Brainwave Entrainment Alpha-Theta Meditation – How to Wage Guerrilla War Against Negative Beliefs

Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The pulses elicit the brain’s ‘frequency following’ response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.

A recent study commissioned by the National Institutes of Health showed that 9.4% of Americans practiced some sort of meditative activity. What are all these people hoping to achieve? For some, meditation is principally about stress reduction. For others, it is a spiritual pursuit, expressed in innumerable different ways according to the multitude of faiths that prescribe some form of contemplation. But for me, meditation is an opportunity to alter my state of consciousness and reprogram my subconscious mind.

Understanding The Power of Your Beliefs

If you are perfectly content with your lot in life – your circumstances, your relationships, your health, your happiness – then you probably don’t need to read any further. But for the vast majority of us who seek positive change in some aspect of our lives, sooner or later we must understand that our beliefs are holding us back. The kind of beliefs I’m talking about here are not beliefs in the existence or non-existence of God, or beliefs that Republicans are fundamentally more patriotic than Democrats. (I’m going to resist the temptation to explore that tangent!) No, what we need to examine are our beliefs about ourselves and how life works. Do you expect yourself to succeed or to fail? Do you believe that you can have a truly loving relationship with someone else, or do you expect nothing but acrimony because all men are pigs (or women are you-know-whats)? Do you believe that your body will inevitably fall apart with age, or do you think that age is just a meaningless number?

Beliefs have power. That power comes from you originally, when you choose the beliefs that will occupy your mind. (We are not going to blame other people for putting those beliefs there; we are going to take responsibility for them. For by taking responsibility we ultimately empower ourselves to change.) Beliefs have a tendency to gather corroborating evidence around them, making themselves appear more plausible. Over time, they affect your words and deeds, causing you to bring about the expected conditions. Don’t believe me? Try spending the next month of your life thinking that your spouse is evil. Sense the negative emotions welling up within you. Watch your attitude toward him or her change. Wait for the arguments to ensue. The snowball effect will kick in and, before you can say “I told you so,” your relationship will be in serious trouble. Now, I don’t want you to engage in such an experiment, but it is a useful thought exercise, and one that teaches you to be mindful of your beliefs at all times. You may not be doing anything quite so destructive with your thinking, but is there room for improvement? Of course there is.

How To Cut Off Negative Beliefs at Their Roots

Precisely because beliefs are so powerful, they can be enormously difficult to change. We may be able to recognize the need to change, if we are honest enough with ourselves and take the time for serious introspection. But uprooting those deeply entrenched mental structures can be next to impossible. Carefully selected positive affirmations – designed to counteract longstanding negative beliefs – are like foot soldiers going up against heavy artillery. To have any chance of success, you need to engage in guerrilla tactics. You must take the battle to a different front – the subconscious mind.

In our normal waking state, in which the conscious mind attends to all the day-to-day details of living, the brain operates at a fairly rapid frequency known as the Beta wave. The realm of the subconscious mind is experienced by most people only in certain stages of the sleep cycle, or by experienced meditators. In this state, the brain slows down and demonstrates Alpha and (even slower) Theta waves. If you can find a way to remain consciously aware while in an Alpha or Theta state, you will have an opportunity to commune directly with your subconscious mind, into which your beliefs have sunk their roots. It is at this level that you must plant more positive concepts that can, over time, supplant your negative beliefs and replace them with concepts that will manifest a higher quality of life for you.

Remaining conscious in these deeper states of mind is something of an art form. If you become too relaxed, it is easy to simply fall asleep. But for those of us who are not seasoned meditators, the new audio technology of brainwave entrainment can help. Precisely engineered soundtracks can encourage your brain to operate at Alpha and Theta frequencies while you hold on to your positive affirmation as a focal point. With practice and some determination, you will feel the change in your awareness as you descend within, you will sense how close you are to the wellspring of inner power and creativity, and you will know that you are changing your reality.
Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The pulses elicit the brain? ?requency following?response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.

This ?requency following?response of brainwave entrainment can be seen in action with those prone to epilepsy. If a strobe flashes at their seizure frequency, the brain will ?ntrain?to the flashing light, resulting in a seizure.

