1. TALK TO HIM. Your baby loves to hear your voice(and Dad’s too!) while he’s still in the womb. Studies show that, as soon as he is born, a baby recognizes the sound of his Mum’s voice and this helps to calm him. Hers is the voice he will turn to. Talk to your baby as if he’s there. Say good morning when you wake up, goodnight at bedtime and during the day, speak to him about what you’re doing, how you’re feeling, what you plan to do and so on.

2. EAT CHOCOLATE! A study of more than 300 pregnant women by University of Helsinki researchers found that babies of mums who eat a bit of chocolate every day during their 40-week pregnancy laughed and smiled more than babies whose mothers didn’t have the delectable treat. Not that we need an excuse!

3. SWIM. Gentle swimming is the perfect exercise that helps optimal blood flow to the fetus, and when your body feels that weightlessness in the water, baby enjoys somersaults in her amniotic environment too.

4. GRAB SOME GARLIC. Garlic reduces the likelihood of getting preeclampsia, a risky condition in pregnancy marked by high blood pressure, swelling and protein in the urine.

5. FEEL THE BABY. Rest your hands on your belly and gently massage your bump. Research shows that even while still in the womb, babies can see, hear, feel, remember and think, says Dr Carista Luminare-Rosen, author of Parenting Begins Before Conception: A Guide to Preparing Body, Mind, and Spirit for You and Your Future Child.

6. EAT FISH. Fish is a rich source of important nutrients for baby’s growth such s vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA which support the development of baby’s brain and eyes.

7. DO DEEP BREATHING EXERCISES. When you practice deep breathing techniques, baby gets plenty of oxygen. Not to mention the sense of relaxation that this gives you.

8. BUY FLOWERS. Flowers make your environment beautiful and smell good, naturally. Flowers are a better alternative to scented candles and air fresheners, which may contain harmful chemicals.

9. MEDITATE. Any kind of quiet reflective time will, among other benefits, ease your anxiety, improve immunity, and elevate your mood, which will buoy up baby’s mood too.

10. WATCH A COMEDY. Laughter takes away any worries or anxiety you may be feeling. And research shows that when you find something funny, your baby does too. In fact, if you’re having an ultrasound and start to laugh, your baby may start bouncing up and down. Laugh harder and you’ll see your foetus bounce even more!

11. EAT A SPINACH OMELETTE. The choline in eggs is central to developing your baby’s memory and learning capabilities. Spinach is rich in folic acid, vitamins A B6 and C, calcium, iron, magnesium and potassium.

12. GET A HUG! A 20-second hug will reduce stress and boost the feel-good hormone oxytocin, which is also the “maternal” hormone. If you feel good, your baby who is directly affected by your emotions, will feel good too.

13. GET A PLANT. Indoor plant absorb hidden chemicals from your home, including those from household cleaners and paint.

14. LISTEN TO CLASSICAL MUSIC. Although the Mozart Effect- the theory that listening to Mozart will give you a smarter baby – is no longer widely accepted now, it is true that classical music will soothe your baby as early as at five months into your pregnancy. This applies especially to the slower Baroque-type compositions by Vivalde and Mozart. Such rhythms match Mum’s heartbeat, and will soothe baby.

15. TAKE A WALK. All types of exercise help to rev up your baby’s brain and tissues. The motion of walking goes a little further. The rocking and rhythm provide a feeling of security too.

16. READ A STORY. Research has found that baby will remember stories that he hears over and over again while still in the womb. After baby leaves the womb, these stories will help calm her.

17. GET HUBBY TO SING. In the final trimester, baby will recognise Daddy’s voice too. Get him to sing regularly to baby so that when baby is born, Daddy can belt out his signature tunes to soothe her to sleep.

18. TAKE A NAP. Pregnancy can be exhausting, from the first trimester, where your body is supporting the developing foetus, to the third trimester, where you’ll get tired moving around with an almost full-term baby inside you. A nap will boost energy and give your baby an excellent start.

19. DRINK A BANANA SMOOTHIE. Bananas boost your energy the low-cal way. They’re full of calming potassium which combines with the calcium in milk to boost baby’s growth.

