Meditation music is music performed to aid in the practice of meditation. It can have a specific religious content, but also more recently has been associated with modern composers who use meditation techniques in their process of composition, or who compose such music with no particular religious group as a focus.

1. Be Grateful
Gratitude is a very powerful feeling and allows you to humble yourself for a moment. It reminds you of all the positive things you have in your life, whether it is relationships, your experiences, possessions or your passions. Try the following to bring more gratitude into your life:
a) Think of a time when life was good to you, which made you feel incredibly thankful to be alive.
b) Think of a time when life challenged you – What did you learn as a result of this experience?
c) Think of a time in your life when you needed somebody the most and they were there for you.
Even when we experience harsh lessons in life, the act of gratitude helps to ease the pain and be thankful for the present moment.
2. Be Confident
Confidence will get you far in life – from the way you converse with people, to the way you walk down the street. When you feel confident, others see your confident energy. Some techniques you can use are a follows:
a) Stand up straight
b) Recognize your strengths and abilities
c) Keep eye-contact with people
Use convincing statements such as ” I am good enough and I always will be ” rather than “If things work out for me hopefully I will feel better”. Trust yourself!
And don’t forget – Accept compliments gracefully!
3. Raise Your Self-Esteem
Self-esteem is all about knowing and believing in your self-worth. If you think you do not have any self-worth then it is a good idea to start listing all your strengths and abilities as identified in the previous tip, Be Confident.
Stop comparing yourself to others! There will always be people that have more than you or better than you. Instead of feeling bad, feel inspired by them. Make goals towards achieving the things you really want in life (see tip 10. Set Goals) and stop feeling negative because you do not have what you want.
And please please please stop putting yourself down! Now this is a big one – When you put yourself down you are affirming to yourself that you are not good enough. Your brain is very clever and when used in the wrong way, can convince you of the most absurd things. Nobody in the entire world is not good enough. Everybody is good at something! Go back to tip 1: Be Grateful, and realize the world is always on your side, you just have to sit back for a moment to see it.
4. Track Your Thoughts
Tracking your thoughts goes hand-in-hand with the previous tip 3. Raise Your Self-Esteem. This is because, over the course of our lives we have trained our brains to believe in many negative thoughts. So-much-so, these thoughts become incredibly unconscious to us that it then becomes difficult to track them.
If you become anxious often, ask yourself the following questions:
i) What was I thinking directly before feeling anxious?
ii) Is it a negative thought/belief about myself?
iii) Am I judging or comparing myself to others?
iv) Do I often feel lousy in the day when it started off great? Back track your thoughts.
Remember, negative thinking can always be changed. You can easily keep track of your thoughts every time you feel bad about yourself, just think of the last thought you had. When we worry, it tends to stem from a negative thought, so keep track of that. With enough practice you will become proficient in tracking your thoughts and wiping out all negative patterns.
5. Be Mindful
Being mindful allows you to be more focused, it stops your brain from wondering off every two seconds. With enough practice you will have more clarity, be less distracted and even start breathing better. Try the following:
a) How does it feel where you are right this second? Are you comfortable? If so, why are you comfortable? Is it because of the chair you are sitting in, or the temperature of the room?
b) The next time you are in the shower think about how the water feels on your body. Do you feel relaxed or anxious? Why do you feel the way you do?
c) Meditate – Concentrate on nothing but your breathing for a full five minutes and see how you feel (set a timer). It can be difficult at first but the key is to practice. You will notice that you will become less distracted and more focused. The key is to practice this technique over and over.
6. Realize The Grass Is Never Greener
Being preoccupied with the search for another life, a different life, or perhaps a better life alludes us into believing that our life is not really worth living. When in fact, there is at least one person in the world that would love to live it.
Accept reality. Face it. Deal with it. Problems come and go. If you have a persistent problem in your life then its time to start asking yourself:
a) What is making me so unhappy about this situation?
b) What have I done so far to rectify this problem?
c) What can I learn from this problem?
Never be envious of others. Envy is being resentful of others and affirming you are inferior. Be inspired. Look for ways to develop your life, improve it and grow – trust me, you will feel much better along the way.
7. Be You
He happy being you! There is nobody else in the whole wide world that comes close to you. Each of us is unique. We all possess different qualities that make us stand out. What is yours?
a) Do you have great style?
b) Are you a good cook?
c) Are you an optimist?
Go back to tip 1. Be Grateful, and look at what you have in your life already that makes you happy. Appreciate everything you have on your list.
Love yourself.
Feel good about your body – Eat healthy.
Smile Smile Smile – Let those endorphins soar!
Create some style in your life – Be it in the wardrobe department or your home (Try something new).
8. Heal Your Past
You are where you are, never try to heal from something too quickly. Many of us have stored emotions and past traumas that can take time to heal. It takes a lot of courage to walk down memory lane and there will be a lot of tears along the way. Just remember that crying is a very healthy way of releasing stored emotions.