On the positive side, this same mechanism is commonly used to induce many brainwave states; such as a trance, enhanced focus, relaxation, meditation or sleep induction. The brainwave entrainment effectively pushes the entire brain into a certain state.

Brainwave entrainment works for almost everyone. It is a great way to lead your mind into states that you might usually have difficulty reaching, allowing you to experience what those states feel like.

THE HYPE
There is a lot of marketing hype around brainwave entrainment. It is sold with promises of increasing IQ, promoting weight loss, ?ind-tripping? enhancing creativity, concentration, inducing spiritual states and more.

While these claims are not entirely true, they are not altogether false either. In practice, the claims are based on an overly-simplistic view of how the brain and the brainwaves function.
THE RUB
People are very seldom deficient in a certain brainwave type in all areas of their brain. Usually the distribution is much spottier, with an excess in one area and a deficiency in another.

We are all different, especially when it comes to the distribution of our brainwaves. Boosting a certain brainwave state may be beneficial for one person, and emotionally uncomfortable for another. Without knowing each person? starting position, entrainment can be rather ?it and miss?

If brainwave entrainment leaves you with unwanted side-effects (see below) or discomfort, you?e probably encouraging a range of brainwaves that are already excessive in some area of your brain. The way around this is to get a brain map to see what your brain? strengths and weaknesses are, and see what (if any) brainwaves could use some encouragement.

Brainwave stimulation or entrainment as it is known is when the brain is given a rhythmic sensory stimulation. This could either be pulses of sound or light, when given this rhythmic stimulation the brain responds by synchronizing its own electric cycles to the same rhythm. This is known as the frequency following response or FFR for short.

After Alpha brainwaves were discovered in 1929 by Hans Berger researchers found that they could entrain the brain using flickering lights. After more research it was found that consistent rhythmic stimulation would entrain the brain to promote different mental states. Deep meditation which would normally take many years to learn could now be achieved within minutes using this technology. Now it must be understood that there are different types of auditory stimulation that can be used and some are better than others.

The first one to look at is Binaural beats which are the result of two slightly different tones being played into each ear which causes the internal wiring of the brain to create a third tone, this is known as the offset frequency. This is how it works lets say you send a 200hz tone to the right ear and a 210hz tone to the left ear the brain would then create a third tone which is the difference of the two which is 10hz this 10hz is what the brain would then entrain to. Unfortunately binaural bets do not produce a very strong response, added to this they also require headphones and would be completely ineffective without them, although binaural beats can be very hypnotic.

Monaural beats are the next best and they do not need headphones. The third type is what is known as isochronic tones and they are considered to be the most effective form of stimulation out of the three I have mentioned. These tones are evenly spaced pulses which simply turn on and off at a specific rate per second and they also do not need headphones to listen to. Using these and other types of stimulation such as light it is now possible to enter into different types of altered consciousness at will.

Grieving is painful and difficult. Each person copes with grief in their own way. While there is no magical formula to make grief disappear, there are simple steps you can use to help experience your grief in healing ways: talk about your loss, read books and stories, write down your thoughts and feelings, exercise your body, establish a daily routine, good self-care, and call upon your spiritual resources.

Step one. Talk about your loss. Telling your story many times releases grief stress. You want people to listen who are non-judgmental, caring, and are able to listen to tears or anger without trying to change how you feel. Support groups are good places to tell your story. If you are experiencing bereavement, then turn to a hospice near you. Your loved one need not have been under hospice care in order for you to join a support group. These groups are open to anyone.

Step two. Read books and stories of people who have experienced similar losses. You will find such books under grief and bereavement, as well as in the self-help sections of the library or bookstore. In the book stores you will also find workbooks for people who are working through their grief.

Step three. Write about your thoughts and feelings. Do you have a journal? If not, this would be a good time to purchase one. You don’t have to be a “writer” to keep a journal. Be creative. You can draw pictures. You can scribble. You can use splotches of color.

Step four. Exercise your body. Do the exercising that is pleasurable. Some people love to walk for at least thirty minutes a day. Some people love to run. Others take bike rides. There are so many activities to try: tennis, swimming, golfing. What have I left out that you really like? No need to do it alone, join with friends.