20. GET A MASSAGE. Ask your doctor when is a good time – he may suggest waiting after the first trimester. Not only will you feel rejuvenated, oxytocin released during a massage will give your baby a great day too.

The above 20 ways may not be suitable for every expecting mothers. For some food, please consult your doctor whether they are suitable to both you and your unborn baby. For some physical activities, please also consult your doctor when is a good time to exercise. For others, please know whether you are allergic to the things mentioned above. So far, most of the ways have been tried by parents-to-be who have found them useful.

Sensuality and passion between couples becomes heightened when they share in fun and enjoyable things together. We’re always learning, growing and noticing new things about the person we married. They change and they grow and as we share stimulating and interesting times with our spouse so does our perception of them change in a way we didn’t think possible. And this is why we shouldn’t let our marriage become dreary and mundane but always seek out fun and challenging things to share together.

1. Try to remember what you liked about your spouse from when you were first married. What did you do to woo your husband/wife? Do it again! Sometimes, especially if we have been married for a while we tend to take each other for granted and forget about how much we love the person we married.

It’s true, we do change as we experience life and as we get older but were not different people. Hopefully we are smarter, more experienced, happier, and more fun loving as we age. Did you know that couples who grow spiritually and mentally together instead of apart have better marriages? It’s true!

2. Don’t feel intimidated to try something different from your usual routine. Couples can literally get so caught up in their daily routines that they miss out on the special opportunities to add a little pack of spunk into their marriage. This is also true in the lovemaking department. Try different techniques and different positions. There is no need to be shy with your spouse, more than likely, they too would like to try something different out of the ordinary.

Try your expertise at bowling, roller-skating, or ice-skating, see a movie, or walk in the mall. Anything! Sharing time together doing things you normally wouldn’t do brings excitement and fun back into a mundane relationship while bringing you closer together.

If you like a challenge, or you’re a thrill seeker, try skydiving, bungee jumping or for the more conscience at heart and a bit safer, how about a roller coaster ride. But by all means do these thrilling things together.

3. Take the weekend off and go somewhere romantic. Snow anyone? You don’t necessarily need to know how to ski to enjoy the amenities and beauty of a ski lodge. Lounge in the Jacuzzi, go sledding, take long walks outdoors, or sit by the fire talking about anything and everything. But leave work and home life out of the conversation.

Take a trip to a lake in your area and stay overnight in a cabin. Go fishing, swimming, hiking, backpacking with your husband and eat by the campfire. Sleep in a tent and roast marshmallows.

4. Take a three-day spiritual/meditation retreat together. This will do wonders for the body, mind and soul. It will give you the relaxation you need to refresh your whole outlook on life and rejuvenate your marriage too.

5. Write down all the things you love about your husband/wife and share your thoughts with each other. Sometimes we forget to tell our spouse how much we love them or why we love them, but we all need to hear those words once in awhile. It’s that bit of reassurance that brings music to our ears as it reminds us how blessed we really are to have married the person we did. Let’s not forget about all those little things we love about our husband/wife. Let’s tell them today!

6. Make up your own coupon booklet on the computer and give it to your husband/wife. In the coupon booklet for an example a coupon might read, “This coupon good for a 1/2 hour back rub.” The next coupon might read, “Coupon good for 20 minute foot massage.” The next coupon might say, “Good for one night out at your favorite restaurant”. Coupon booklets are great because we can customize them to our needs and wants too.

In this article I am going to share my experience of using, for the first time, a particular meditation aid. I have written about the benefits of using these aids. I have written articles stating that “yes, they do work!”. I have also written about who should and should not use them. But to date I have never written about my own personal experiences of using them. I aim to remedy that situation now. For this particular experiment I used a purchased Binaural Beat from one of my favorite Binaural Beat makers. This article takes you through my experience using this particular track for the first time.

I set everything up earlier in the evening so I didn’t have to bother running around getting all my bits and pieces together. They were all placed neatly and to hand, by the side of my bed. The children were all settled nice and snug in their beds. This is MY time. On go the headphones. I switch on my mp3 player. I adjust the volume to the desired level and off I go.

