The buddha sits on a Lotus throne taken from THE Altar of Heaven and Earthly Mount of the Temple Of Heaven which resides in Tian Tan In Beijing, China. The buddha was built with 202 separate pieces of bronze plus a large metal frame supports the inside to help support in bad windy conditions, because the weight of the statue is 250 tons, the height is 34M (110ft). They are offering flowers, incense, lamp, ointment, fruit and music. The offerings are given to the buddha to represent, charity, morality, patience, zeal, meditation and wisdom of which all is needed before entering NIRVANA which is of course within the Buddhist religion.

The buddha has his right hand raised which represents the meaning “The removal of affliction”, his left hand is on his lap to represent “giving” (dhana).

Climbing the 268 steps to reach the buddha you will first notice that the views are outstanding, Within the buddha there are three floors of exhibitions these floors are named, The Hall Of The Universe, The Hall Of Benevolent and The Hall Of Remembrance which you must visit to see objects, relics of bygone age. The main show room supports a bell which was rung every seven minutes, 108 times per day to symbolize the release of 108 kinds of human vexations.

Near by is the large PO PLIN MONASTERY one of the most visited tourist attraction on Lantau island with there tea gardens, vegetarian restaurants, gardens and of course the wonder of the monastery its self. Locally to the monastery is the Ngong Ping cable car which goes from Ngong Ping to Tung Chung.

Improvement to one individual may mean being able to eat every day of the week instead of on only 5.

However, ask your self do you want to make positive changes to your life? Starting the day with bad news does not seem to be a sensible thing to do. Starting the day to make the lasting changes that will make each day a more positive, and productive one.

Personally, I keep myself motivated and up beat everyday by watching or listening to at least one motivational and positive individual.

Step 1: Motivation can come from internal or external sources but it is important to cultivate the internal sources because that means that it’s coming from within the person himself. Motivation is a tool and like any tool, it’s learning how to use it properly that will make it useful to you. Motivation gives you that inner drive to accomplish what you want so take the first step today and never look back.

OK let me tell you a little story when I was a young man I wanted to be rapper (MC) so I started calling My self Stress. To me I thought it was a good thing but I was wrong! At that time the positive individual in my life. Was my mom she use to tell me all the time words have power but being a adolescent it just went in one ear and out the other. It was when I got older the words of my mom begun to hunt me I started to see my life falling into a pit of depression and darkness. I lost control of my emotions it when I begin to open my mind to those motivational words” words have power”. It was then I took my first steps to positive changes to my life and that inner drive to accomplish Personal Goals took root. Let’s get into step2:

Step 2: Power of Positive Thinking: Being able to tune into positive thinking means that your thoughts and beliefs can rule your actions and it means that you can sometimes be stronger than your abilities. Now let’s look back to my story in order to make positive changes I had to think positive and that means telling myself “words have power” every day.

Step 3: Personal Goal Setting: Goal setting can offer many rewards including allowing people to focus on their objectives, to accomplish certain goals, and to organize their priorities and activities.

Step 4: Stress Management Techniques: Making decisions, facing deadlines, working long hours, and being forced to produce unrealistic results are only some of the causes for the incredible amount of stress in people’s lives. Stress sensors induce what is commonly called a stress response in us, that is psychological, physiological, and/or behavioral reactions to stress sensors Stress is a state of physical, mental or emotional strain that occurs in response to real or perceived events, which occur in our everyday lives.

Try meditation for inner peace and for relaxation of mind and body, with beautiful nature scenes, soothing music and affirmations. By meditating that can help Control Your Emotions stay up beat walk around with smile your happiness should not depend on events occurring as we want because they never will. Happiness is actually found in everyone, increasing it is a way to make a life more wonderful and also healthier. When we hear the word “New Age”, what is the first thing that pops into our minds? Probably a new form of thinking, where ideas are welcomed and change is encouraged. It is probably a period in history, something in the likes of the “Pre-historic age” or the “Medieval Age”. It is probably happening right now, the 21st century where life is modern and “New Age” refers to everything that is currently happening.