Step five. Establish a daily routine. Of course if you are working, then you have a daily routine. If you are out of work and looking, then pretty much your routine is to write resumes, make applications and do interviews. But maybe you need time off from job seeking for now and instead you could try temporary employment. Whom could you turn to for counsel?

Step six. Good self-care. In addition to all that we have talked about in the previous steps, good self-care includes rest and eight hours of sleep. What else might you do? Take a hot bath. Go to a movie with a friend. Listen to music. Laugh.

Step seven. Call upon your spiritual resources. Praying is helpful. Perhaps you practice yoga, tai chi, or Buddhist meditation? Is this a good time for you to make a spiritual retreat?

Be well my friend, you are not alone.

If you’re like me, you wish there were just a few more hours in the day. Between running the kids to various practices, games and lessons, being attentive to your marriage, making sure there’s clean clothes in everyone’s closets, conquering at least most of the dust bunnies threatening to take over your home, perhaps working full or part-time and volunteering at church…well, it doesn’t leave much time for anything else – even spending time with God.

But, if you’re like me, you also have a heart for God. You long to dig into the Word and devote yourself to prayer. Your deepest desire is to spend quality time with your Heavenly Father.

But how?

God understands the full lives of women. He understands when you have small children and aren’t able to spend an hour (or even twenty minutes!) at a time with Him. He knows your heart. There will come a day when you are able to spend more time with the God you love. And, no worries! I promise it will be before your last child moves out!

However, it’s because our lives are so busy that we need time with God more than ever. That’s why it’s important to make it a priority to steal splashes of time with Him throughout the day. Those brief moments may just be what we need to deal with the craziness and be able to do everything we women need to do without pulling our hair out (or our kids’ hair!)

Even taking five or ten minutes to read a devotional does wonders. Grab that moment over breakfast, while the kids are napping, in the carpool line or, if you have to, (shhhh) in the bathroom. Here are seven recommended devotional books for women that don’t take much time to read but offer a powerful dose of the Word to help get us through the day.

1. Women of Faith Daily Devotional. This book offers 365 devotionals by some of the world’s funniest women, including Patsy Clairmont, Thelma Wells, Shiela Walsh, Marilyn Meburg, Luci Swindoll, and the late Barbara Johnson. These short devotionals will keep you laughing while you learn.

2. The One Year Book of Devotions for Women on the Go, by Stephen Arterburn and Pam Farrel. This book of brief devotionals will encourage you to meditate on God’s Word daily, even in the midst of your hectic schedule.

3. Ten-Minute Time-Outs for Moms, by Grace Fox. Connect with God during a daily ten-minute timeout, sure to stir your spirit and refresh your soul.

4. Daily Steps for GodChicks, by Holly Wagner. A fun and fresh devotional for today’s modern women with traditional, God-loving hearts.

5. The One-Year Book of Devotions for Moms, by Ellen Banks-Elwell. These devotionals will strengthen and challenge you as you face the busyness of life as a mom.

6. The Official Soccer Mom Devotional, by Lynne Thompson. Soccer, baseball, football, dance, music lessons….this devotional is perfect for the mom always on the go (and in the car).

7. Sister Wit: Devotions for Women, by Jacqueline Jakes. This practical devotion explores four areas of life: struggles and troubles, virtues, encouragement, and inspiration and challenges you to make the most of every situation.

There are many other devotionals geared toward busy women on the market today. Whichever one you choose, the important thing is to get grounded in the Word every day. These moments with God, no matter how brief, will keep you filled with joy and peace amidst your crazy and hectic life as a woman.

An actor is a person who profession is acting on the stage, in film, or on television and in today’s world, he or she needs to stand out, be a better actor than the next guy if they to go very far.

It’s not an easy job even though masters of the performance skill make it look so.

Brainwave entrainment, a powerful personal self-help tool, utilizes the scientific principle of frequency following response, synchronizing your brainwaves to an outside stimulus. The brain is stimulated, through specific sound patterns, to alter the state of consciousness of your mind.