I concentrate on my breathing whilst letting the music and Binaural Beats flow over me. I focus on my head, letting the pillow take all the weight – relaxing. I move to my neck and shoulders, physically feeling them relax and my shoulders drop. Concentrating on my stomach moving with each breath. I slightly tense the muscles in my arms, one at a time and feel them relax, as I relax. I tense the muscles in my bottom then relax. My thighs are made tense then relaxed. Then it is the turn of my calf muscles. Finally I stretch my toes, one foot at a time, pointing them towards the bottom of my bed and then relaxing. You cannot start any meditation without relaxing the muscles in your body and the only way I can make sure they are relaxed is to tense them first. Keeping aware of your breathing all the time.

Usually by the time I have finished this tense/relax system any thoughts that had been flying round my head have pretty much stopped. However, if they are still interrupting your peace and quiet then try this. Visualize a large black board in front of you. Slowly count backwards from 10 to 0. Picturing each number in turn, on the blackboard. By the time I get to 5 I am usually aware that my counting is getting slower and slower. Perfect.

By this point I find that I can not actually feel where my arms or legs are. They are so relaxed I couldn’t tell you if my arms were crossed on my chest like an Eqyptian mummy, or laying by my side. You know that you could move your arms or your feet just to make sure but you are so peaceful – you cannot be bothered. The feeling of complete peace and relaxation is a truly wonderful thing. This is when all outside influences stop. This is now truly your time.

As the track progresses the deeper I go. The more relaxed I become. I reach the point which in many martial art circles is called ‘mind no mind’. Which translated means ‘the lights are on but no one is home’ It is like you have left your shell of a body to fend for itself. Your Higher Self has taken a vacation for a short while. It really is a fantastic feeling to be completely peaceful.

Unfortunately at this level, time is totally immaterial. You may be this deeply relaxed for 45 minutes, but it only feels like 5 minutes. You honestly feel like you could stay that way forever. Before you realise it the Binaural Beats and music is bringing your back up again. What a shame. Never mind I will have make some more ‘me time’ tomorrow evening. Only question, is which track shall I try?

If you are not used to meditation, when you first read that the track is 60 minutes long, you may think ‘crikey that’s a long time’, but believe me once you start achieving this level of relaxation, that 60 minutes seems to go so quickly, you just want to start it all over again.

Even though this was my first time listening to this particular track, please remember that I regularly practice meditation and I am used to Binaural Beats. Therefore I may have achieved a deeper level than someone just starting out. But please be patient – it is well worth the wait.

To achieve the above experience I used a 60 minute track using Binaural Beats with ambient soundtracks. It starts at Alpha level of 10hz then it gradually lowers to Delta level 1.5hz then 1hz then finally 0.5hz. Then it takes you back up again. The aim of this meditation is to help produce a very deep meditation. In my case, it certainly worked.

Note: You may need to listen to the same recording several times, preferably once a day, before your brain becomes entrained by the stimulation. So don’t be disappointed if you don’t experience results the first few times you listen to a specific recording. As your mind becomes trained by gradually listening to a specific recording each day, the more positive changes you will be likely to notice. Training the mind with frequencies is similar to training the muscles.

Use headphones for binaural beats. You will need a good quality pair of headphones so your brain can pick up the low delta tones in the background.

Cancer, the most dreaded word after AIDS. Yes. It’s true. We all want to stay away from it, as far as possible. We don’t want to touch it even with a ten foot pole. God forbid, if any one is diagnosed or even asked to go for a biopsy, life becomes hell (till cleared). Forget about the treatment–which is not conclusive even in this age–it does more damage than treat. The side effects give more publicity than the disease itself: patches on open skin, bulges on or near treatment area, rapidly losing hair leading to baldness, fearful eyes, changed overall behavior and what not! The unlucky one needs to live with it.

I think its enough description. But I had to put it. Because only then I could emphasize how you can possibly avoid it. I use the word “possibly” because nothing in this world is foolproof. But then there are two foolproof things: one that we can not go away from “the moment of truth” and the other one we are going away from: nature. That’s the first tip: stay closer to nature.