As a matter of fact, the “New Age movement” is something that has been happening for quite some time and is not really new. There are a lot of different branches of the “New Age movement”, which includes New Age art, New Age music, New Age Spirituality and so on. So what exactly is “New Age” and how does it affect our lives today?

What does “New Age” mean?

If you do a simple search in Google, you would probably come up with a million different and confusing search results that will take you to a lot of different sites that are religious in nature. There is nothing confusing about this, because the term “New Age” is actually coined to describe a spiritual movement for the modern world. In a nutshell, the New Age movement’s main aim is to be a boundless and borderless spiritual movement that combines the Western and Eastern culture to create the perfect and holistic approach when it comes to spirituality. It is the movement which combines all of the theories of the past 2000+ years and rejects all of the unnecessary and unrealistic baggage that plagues most common religions and ways of thinking. The New Age movement believes in the importance of a perfect balance between the three main components of humanity: Body, Mind and Spirit.

The Body is the shell or the basic physical manifestation of the human being, and it is the main toll that we use to interact with the physical world;
The Mind is the non-physical or the subconscious aspect of the human being, and it is the tool that we use in order for us to create and imagine the things we need that can manifest itself in the physical world;
The Spirit is the metaphysical, and it basically deals with the “being” of the human existence.

If during more primitive times, religion or spirituality cannot live side-by-side with science, the New Age movement actually claims that human beings live for the Body, Mind and Spirit. Perfect balance should be created between the three fundamental aspects of the human so that we can continually grow in understanding and wisdom. As you can imagine, this brings a whole new perspective to the way a lot of people do things, especially the way they think. This New Age Movement actually started a revolution in a lot of things, including modern art and contemporary art, music, religion and spirituality, politics, social behaviors and life in general. Most of things that we thought couldn’t go together is completely meshed together by the New Age movement, and these are the two things that stood in complete disagreement over the millennia: science and religion.

A brief history of the New Age Movement and its impact

The New Age Movement actually started in the 20th century, when a lot of scientists and religious individuals started to question why their two fields seem to repel each other. A lot of these individuals are devout and religious men and women who began questioning the mysteries of religion and why they seem to conflict greatly with the facts of science. This brought out the idea that Science and Religion could, in fact live harmoniously together and the meshing of the two gave the world a new insight to the way we see life in general. It is no surprise then that a lot of movements were born out of the New Age way of thinking:

New age art. When you say art, you generally think about art galleries, art and photos, and a fine art gallery. The fact is, art is a rather general term, which includes music and literature as well. The New Age art movement is basically the art which transcends the physical, mental and spiritual boundaries of man. It deals with the higher awareness of a human to his own existence which leads to better understanding and wisdom.

New Age Spirituality. In terms of spiritual impact, New Age is more concentrated on the human being in general and our relationship to the universe. It combines a lot of the aspects of different religions, including: atheism, monotheism, pantheism and polytheism. All of these religions, combined with science, is the basis of the New Age spiritual movement. It draws inspiration from all of the popular religions throughout the ages and uses the most useful and practical practices of the said religious movements

New Age Lifestyle. Basically, the New Age Lifestyle follows one simple rule: create a sustainable environment through simple living standards that will help ease the burden and the depletion of our Earth’s natural resources

A whole new meaning to New Age art

New Age art is a revolution in art movement that is exactly what the New Age represents: free-flowing and without boundaries. It is much more than getting your art and photos in a fine art gallery, but more of crating art so that it increases awareness of the human to his own glory and existence. New Age art is so much more than contemporary art, abstract art or even modern art, because it basically deals with the combination of the body, mind and spirit to create awareness and to transcend the boundaries that limit us to our very own existence. It is in these reasons why New Age seems a little bit of a mixture of contemporary and abstract styles, and New Age music seems to be a bit more about relaxation, inspiration and meditation; New Age art is further continuing the job to promote spirituality and awareness and it transcends all manner of ethical and spiritual backgrounds.