Entrainment can artificially induce the brainwave state that will allow you to achieve your acting goals without your conscious effort.

Specially designed sessions in alpha brainwave frequency, introduced in isochronic tones or binaural beats, will help you in all areas of elocution. This is the place of emotions and images and where your make-believe world can feel true. You will be in a relaxed yet awake state. Alpha is usually generated in the right hemisphere of the brain, which deals with visual activities and plays a role in putting things together, or comes from a synchronized pattern distributed between both brain spheres. You naturally feel this brainwave when you’re just about to fall asleep. This is a very suggestible state. Information received in this frequency is automatically recorded and saved in the sub-conscious.

How Brainwave Entrainment Can Help You Be A Better Actor

PREPARING TO STUDY SCRIPT

Entraining puts your body and mind into a fully relaxed, peaceful, pleasantly spaced out state almost instantly.
…enhances your mental image technique so that you can easily visualize the way you want your performance to go.
…utilizes your imagination. The mind in this state doesn’t know what’s real or imagined. The make belief world feels true which will really help you when you deliver your words.
…centers you.
…gives you great clarity.
…releases serotonin, elevating your mood, which has a great effect on your mental health and physical well-being. You’re together.
…helps you begin studying from a positive place…positive energy.

MEMORIZING SCRIPT

Entrainment from alpha frequency is vital for absorbing information, like a script, without stress,
…increases your focus.
…helps you remember what you’ve studied.
…lets you easily recall that information when you are on stage.

BEING ON STAGE

Brainwave entrainment in alpha will decrease stage fright.
…reduce fear, tension, stress, nervousness, and anxiety.
…increase your passion.
…induces feelings of comfort being on stage in a social setting.
…helps you feel connected to the other actors, the scripts, and the audience.
…will take you from being introverted to exroverted… in a good way.
…will help you achieve an impressive and remembered performance.

Becoming an actor that is noticed and followed, is a lot easier when you incorporate brainwave entrainment.

When was the last time you had a really good day? Hmmm. Been a while? Isn’t it time to take control and make a good day happen?

Take a moment to think about what would make your day better, maybe even make it great. What would that be? Seeing the face of someone you love and who loves you back? Hearing your favorite music? Knowing you have purpose to your day and to your life? A smile? Money left over after the bills are paid? A pat on the back from your boss? The skies clear and the sun shines? You see the first spring flower? What?

Think about the small things as well as the big things that would blend together to make your day great. Me? I listen to a little Bach, hear my grandson’s giggle (even if it’s in my mind), take a deep breath and I’m good to go. What would work for you?

Some things that work most of the time for many of us include:

1. Visualize success and then drop your expectations. You have a plan, or a “to do” list, or an idea of what you need to accomplish today. You have visualized yourself having great success every step of the way. Now drop you expectations of the outcome – just for today. If everything gets changed and nothing goes the way it was planned, you can deal with it if you haven’t hung everything on rigid expectations. For example, you have a big project that you have just completed and will present to the boss this morning. You have given it your very best shot. Now drop your expectations of the outcome. Either way it goes you will not be disappointed. If it’s praise you receive, bask in it. If it is criticism, the way to fall isn’t as far as it is from the pinnacle of high expectation and it’s easier to accept suggestions for revision. If she cancels your meeting, you won’t wither with disappointment. Dropping expectations now and then makes it possible to enjoy whatever happens or at least to adjust more easily.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying never to have expectations. Sometimes anticipating a good time is what keeps you going. I’m saying don’t always predict the outcome. Do the best you can and let what happens happen.

2. Spend some time with yourself. Take a few minutes of “quiet time.” You are the best possible company you can keep so spend some time getting to know you better. You can use the time to meditate or write in your journal. You can think about all those things you appreciate, the people you love, the kindnesses you have been shown. You can think about your strengths and consider different ways you can use these strengths to improve you life or the lives of others. You can use the time to think about what you really want in life or in this day. Your day will go better if you spend some time with you.

3. Think as positively as you can – just for today. Unless your job depends on it, don’t watch the news today and instead read about something good, uplifting, new and creative or watch something on YouTube that is inspiring or so funny it makes you laugh out loud all by yourself. Just for one day, don’t compare yourself with anyone else or criticize yourself in the mirror. Be aware of words that contain can’t, won’t, don’t, could, would, should and drop them out of your vocabulary.