Let us have an example. All medical journals talk: prolonged exposure leads to cancer. I am not categorizing any causes, there may be many. But consider this: Indian summer months often cross 120 degrees Fahrenheit, local populace don’t have enough clothes to cover their bodies, yet we don’t see considerable population affected by the prolonged exposure. The locals eat raw onion, chillies and other local fruits & vegetables and for them the Sun does not exist. Women breast-feed their children, continue feeding till the next baby arrives and never get breast cancer. Allow your organ to do what it is supposed to do and it never develops the unwanted: the same tip, stay close to nature helps prevent complications.

Have a headache? Pop in a pill. No mustache? Get hormone treatment. Going out in the Sun? Use sunscreen. What the heck! All are chemicals. Do not go by the research journals alone. They hide more than they reveal. There are commercial lobbies & interests to stub the findings. Do some research on your own. Fashion & lifestyles are necessary but should not be bounding. Use a hat to avoid the Sun. Try to bear some pain, indulge in other work and your brain will forget. Fantasize often, it works wonders, and that’s the second tip.

The doctors treat you for your disease, as it appears NOW. They don’t know how you spent your childhood, your teen & middle age. Whether you drank beer or coke (good for cleaning toilets) instead of water, or kept yourself hydrated well, you popped too many pills or slept in Oxygen nets (like late Michael Jackson). Too much of anything and it hurts, not today but later when you grow old. Mend your ways, it is never too late. This is the next quarter-tip.

Do you take a morning stroll or run daily? Well, running one or two miles is enough, excess is bad. Your body is not made for running. Walking is good, for any length. Walking provides good lubrication for joints, with zero stress. Rope climbing, skipping ropes, laughing are good for health. Those who fear exercising stand to lose on every front. Accidents, injuries & trauma are part of life. They will always make inroads in our lives, but you can prevent injuries and give accidents a slip. This is the tip number two and a half.

Remember, we spend more than 12 hours standing / walking / working and so, our shoes should be comfortable. Next 6-8 hours in bed, so even that should be comfortable. The food we eat provides all the energy hence it should be filling, nourishing and satisfying. Binging once or twice a week is okay, excess is bad. Eat good food is the next tip.

The brain controls our body. What do you do to nourish it? You may sleep but brain functions, like our heart. Smile, laugh, crack jokes that induce laughter, weep till tears flow and meditate often. Spirituality is good for your brain, it soothes your nerves, silently. Read a page or two everyday of any holy text, especially before retiring to bed. If you cannot stand, listen to cool music. This the last tip.

Friends, stress, strain, tension are all here to stay. Lubricate all your body parts, avoid excess and stay by nature are the mantras to put cancer at bay.

Binaural beats are a brain wave entrainment method that has a very profound effect; it can not only bring you to a deep hypnotic state, binaural beats can also help to correct the brain wave imbalance that has contributed to your alcohol addiction.

Those with an addiction to alcohol often have low alpha brainwave activity; this means they can not turn off their thoughts, and relax. A clean, healthy, sober lifestyle can be yours. Binaural beat self hypnosis can help free you of your alcoholism forever!
Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The pulses elicit the brain? ?requency following?response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.

This ?requency following?response of brainwave entrainment can be seen in action with those prone to epilepsy. If a strobe flashes at their seizure frequency, the brain will ?ntrain?to the flashing light, resulting in a seizure.

On the positive side, this same mechanism is commonly used to induce many brainwave states; such as a trance, enhanced focus, relaxation, meditation or sleep induction. The brainwave entrainment effectively pushes the entire brain into a certain state.

Brainwave entrainment works for almost everyone. It is a great way to lead your mind into states that you might usually have difficulty reaching, allowing you to experience what those states feel like.

THE HYPE
There is a lot of marketing hype around brainwave entrainment. It is sold with promises of increasing IQ, promoting weight loss, ?ind-tripping? enhancing creativity, concentration, inducing spiritual states and more.

While these claims are not entirely true, they are not altogether false either. In practice, the claims are based on an overly-simplistic view of how the brain and the brainwaves function.
THE RUB
People are very seldom deficient in a certain brainwave type in all areas of their brain. Usually the distribution is much spottier, with an excess in one area and a deficiency in another.

We are all different, especially when it comes to the distribution of our brainwaves. Boosting a certain brainwave state may be beneficial for one person, and emotionally uncomfortable for another. Without knowing each person? starting position, entrainment can be rather ?it and miss?