The continuing role of the New Age artists in the modern age

New Age art artists are spiritual in nature. They tend to create their art forms in a way that promotes spirituality and one’s relationship to his self. It is therefore important that a new age artist be completely aware and is educated in the means of meditation, relaxation, and creating the perfect balance of the body, mind and spirit so that it shows in his or her art, whether it be in the form of art and photos or music.

Gratitude is in the air these days, more and more, as a spiritual practice to uplevel and uplift your life. Authors such as Deepak Chopra, Edwene Gaines, Neale Donald Walsch, Diane Harmony and many more extol the power of gratitude. After all, one cannot be depressed or angry while in a state of appreciation. A main way to practice gratitude is to write 5-10 things per day, small or big, that you are grateful for, in a Gratitude Journal. However, this article takes the idea of being grateful even farther, and suggests other ways to implement the transformative practice of gratefulness into your life. Pick and choose what works for you!

1. Blessing Others

It can be very beneficial to simply send love and gratitude to other people in your life. This practice takes the focus away from yourself if you tend to be self-centered. Think of 5 people per day that you wish to send love and blessings to. Since we are all inter-connected, they will feel your silent message to them and be subconsciously uplifted.

2. Spiritual Time-outs, 5 times per day

Stop work or whatever task you are involved in during your routine day and give yourself a moment of gratitude and appreciation. You can even bring to mind something you wrote down in your Gratitude Journal, or come up with something brand new. This will shift your day and is particularly good if something stressful has come up beforehand. Try it 5x a day for several weeks, and reap the results of more peace of mind.

3. Morning Spiritual Time

Start by taking at least 5 minutes each morning, perhaps reading a daily spiritual guide, or some pages of a positive spiritual or self-help book you are interested in. If you feel comfortable, spend a few minutes meditating by getting comfortable and closing your eyes and just being still. This also might be a time to write your thoughts of thanksgiving in your journal. Pray if it feels right to you. You will be amazed at how this morning centering will start your day so much better. Add more time each day as you feel guided to.

4. Evening Spiritual Time

Devote at least 5 minutes each night before you go to bed, contemplating your day, and thinking of things you are grateful for that happened. There is always something to remember that was a blessing to you. You will find you sleep better and more restfully as you continue this new practice in your life.

5. Blessing Everything That Happens

It can be a challenge to embrace everything that happens, especially the seemingly “bad” in your life. But it can be a wonderful spiritual practice to realize that every single thing that happens to you, is an opportunity for you to grow as a spiritual being having a human experience. It can be tough, but if something upsetting happens, think about it and turn it around in your mind, to find the positive. For instance, if you get a flu bug and are sick as a dog, perhaps you really needed some down time and rest from the grind of day-to-day living. It is liberating to find the blessing in an unhappy event in your life!

6. Nurture Yourself

Do things that show you really love yourself. Be in joy and have fun more often! Here are some ideas to pick and choose from, depending upon what YOU most like.

– Take a bubble bath in candlelight
– Make a sacred altar on your dresser or table with treasured keepsakes
– Spend 20 minutes in nature
– Play with a child or pet
– Instead of being so darn busy all the time, stop and do absolutely nothing!
– Listen to music that soothes your soul
– Go to the beach and walk barefoot in the sand
– Think of your own ways to pamper yourself

7. Make Positive Affirmations of Gratitude

Find a thought of gratitude that feels right for something that is not as natural to you as it could be. For instance, “I am grateful for the abundance in my life” if you feel poor. You can expand on your affirmation of gratitude, using the present tense and words that resonate with you. Perhaps “I am in deep appreciation for the absolute abundance that pours forth in my life in every way.” Then, put your affirmation in places that you go to all the time, such as on the bathroom mirror, on the dashboard of your car, maybe use it as a screensaver on your computer, etc. As you keep affirming and believing this gratitude affirmation, it will come to fruition in your life.