If you can, see a counselor. If not then there are many books you can read that can give you a better understanding of your situation. Please also try the following:
a) Commit to yourself that you no longer wish to be emotionally affected by your past.
b) Write down in detail the incident that happened.
c) Allow yourself to cry if you need to – Write down any trigger words that make you more emotional.
Try to look at the reality of the situation rather than just your perspective e.g. If you were beaten as a child, then whatever compelled your caregiver to beat you was their own level of frustration and lack of control rather than you being a bad child.
What good did you learn as a result of this experience? Are you more compassionate? Do you have the ability to spot a child going through abuse? Do you have to ability to respect others and yourself?
At first it may be difficult healing your past, but once you get over the hurdle you will gain compassion for yourself, a deep wisdom and the gift to help others.
9. Discover Yourself
Awareness is the key to self-discovery. Find out why you are the way you are. Understand who you are as a person. This will give you the freedom to change what you do not like and the opportunity to create the life you want. Try the following:
a) Do not judge yourself – This is a hard one to overcome but boy will you feel better about yourself!
b) Be honest with yourself – This will lead to true awareness. What are your deepest fears?
c) Have you ever felt ashamed of something? If so why?
d) Have you ever been dishonest? Why? (remember do not judge yourself) What was the reality of your situation?
e) What type of people do you like to spend your time with? Why?
f) Are you happy in your current relationship? Who is your ideal partner? Why?
10. Set Goals
If you want to start creating the life you really want, then goal-setting is your ‘life plan’ for the future.
All successful business executives and athletes set goals. It provides motivation and it organizes time and resources so that you can make the most out of life.
a) Start by setting life-time goals – Be it Financial, Career, Education, Family, Exercise.
Then set smaller goals – Start with a Five-year plan, then a One-year plan, then a Six-month plan, until eventually you create a One-month plan.
b) Ensure they are SMART – Specific (significant), Measurable (meaningful), Attainable (action-oriented), Relevant (rewarding), Timed (trackable).
c) Stay the course – Review your goals on a monthly basis and check off anything that is completed. Modify your goals to reflect your changing priorities.
11. Allow Yourself To Dream – Dream Big!
Dreaming big is not about walking with your head in the clouds, it is about having a passion and making it your purpose to achieve it. Get into the habit of dreaming big, because it will adjust and maneuver your mind-set to get you on the right track.
A few reasons why it is good to dream:
a) It will make you feel good.
b) You will connect to your inner-self.
c) They will eventually come true.
d) You will set higher standards for yourself – This is good for personal growth.
e) You will achieve more.
12. Get A Hobby
Sometimes coming home from work, having dinner then watching a little bit of TV can get really boring. We need to nurture the soul. We need something that brings a sense of inner-fulfillment. And remember, TV is not a hobby, please see tip 14. Stop Watching TV.
Try some of the following:
a) Learn a new skill – Maybe a musical instrument or knitting.
b) Start a blog about something you are passionate about.
c) Get in touch with nature – Take long walks or take up gardening.
d) Create a sports team
13. Make Yourself Happy First
As selfish as this may sound, it is quite the opposite. If you are happy within yourself, others will feed off your happiness. People feel good being around people that feel good about themselves.
a) Don’t sacrifice too much for somebody else – If you have passions in life then it is your God-given right to fulfill them.
b) Don’t give what you do not have – Be it Love or Financial.
c) Put on your oxygen mask first – There is a reason for this.
d) Only give to charity if it feels good in your heart.
14. Stop Watching TV!
TV is bad for you! You heard it here first.
Seriously folks, try to limit TV to the most minimal possible. And try not to watch TV right before bed time, especially thrillers, horrors or action movies. You will find that your subconscious will stay in a disturbed dream sequence all night if you watch any of these type of movies or TV shows.
Watching TV puts you in Alpha state – This state is crucial for optimized learning, so you do not want to learn anything negative. You also switch off your creative brain. When you read or converse with people or play sports, your brain uses its imagination. It cannot use its imagination when watching TV, you are watching somebody else’s imagination. Therefore the creative part of your brain shuts down.
By cutting out TV you will find that:
a) You will have more time for hobbies and recreational activities.
b) You will read more – Online or offline.
c) You will socialize more.
d) You will start thinking more positively – Because there is a lot of negativity on TV.
e) You will become more selective of what you do watch going forward.
15. Always Be Optimistic
You have nothing to lose by being optimistic. Remember the glass is always half-full!
Being an optimist allows you to be grateful for what you have and to expect the best. And, if and when things become a little difficult then they are easily forgotten when you overcome them.
Remember:
a) The world is always on your side – If you believe the world is on your side then you are correct, if you believe the world is against you then you are correct.
b) The past does not equal the future – The past is just a story, the future is yet to be created.
Change negative beliefs into positive ones – Life is too short to think negatively.
Prepare for the best, hope for the best – Expect your life to be great and it will.