If brainwave entrainment leaves you with unwanted side-effects (see below) or discomfort, you?e probably encouraging a range of brainwaves that are already excessive in some area of your brain. The way around this is to get a brain map to see what your brain? strengths and weaknesses are, and see what (if any) brainwaves could use some encouragement.

My first two students are graduating this year. Makes me feel pretty old, but that is beside the point. These two gentlemen have been in my studio for 6 years. I am so proud of their accomplishments! Between them, they’ve made top chairs at local, regional and state competitions, performed in numerous solo recitals, and have led their respective bands to higher accomplishments because of their high level talent. They are aiming for scholarships at some prestigious schools in this part of the country.

I remember their first few lessons; I knew then that these two students had the ability to be top ranked musicians. They were willing to try any of my teaching methods. Let me tell you, they are not of the traditional sort. Meditation. Mental practicing. Playing music backward. Trial and error. Lots of coaching. Teaching me. I could go on, but I won’t bore you.

I would like to point out to you their 2 keys to success today. Optimism and imperfect action.

Optimism is an internal instinct of hope. Without hope, growth is unlikely to occur in any part of your life. These two students have hope, and lots of it. They may not always know exactly what they are doing, or how they are doing it, but they understand that the end is in sight. My first impression of these guys 6 years ago was that they were optimistic – willing to hear new ideas for the betterment of their skills. Hope. In return, I was able to foster that hope inside them, increasing their likelihood for success.

Optimism is also a willingness to reach outside of the box. An internal desire to know more, to experience more, to expect more. Without reaching for new information, these students would still be playing at a 1st year level. How fun would that be? NOT! Their willingness to open up to possibility is what catapulted them to the top of their class. My studio is know for having students who succeed – because I foster this optimism in every student. They have a great track record for not only succeeding, but being top contenders at local, regional and state competitions. Without the stressful competitive attitude. It’s all about the optimism.

This brings me to the second success point: imperfect action. The body has a natural ability to correct and heal itself. In health. In mind. In spirit. In music, too. If I have a bone that is out of place, my body will immediately react by tensing up the muscles around it to brace for strength until the bone heals, right? If I teach a student what a good tone is, but not how to do it, their body will naturally adapt itself to match the good tone.

The HOW to get good tone takes a great deal of imperfect action. Trial and error. Cause and effect. Experimenting. My long term goal of teaching music is to teach each of my students how to teach themselves so they will not be dependent on a teacher or coach for musical excellence. The key is to teach a certain tolerance level for imperfect playing. This goes hand in hand with optimism. Teaching them to have hope and be open to new experiences, while trying new things that don’t work or almost work until they find the thing that does work. Then, voila! Success is born.

I use these same skills – optimism and imperfect action – in my coaching practice. Find hope. Do whatever it takes to foster optimism. Try new things. Take imperfect action until the end result is obtained. Simple, right? Not exactly. There were some struggles in the middle, of course. The optimism is what took them through the tough experiences to the success point.

I have great hope and optimism for the future of these two gentlemen. I know they have the skills to continue to teach themselves, as well as the basic life skills for a successful life in and out of music. Optimism. Imperfect Action.

Question:

My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has had a lumpectomy and chemotherapy. Is there anything she can do to improve her situation?

Answer:

It is against the Cancer Act of 1939 to make any suggestions for the prevention or cure of cancer. I have already been questioned by the authorities here for advising cancer sufferers on my website, even though I did not suggest any remedies or ‘magic’ cures. What I can do is suggest some tips that might help to improve your mother’s quality of life after chemotherapy.

In my opinion, there is a lot a woman can do to prevent the recurrence of cancer after mastectomy, chemotherapy and / or radiotherapy. These drastic treatments help to remove the obvious signs of cancer, but what needs to be cared for is the whole wellbeing of the body. One also needs to enhance the immune system – the body’s army against enemies of all kinds – and vitally, help the person to feel as good as possible.

Stress encourages everything in the body to grow at a heightened speed. You may have noticed that when you are stressed your nails need cutting once a week and hair once a month. but when you are relaxed – on holiday, say – hair and nails grow much more slowly. The adrenalin produced when we are under pressure speeds up the metabolism, the heartbeat the toning of muscle, and can also encourage abnormal cell growth.