These seven steps will definitely enhance your life in delightful ways! Give them a try and you will find out.

It can be really humiliating when people find out that you talk; mumble or mutter in your sleep. Somniloquy or sleep talking is a condition mainly caused by stress; insufficient sleep; fevers and anxiety. In some cases people might become really annoyed by it and you might even distance your friends. It is for this reason that I am going to share with you the proven ways of how to stop sleep talking.

Ensure that you maintain a proper sleeping routine that affords you enough hours of rest. If you sleep eight hours a day then increase it to maybe ten hours a day, a shift that will give you more rest and reduce the pressure on you to rise early or sleep less. If conditions like this persist your stress levels will go down gradually y and you won’t have to worry about the anxiety that can trigger your somniloquy.

Try not to eat heavy meals before going to bed. Being too full can give you indigestion that will disturb your sleep and eventually disrupt your sleeping patterns. Eat a quarter less than usual or space out your meals to make them smaller and more satisfying. With this done you can move to the next tip.

In addition to that you must watch your stress levels closely and keep your anxiety at bay. This can be achieved through holding positive images in your mind and practicing yoga and meditation. This routine will bring more peace to your life and make your evenings more relaxed than before. The breathing therapy at yoga classes make you calmer and more comfortable during sleep. What’s more meditation classes will be an added bonus if you can squeeze them into your therapy.

More than likely disturbances to your sleep have to be dealt with. This includes horror movies with horrific images and violent pictures that can remain stuck in your head to the point of upsetting your sleep. Soft music blends in well with the other tips included here and it has a good calming effect.

Sleep talking is not the end of the world, you can get over it if you’re dedicated. Give yourself time and you’ll be fine.

Nothing is more frustrating than a weight loss plateau. If it seems like the needle on your scale is stuck, ask yourself these six questions to help break through a weight-loss plateau and restart your weight loss.

1. Are you eating enough?

Sounds crazy, doesn’t it? After all, you have to eat less to lose weight… right? Well, not necessarily. Portion size is definitely a key ingredient in the weight loss recipe, but all too often, people make the mistake of thinking that starving themselves is the way to go.

Going too long without food or not eating enough is one of the worst decisions you can make when you’re trying to lose weight because your body will basically shut down your metabolism. It reacts as if you are in danger of starving and slows down your metabolism in order to conserve energy,

If you want to lose fat, you have to approach eating strategically, and consider how your body processes food. The smartest approach is to eat breakfast as soon as you wake up and then eat a meal or snack every two to three hours until an hour before bed, so that your metabolism never slows down.

2. Are you getting enough sleep?

Sleep plays a larger role than most people realize in the keeping your metabolism functioning well. If you sleep too little (or, to a lesser extent, too much) your metabolism will not burn fat as efficiently. The ideal amount of sleep to ensure your body can burn fat at a high rate is between seven and eight hours a night. If you want to lose weight, make sleep a priority.

3. Are you stressing too much?

Your body has a built-in system to gear itself up to respond to stressful situations that dates back to the days when cavemen were hunting mastodons. When stress arises, your adrenal gland floods your body with a hormone called Cortisol, which preps your body to flee or fight by releasing sugar into your bloodstream and slowing down your metabolism.

If you’ve ever noticed that you crave fatty, salty and sugary foods when you’re stressed, that’s part of the Cortisol effect, too. And even though you’re not being chased by saber tooth tigers, your body responds to modern stresses like rush hour traffic and work deadlines the same way.

Finding ways to deal with stress should be part of your weight-loss plan. Take time for yourself, away from the rat race. Go for a hike or a bike ride. Lie in a hot bath. Get a message. Meditate. Try yoga. Listen to music. Breathe deeply, count to 10 and… relax.