4. Sing. It doesn’t matter if you sound like a cat with it’s tail caught in the door – sing. It does something wonderful for the soul and lifts your spirits like nothing else can do. If you sound worse than the cat or are always in a group of people, sing inside your head. Try to stay away from the “somebody done me wrong song” or any other music that brings you down. Pick something you like and sing.

5. Breathe. Yes, I know you’re already breathing but are you thinking about it? Take a deep breath – as deep as you can get it – hold it while you think about all that fresh oxygen that’s going in to your system. Breath is life. Think about how fantastic it is that your body does it without you having to direct it to do so. Now let it out and think about how you’ve just let go of what no longer serves you. Take another conscious, deep breath. Three of those does wonders to relax and refresh you. Without breath you wouldn’t have a day at all, much less a good one. Enjoy the breath.

6. Smile. Even if you don’t mean it right now. Smile. Your face won’t crack. Really. Smile even if there isn’t anyone around to see it. And be sure to smile at the next three people you see – give each one a big dazzling smile and see what happens.

So there’s six things to help you have a better day. I know none of them are new ideas – just the same old stuff. But it’s old stuff that works. Try one of them or all of them and see what a difference it makes. If for some reason they don’t change your state then do this: go out and do something nice or needed for someone else. That will give you a good day every time.
Now go out with a smile and enjoy the day.

First of all, what actually is acne? It isn’t only for the young it can happen even to middle aged adults. It’s is a process that begins when your oil glands in your skin become clogged.

These glands produce oil to help keep your skin healthy and to protect the skin from bacteria, dirt and becoming too dry. But sometimes they produce too much oil and the extra oil starts collecting under your skin surface which is the start of a pimple.

This usually forms a hard plug when the oil mixes with dead skin cells. When this plug stays under your skins surface it becomes what is known as a whitehead. If it becomes bigger and comes up to the surface of the skin it is known as a blackhead. The blackheads are dark because of a buildup of melanin which is a pigment in the skin that is responsible for the color of your skin and when you get suntanned.

Girls usually begin getting acne at about 11 years old and boys at about 13. This is the age when the body begins making large amounts of androgen which is a hormone. Because of this hormone overproduction it usually causes the pimples to form.

Most people get noninflammatory kind of acne. It usually only causes a few pimples every once and a while. Nothing very serious. But some people get inflammatory acne. This is a more severe form that has many outbreaks that can occur all over the neck, face, back, groin and chest. These pimples are actually small cysts filled with pus that may cause scarring. This kind is usually hereditary.

Stress and anxiety can trigger acne and sometimes chemicals in makeup and shampoos can bring on pimples. Science hasn’t been able to show that foods we eat are a cause but some people seem to do better if they don’t eat too much chocolate or greasy foods.

Some things to do to help get rid of the pimples from acne. Wash your face gently with mild soap. Your skin needs to breathe so don’t use makeup or if you do use very little. Try not to pick your pimples which may lead to scarring.

Drink at least eight glasses of filtered water every day and stay away from soda and sugared drinks. Eat fruits and vegetables and get a good amount of exercise each day.

You may even want to learn to meditate or listen to quiet soothing music to keep the stress out of your life. Doing the things listed above may help you to get rid of the acne and make your life a lot happier.

Were you captivated by the Matrix movies or The Game starring Michael Douglas, or even the Fight Club starring Brad Pitt, or Steven Spielberg’s A. I. Artificial Intelligence movie? Heralded by the longest night, the least amount of sunlight, Capricorn arrives with the Winter Solstice on December 21, 2009 and departs January 20, 2010. And with it comes mysteries, being in the background, yet fully in command. Time to wake up; realize just what the game of life is all about and you can take charge during Capricorn. Don’t miss the opportunity.

Energies: There are three energies pouring down on us during the time of Capricorn which we all have the opportunity to embrace.