So the primary thing, I believe, is to manage stress. Stress creates a ‘fight or flight’ reaction which controls the mind and body, even when people are not under pressure, cutting them in a permanent state of red alert.

These therapeutic measures help combat stress:

* Massage improves the circulation, releases physical aches and pains, helps with healing, and improves blood flow to the brain. Most essential is neck and shoulder massage, and I recommend doing this every evening before bed for five to ten minutes.

* Yoga alleviates physical stress, through the stretching postures, and emotional stress, through its emphasis on breathing.

* Relaxation techniques such as meditation are very beneficial. It is also good to spend time with nature, breathing fresh air, listening to calming music and praying.

*Psychological therapies, including Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), are very useful for dealing with deep-seated trauma.

I also recommend the following

* Nutrition is essential in managing the body’s functions during and after chemotherapy. it is important to protect the liver and kidneys, which take a heavy battering with chemotherapy. A good supply of vitamins and minerals is helpful, so eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and take a good vitamin supplement.

* The concept of starving the cancer cells with long fasts can, in my view, weaken the body. My suggestion is to give the gut and liver a complete rest once or twice a month by eating only fruit (but not citrus) and drinking vegetable juices or soups for a day.

* In general, avoid citrus fruits (the acidity impairs the digestion), spicy foods, nuts, fried food (which are bad for the stomach and liver), excess vinegar, foods containing yeast (bread, pizza, Marmite); Also avoid foods based on fungus (blue cheese, mushrooms) or sugary foods. These may trigger an overgrowth of candida which weakens the body. This can be followed by gut fermentation, which produces toxic alcohol that may affect the liver. Excess alcohol consumption can also weaken the liver.

* Make sure that constipation is kept at bay by drinking two liters of still, pure water daily between meals and eating fruits such as prunes, figs and papaya, as well as spinach.

* I also suggest, daily multivitamin and mineral supplement plus vitamin C (one 500mg tablet twice daily for four months) and drinking plenty of freshly juiced fruir and vegetables( preferably organic).

All the above should help your mother to feel much better. lf the body feels well and balanced, it will have the energy to fight cancer. No one should feel afraid or give in too easily. There are many more cancer survivors now than there were even ten years ago. I believe this is because people have become more conscious of how stress affects their lives. They are taking this seriously and making changes. It is this understanding of the importance of looking after one’s own wellbeing that is making the real difference in the survival rate.

1. Inflammation is one of the symptoms that come from putting bad nutrient starved food in your system. Carbohydrates are some of the worst things you can put into your body. They spike insulin levels and in many cases start a wildfire of inflammation. Inflammation puts the body in a state of chaos, and is horrible for weight loss. In this state the body breaks down and so you must avoid it at all costs. Take some anti-inflammatory herbs and eat food that will nourish the body to enable quick repair.

Vitamins and phytonutrient rich foods are important to ensure proper nutrition and restore the body to health. Citrus fruits, berries, green vegetables, vitamin supplements are all strong sources of these.

2. Digestive health is another critical element to great weight loss. Poor digestion can spark a flurry of problems that clog the body, weaken the immune system, slow the metabolism, start illness and a variety of many other things. To put your digestive system in best order, it would be advised to take digestive enzymes, eat fibre foods like kidney beans, broccoli, asparagus, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds. Also, herbs like chamomile, rosemary, ginger, licorice root all help. Making sure you are properly hydrated is another critical element to good digestion at least 2L/day.

3. Taking adequate breaks between each meal is important for digestive health. The digestive system needs time to break down, absorb and eliminate the food. You need to ensure at least 4-5 hours for proper processing.

4. Stress is very hard on digestion and to ensure optimal digestive function, manage these levels. Try to eat in a quiet stress free environment. Take at least 15 slow bites. If you are highly stressed, deep breathing, meditation, relaxing music are all great for stress reduction and digestion. Alkalyzing your body is important to put it in the best state to restore health and optimize weight loss. Eating large amounts of water rich fruits and vegetables will greatly alkalyze your body and blood and getting rid of acidic foods like refined carbs, sugars, re meat will greatly serve you.

Putting yourself in a high state of health is very important for having what you want.