4. Are you eating the right way?

Most diets focus on what you eat and how much you eat, but completely overlook how you eat, and that can make all the difference in how successful you are at losing weight. The problem is that most of us eat in a way that causes blood sugar to spike. When blood sugar levels rise too quickly, your body releases the fat-storing hormone insulin.

In most cases, insulin spikes are caused by eating too many simple carbohydrates and not enough protein and complex carbohydrates.

At the same time, it’s completely unrealistic to expect people to give up simple carbs altogether. I know I wouldn’t want to live without potatoes, pasta, bread and wine. What we advise and show people how to do, is to strive for equal portions of fast carbs, slow carbs and protein. That’s the combination that encourages your body to burn fat instead of store it.

5. Are you drinking enough water?

Water is like motor oil for your body’s engine. Increasing water intake can improve metabolism so your body burns calories and fat more quickly. To get the best weight loss results, drink eight to 12 (8 oz.) glasses of water a day. This has the added benefit of preventing you from drinking beverages like soda and fruit juice, which are metabolism-killing sugar bombs.

6. Are you burning more calories than you’re eating?

When we take in more calories than our bodies can use up, it turns to fat and excess weight. There are two ways to improve your ratio of calories eaten to calories burned: Eat less or exercise more; so increasing your activity level is one surefire way to kick start your metabolism and your weight loss. If you’re not exercising daily, start now.

If you’re already exercising, add another 10 to 15 minutes to your routine, and look for additional ways to burn calories throughout the day such as taking the stairs rather than the elevator. Little steps can add up to big results, so just stick with it, and no matter what, don’t give up on yourself. Persevere and you will get past this.

Headache sufferers can live their lives in frequent misery. While there are many natural cures for headaches that can help in the long run, tools for immediate relief of headaches are a strong need.

Far too many headache sufferers turn to medications to cure their headaches, but in no situation does the medication actually fix what is causing the headache in the first place. Many drugs use to treat headaches merely stop one brain cell from communicating with its neighbor, but do not make the original, problematic brain cell any healthier.

One very common medication used to treat headaches (most often migraine type headaches, although it is not uncommon for a prescription to be written for a tension-type headache as well) is amitriptyline, the most common prescription being Elavil. This class of drugs blocks both the serotonin and norepinephrine uptake in the brain (SNRI). As noted, this pathway has little to do with what actually causes the headaches in the first place, but can stop to progression of the signal from one brain cell to the next.

While there are many natural approaches for headache sufferers to use that can have strong effects on symptom, frequency and duration of the headaches, controlling stress remains one of the most powerful tools.

Acute stress is actually very good for the brain. If you think about it, this makes a lot of sense. If we had a Saber tooth tiger jump out of the underbrush looking to attack us, the last thing we want is for our brain to get all fuzzy and kick off a headache. Instead, acute stress snaps our brain and the way our neurons are firing into attention. Otherwise, as a species, we wouldn’t be here on this planet.

Chronic stress, on the other hand, has a very detrimental role in brain function. Much of it is focused around the hormone cortisol and one of the derivatives of cortisol called tetrahydrodeoxycorticosterone (THDOC). In acute situations this compound has a strongly anti-seizure, anti-migraine effect. However, in the long term with chronic stress, the same compound becomes very pro-seizure and pro-migraine. So, stress is a major trigger of both headaches and seizures. This is most likely due to this particular hormone.

So, it all boils back down to needing to manage our stress with a variety of different tools to keep stress levels under control. Ideally, any stress we experience should be the short term brain protective stress rather than the long term chronic brain damaging stress.

There’s a lot of ways to calm the brain and keep one neuron from inappropriately firing to its unsuspecting neighbor and creating a migraine or a seizure.

One very powerful method to calm the brain that has been around for several thousand years is meditation. It can be as complex as a meditation course or can be as simple as a relaxation CD that you’d buy used at a bookstore for $5. The choice of methods is up to the individual.