Will energy: In its undiluted form, it is the most powerful of all energies. It cuts through all illusions, shows us what’s really going on beneath all the smoke and mirrors. Learning to embrace this Will energy and the power inside of you is everyone’s destiny, not just a Capricorn who must deal with it every day of their lives.

Engage with Will energy, transform any of its destructive elements and develop inner strength. Don’t run away from this energy, it’s the only energy that is strong enough to cut through the maze of life and end up with love. Will is pure spirit. It’s the energy of leaders, in Capricorn’s case, usually behind the scenes, but clearly pulling all the strings.

Manifestation energy: This is really Will energy that got all the way down to the physical plane. It’s not intangible but expressed in matter, condensed energy. It shows up as the life force of products or services that are strong enough to survive, sometimes for centuries. Become the sales person, making sure these not only survive but do really well.

Balance energy: In astrological language, Will and Manifestation Energy are the two energies that started off the astrological year in Aries. These energies are the opposite ends of the spectrum. And guess what these same energies are pouring down on us during Capricorn; Balance energy. Wielding these opposite energies, sloughing off their destructive extremes, finding the best of both brings about Balance. No wonder Capricorns must retreat to their caves to sort this all out by themselves, emerging only when they’ve figured out a way to balance whatever it is they might have got themselves caught in, in the game. Another way of saying Balance is Karma, balancing any past deeds that weren’t so cool. And building on your strengths, what you’ve done that truly is helpful.

Virtues: Empowerment, self discipline and patience.

Vices: Too strong, sabotage and pessimism.

Personal

Get in your cave and watch any or all of the Matrix series, a trilogy of science fiction action films: The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded, and The Matrix Revolutions where humans act out their lives in a virtual reality world while their minds are in another dimension. Let your own mind be stimulated to figure out what the game of life is about here on planet Earth. Here are three more to help you awaken if you didn’t get it fully watching the Matrix trilogy: The Game starring Michael Douglas and Sean Penn which is a real Capricorn thriller, with a powerful businessman thinking only of business, schedule and work. You will be intrigued every step of the way. And here are a couple of others, if not for this Capricorn, then the next: The Fight Club starring Brad Pitt and Steven Spielberg’s A. I. Artificial Intelligence movie.

And do whatever it takes that’s of course good karma, to ensure that you are happy, don’t fall into pessimism. Zumba, play really uplifting music, meditate, there’s no one way, but get those happy juices flowing.

Intimate Relationships

First you have to come out of your cave long enough to fully interact, get involved, make the other person feel included. Minimum, take your partner into your cave with you to snuggle up during a cold winter’s night.

Family

Christmas occurs during Capricorn, and even if you are not Christian, it’s holiday time. Here’s my favorite Christmas quote from a most famous Capricorn, “A good conscience is a continual Christmas,” by Benjamin Franklin.

Workplace

If you are good at sales, you can survive in any economy and do well. There are so many good products, services, inventions sitting on the shelves because there is no one to sell them. And to be really effective, you must sell yourself, believe you are worthy. After all, you are your own product. Your service is what you can do to help those that really have a need, using your natural abilities.

Community

You are so smart, and money is your game if you are a Capricorn. Don’t apologize, help with it. You could help a thousand ways, as you will always know the best deals, could do bookkeeping, sales and your ability to organize is awesome. And during Capricorn, money is everyone’s game, either getting it or holding on to it.

If you are down in the dumps, go volunteer and help someone that is worse off than you. It does wonders for the spirit. Give generously this month; money, if you have it. If you don’t, give of your time to help uplift someone else.

Meditation music is music performed to aid in the practice of meditation. It can have a specific religious content, but also more recently has been associated with modern composers who use meditation techniques in their process of composition, or who compose such music with no particular religious group as a focus.

“Prayer is when you talk to God; meditation is when you listen to God.” -Diana Robinson

I will offer you a guide on how to meditate with music, summarized in 10 easy steps to make the most of this kind of meditation.