A recent study compared the effectiveness of using amitriptyline vs hypnotic relaxation that was done in the neurologist’s office. The results were very encouraging:

1) Over half (58%) chose hypnotic relaxation over the drug approach
2) The patients who used higher levels of analgesics were more likely to choose amitriptyline
3) When given a choice to later switch groups, over 5X the number of patients chose to switch over to hypnosis vs drugs
4) 74% of patients in hypnotic relaxation group had a good response (50% or greater improvement)
5) Only 58% of patients in the amitriptyline group had the same response
6) Long term adherence with hypnotic relaxation was greater than the drug

Meditation has been shown to actually calm the brain. These are based on EEG studies where we see less brain activity during meditation. Realize that there’s no other time that the brain truly quiets down. Even in sleep the brain is very active. It’s only during meditation that we start to see brain waves and brain activity slow down. So, meditation is wonderful for affecting that in a positive way.

Other ways are biofeedback. There is actually a device called the RESPeRATE that’s FDA approved to lower blood pressure and is basically a biofeedback device for breathing. The device is used by putting on headphones and listening to the tones that indicate when to breathe in and when to breathe out. During this time period, you find that your focus is entirely on your breathing. Once that happens, you’re not focusing on anything else, which is essentially a form of meditation that allows the brain to quiet down. In our office we’ve had people who are in the middle of an anxiety attack use the RESPeRATE. In 15 minutes they are a completely relaxed person.

There are other devices similar to the RESPeRATE. One uses visual stimuli where you focus on certain designs with specific music playing in the background, and you find that the focus becomes so intense on what you are hearing and seeing that it gives the brain a chance to rest and not think about everything else that contributes to your stress levels.

We live in a society that stresses us out beyond anything that any society has ever come across before. It’s work, it’s home – these stressors don’t ever seem to go away. Our body deals well with acute stress, but it’s the chronic stress that really starts to break down our brain.

These tools and others can help to calm your brain, but you also need to take a good look at your life and what is stressing you and do whatever it takes to start to remove the stresses or learn to not let them go. Quite frankly, whatever you’re stressing about today, and probably the next 10 things you’re going to stress about tomorrow, really aren’t going to matter. They’re going to happen whether or not you stress about them. However, we seem to stress more about the things that are most out of our control. Does this not seem ridiculous? If they’re out of our control, what’s the point of stressing over them? And, there is no doubt that your stress levels are destroying your brain slowly, piece by agonizing piece.

The room was quiet and peaceful but I wasn’t really there I was in a deep state of meditation and had been for about 30 minutes before I began visualizing my snowboard tricks over and over again in my mind. Meditation had become a new habit and the benefits and serenity were unbelievable but it wasn’t always like this. The first 5 times I sat down to try and meditate I stood back up and walked out of the room almost instantly. For someone who does not practice meditation it is extremely difficult to let yourself just sit there and do nothing but once you experience meditation and the benefits everything becomes crystal clear.

There are many forms of meditation and they all give countless benefits such as an inner sense of peace, improved concentration, increase in health and energy, and many others. Meditation is simply the process of shutting off your conscious mind and internal mental chatter and then quieting your mind and learning to control it. Now if you have read this far you’re probably wondering what the heck this has to do with snowboarding and the answer is everything! When you snowboard you must be able to focus and concentrate.

When you are attempting new or difficult tricks you must have the ability to control your internal dialogue and maintain a confident state of mind. In essence when you snowboard you are meditating. By that I mean when you snowboard you are completely present and absorbed in each moment thinking of nothing except what is happening right now. Once you begin to experience meditation you’ll soon learn how to create a powerful mindset for snowboarding that will have you snowboarding in the zone all day every day. Not to mention the fact you will be able to learn new tricks quickly by visualizing them in a relaxed meditative state.

The following is a simple meditation anyone can do. It is important to realize that meditation is extremely simple and there is no correct way or form. The goal is to quiet your mind and internal chatter that’s it. The more you practice the easier quieting your mind will become and the deeper you’ll go.

Here’s the meditation

1. Find a comfortable place to sit with your back straight and your hands one inside the other or somewhere comfortable on your lap. Soft music or nature sounds may help if you play them quietly in the background.

2. Begin to breathe in and out deeply focusing only on your breath. Put your tongue gently on the roof of your mouth and breathe in and out through your nose evenly. Breathe in through your nose for 7 seconds and exhale through your nose for 7 seconds. Whenever your mind starts to wonder bring your focus back to your breathing.

3. Sit quietly and continue breathing for 5-10 minutes that’s it! Once you can do this for 5 minutes go for 10 minutes then 20 minutes and so on. The more you practice the more you will understand meditation, go into deeper states of meditation and experience the benefits.

You will begin to create meditation as a daily habit if you practice for 7 days straight because you will notice the benefits in your daily life. You will think clearer, be more focused, make better choices, and eliminate the stressed out scatter brain we all have at times. It is not necessary to meditate an hour every day to see benefits although the more the better.

Use your relaxed state of mind in meditation to begin programming snowboard tricks into your mind and body by visualizing all your snowboard tricks in perfect detail “Seeing and feeling” what it’s like to land them in perfect detail. I challenge anybody reading this to meditate for 5-10 minutes everyday for the next 5 days. Then visualize your tricks for 5-15 minutes for the next week and see what happens. I promise you’ll see the difference in your snowboarding and thought processes in general.

“Meditation brings wisdom, lack of meditation leaves ignorance. Know well that leads you forward and what hold you back, and choose the path that leads to wisdom.”

Second Noble Truth: (The origin of suffering)

“It is craving which gives rise to further rebirth and, bound up with pleasure and lust, finds ever fresh delight, now here, now there – to wit, the sensual craving, the craving for existence, and the craving for non-existence.

“And where, monks, does this craving, when arising, arise and, when settling, settle? Whatever in the world is a delightful thing, a pleasurable thing, therein this craving, when arising, arises and, when settling, settles.”

Craving can involve material things, people, new experiences, good things to eat, nice music, comfort, entertainments, security, knowledge, power, praise, fame, health . . . and the list goes on! We can crave for eternal existence physically or spiritually, or for this life to end in annihilation, with nothing continuing.

Craving or wanting is accompanied by restlessness, boredom, agitation, ambition, constantly chasing after things, people, or ideals; never being satisfied, being driven by wants and desires, not being able to remain at ease or live peacefully and naturally. Craving and wanting is by nature lustful, ravenous, grasping, and one feels the overpowering need to acquire things, companions, knowledge, and experiences, attempting to fill the empty spot withinthem that is not fillable, and gets emptier as the years go by.

Interestingly enough, it’s not the actual desire for things that cause our problems; it’s the idea that there is a “self” behind the desires. We create in our minds untold scenarios of this self, making its way through time and the world. When we see food, it’s not a simple thing of saying, “Oh, I’m hungry!” It’s more of a fear that we may not get enough, or that we are eating the wrong things – that we will become unhealthy because of the food, or that we are eating too much, and on and on. Instead of eating out of need and stopping when we are full, we eat psychologically because this self that we have created in our minds has become an obsession. Our entire existence has become one of protecting not only the body, but the mind as well, and this involves detailed psychological maneuvering to keep our egos afloat.

At the root of the Noble Truths is the primary desire, which is the continuation of our self now and afterdeath. Our “I” thought, which is a construction of thought by our minds, dominates everything. There is not just simple craving, it is “I” who craves, and that puts a different spin on everything. It all becomes so desperately personal.