1. Choose a good piece of meditation music or meditative, inspirational, instrumental music. Why instrumental music? Because instrumental music stimulates your right brain’s activity (the intuitive side of your brain). Music with lyrics involves your left brain’s activity (the rational side of your brain), because linguistically spoken words makes you think. When you meditate, what you want is to quiet and transcend your rational mind, which is usually overtaxed by hectic modern life styles. So choose an instrumental song when you want to meditate with music. Songs with choirs are fine as long as the voices do not utter linguistically spoken words. A notable exception to this might be the so called sacred sounds coined in ancient languages, which are used as mantras along with the music, as in the case of Tibetan music.

2. Go to a quiet, peaceful place. Take the phone off the hook. Make sure you will not be disturbed or interrupted. Find a comfortable, relaxed position to sit or lie for a half hour. The more relaxed you are, the more beneficial your meditation with music will be because you will grasp better the music vibrations. This is due to the fact that, as you relax, you become more sound sensitive. So before you listen to your piece of meditation or inspirational music, you may wish to spend some moments focusing your quiet attention on each part of your body, starting with the feet and moving up to the top of your head, while you breath deeply but slowly.

3. Next, listen to your meditative music with headphones, at a comfortable volume. You can use a cassette deck, a CD player or an iPod to meditate with music, but the use of a pair of good quality headphones is necessary to better receive the musical vibrations. It does make a difference. If you use an iPod, make sure that your selected music has been converted by your iPod system to the highest possible bitrate (ideally to WAV or AIFF music files) to ensure maximum sound quality (you can edit your preferences in the advanced/importing menu; then right click on the song and choose “convert to”).

4. While you listen, use a natural (not forced) diaphragmatic breathing to meditate with music. This is the so called “belly breathing”. On inhaling through your nostrils, direct your breath into your abdomen and feel it rise. On exhaling through your nostrils, feel your abdomen fall. If you want to center even further, lightly press your tongue against the roof of your mouth while you inhale deeply (but slowly) through your nostrils and exhale not through your nostrils but through your slightly parted lips.

5. Relax. Do not worry about what you should be thinking, visualizing or doing while you meditate with music. This is not about “doing””but about “being”.

6. When different thoughts cross your mind, just let them be and pass away. Focus on the music. Let the sounds be your mantra. If you find yourself directing your thoughts or attention to the past or the future, return to the here and now. Be present in the moment.

7. As you focus on your inspirational music, allow its vibrations to passively stimulate your positive energies. Give yourself up to the music. Allow it to naturally work upon your emotions, mind and soul. Feel it surrounding you, embracing you, filling you. Absorb its vibrations with each breath. When you begin to resonate with the music, you will notice that your breath and your heartbeat gradually synchronize to the “pulse” of the music. This is called entrainment. Your mood is matching the mood of the music and moving already into the desired direction.

8. Once you have reached the entrainment point, enjoy it. Stay there as long as it feels good to you. If the music stimulates your imagination at this stage, enjoy it. That signals the release of stress. If you fall asleep, do not worry. That is also a sign of the release of stress. You can end your meditation with music at this point. You would be refreshed afterwards and in a better position to go back to your daily life.

9. While at the entrainment point, some people may wish to go further and incorporate visualization tools to your meditation with music. This entails visualizing yourself comfortably succeeding at a specific goal of yours. Do not do this before you reach the entrainment point, since it could transform your meditation with music into a mere exercise of will power in the arena of your rational mind. Do it only after you reach the entrainment point and you are in a relaxed state. At this point you can incorporate visualization tools.

When doing so, vividly imagine the experiences you want to have. I say to visual people: visualize your dreams; to auditory people: hear them; to kinesthetic people: feel them; to smellers: scent them; to tasters: relish them.

A word of caution: do not waste your time visualizing or wishing things that may invade the sphere of other people, since this will take you out of the positive energy creative field, wasting your meditation energy and making it work in reverse, against you. Your desires must be honest and aligned with the highest good of all, pursuant to the law of unity.

10. Once your meditation with music ends, do not rush back into your daily life. You have to ground and assimilate the energy. Remain still for several minutes. If you meditated with your eyes closed, gently open them and let them adjust to the light. Slowly stretch each major part of your body. Sit or lie quietly for about five minutes. Notice and enjoy how relaxed, refreshed and strengthen you feel. Finally, express gratitude for the benefits of your meditation with music.