The self will generally crave three important things. One is pleasure that can be experienced through the senses such as the taste of luscious foods, our favorite music, wonderful, awe-inspiring sights, delicious smells, exquisite touches and embraces, and endless thoughts, memories and daydreams. Another is to become something, such as; more famous, richer, happier, more spiritual, eternal. And the self finally wants to get rid of whatever it deems troublesome; such as disease, worry, stress, a spouse, the neighbor’s dog, a bad job, bad luck, etc.

When we desire something, let’s say a Porsche, it begins with seeing it and innocently thinking, “Wow, that is a cool car.” Which changes into, “Why can’t I have one of those, I deserve it, and it will make me feel good!” Following that, we grasp at the idea of owning one and it becomes compulsive. This could lead to mortgaging the house, getting a second and third job, maybe even stealing one! All kinds of difficulties arise, just to satisfy a desire. Then, if we are fortunate, or unfortunate, enough to obtain one, we can’t park it anywhere for fear it will be stolen! So we become its prisoner in many ways, all because “I” deserve a porsche.

God communicates to His people in His compassionate ways and language that may be understood and revealed through time. The ongoing dialogue between God and His people builds a relationship of friendship and Lordship. It is significant to keep the communication lines open. People respond and communicate to God in many ways.

• People pray

The most common way people talk to God is through prayers. People oftentimes express lamentations, grief, joy, thanksgiving, petition and more through prayers. People express prayers through personal dialogue with God, sacraments, formulated prayers and journals.

• People listen to God

One of the most difficult ways to communicate to God is to listen to Him. Creating the pattern of listening to His Will takes a lot of effort and discipline. Most especially, it takes the grace of God to be brought to His Mighty Presence and listen to His messages. Some people listen through meditation. Other people listen through pilgrimages. Other people observe silence and go on retreats.

• People sing songs

People use the language of music to communicate to God. The highest purpose of music is to extol and give thanks to God for all His wonders. Music bestows the gift of worshiping God for all the things He has done through His creation.

• People pray for others

Praying for others is one of the ways to communicate to God. Most people believe that praying for others is an expression of self-sacrifice. Praying for others is offering the needs of others over and above one’s own need. If people pray for others, the community of God is strengthened.

The various ways people express themselves to God are the responses to the initiative to build a relationship. The relationship of friendship and Lordship is forever extended to people by God through His Son, the Crucified and Glorified Jesus through the Holy Spirit.

People communicate to God in different ways. These methods may come in prayer, silence, meditation, self-sacrifice and music. People respond to God in these various ways.

Yes, people only respond to God because God initiates the communication. God always reaches out to His people in a compassionate language that may be understood by man in time, through time. How does God talk to People?

• Bible

The Bible may be a book and a great form of art and literature from the perspective of human rationality. Given the presence of faith, the Bible is a dynamic media of God’s message to His people.

• Sacraments

The sacraments are ways of God engaging in a dialogue with man. The message conveyed through the sacraments may include forgiveness, blessings, healing, commissioning, vocation, commitment and more. Each of the seven sacraments has each own message and mystery to tell.

• Relationships

The relationships that people have with families, friends, acquaintances, foes and all the other supernumerary characters in life are the manifestations of God’s communication with His people. Each of these relationships make one grow in love, life and spirit even if people do not recognize such effects.

• Creation

The wonders of creation are also one of the ways God talk to His people. The earth as it whispers its secrets talk of Gods compassion and love. As people are awed with the magnificence of creation, the message is revealed about the greatness of God.

• Mysterious Events

There are also mysterious events that cannot be fathomed and explained by words. However, faith experience tells that these mysterious and incomprehensible events are only possible through God’s intervention.

• The Crucified and Glorified Jesus

The highest language and form of communication God has revealed to mankind is His Son, the Crucified and Glorified Jesus. Through the Holy Spirit, what His Son has revealed in His historical life, has continued to be revealed up to this date.

Are we listening or not? Are we responding or not? Even in the depths of our being, our silence may be an answer, lest we will be isolated from the One who truly loves us.
