Creative Visualization And Meditation

For thousands of years the art of meditation and creative visualization has been practiced by countless millions. Every country has their own forms and styles of meditation practices.

Recently in the Western World, with its technological advances (one of our greatest problems), hundreds of visualization techniques have been touted by the ever hungry commercial world.

The first step to correct meditation and visualization techniques is that you need to have a one-on-one mapping between the meditation and the true energies of the meditation itself. What I am saying is that you must have a true understanding within yourself of what the meditation means to you, and what it will do for you.

When you are meditating a powerful Eastern meditation such as when you are using the word ‘OM’, do you really know what it means? Do you know where it originated or what type of energies this will attract into your aura? Or do you blindly accept what it says in a book?

Remember the energies you attract into your aura create your physical reality.

How about the powerful ‘White Light’ or ‘Violet Light’ meditations which seem to be so popular today. Do you really know what they mean or what and where the energies come from?

Then there is the taped meditations accompanied with music. They talk you into a creative visualization. A visualization of a peaceful water falls or a green forest lake.

You may mentally understand what a peaceful water falls or a forest lake looks like. But do they really have the healing and consciousness raising energies that a true meditation will bring you?

The closer you can come to the true energy (non-verbal) reality of reality the more powerful and effective the meditation and creative visualization will be. Where the map and the territory match.

With the other types of meditation you may feel good, but like my teacher once told me, “Ellis, if you want to feel good, take a warm bath. Now lets get to work on your true purpose in life, the raising or your level of consciousness.”

Now that we have entered the Age of Aquarius we have been given a new set of spiritual tools to work with. Truly evolution is the throwing away of old toys, old ways of doing things.

The Age of Aquarius has given mankind a new set of spiritual toys to work with. They are called the Laws of Quantum Physics. These laws explain all the laws of creation. They also give us rules on how to become co-creators ourselves. We can co-create a newer and brighter future for ourselves and humanity in general.

The Laws of Quantum Physics tell us that there exists and infinite ocean of thinking intelligent energy called the Quantum Ocean. It is the Mind of God. Everything that ever was, is or will be exists in this ocean. There is no time, No past, present nor future. Only the ‘NOW’. There is no space there only the ‘HERE’. There is only the ‘Here-Now’. An infinite point in the Mind of God.

We live, move and have our being inside this point, this Quantum Ocean, this Mind of God. We came from there and we will go back there. In reality we have never left. This is one of the spiritual secrets of ‘To Be’.

Therefore to perform the most powerful health giving and conspicuousness raising meditation and creative visualization possible go to the source. Go to the Quantum Ocean, the Mind of God.

It is said, “In my Father’s house there are many mansions.” Start using your Quantum Physics meditations and creative visualizations to explore this kingdom within. It is all there waiting for you.

These days Japanese bamboo flutes or Shakuhachi flutes are used by a lot of practitioners of Zen Buddhism and meditation as well as for playing Jazz, Classical, Japanese folk music and improvisation. The soothing sound of the Japanese bamboo flute or Shakuhachi helps guide us, breath by breath, into a more relaxed and peaceful state of being, while gifting ourselves and others with the beauty of the unique sound.

The Shakuhachi bamboo flute is made from the very bottom of a bamboo tree, but versions now exist in ABS and hardwoods. The name shakuhachi is derived from the term “isshaku hassun” meaning one shaku and eight sun (1.8 Japanese feet). Generally the term shakuhachi refers to the standard size instrument, which is 54.5 cm in length, but it can also refer to many different sizes ranging from 1.3 – 2.5 shaku (39.4 – 75.7 cm) and longer. The shakuhachi is frequently made from the root portion of a thick-walled bamboo (known as madake in Japanese).

If you see a bamboo Japanese flute you can see that it looks simple in appearance. But, did you know that it is very difficult to play? If played by a master this bamboo Japanese flute can create amazing, subtle, sensual music – prized as being perfect for meditation and relaxation. It’s beautiful, soulful sound is wonderful to listen to when you are taking a good rest or are relaxing or getting ready for sleep. If you are into Zen then having a Japanese bamboo flute can help you with your focus. The soothing sounds that the bamboo flute make create a calm feeling. Did you know that The Zen flute came from China to Japan sometime in the 6th century? The instrument was then adopted by a sect of Zen Buddhist monks around the 15th century. This fact definitely explains the bamboo Japanese flutes long relationship with martial arts.

If you are looking for an instrument for your energetic child to learn, look no further. The Shakuhachi will help calm you child’s soul and give them focus and concentration. Imagine if your child took up the bamboo flute as one of their hobbies. Not only it is safe but at the same time your children will be musically inclined and be calmer and more focused because of their daily practice.

Another good thing about bamboo Japanese flute is that you can buy them cheaply or you can make them at home. If you are going to make a homemade bamboo flute just make sure to have the right guidelines and information. You need to know the proper measurements, the holes and the exact length and weight of a good bamboo flute which you can find online. Get yourself a bamboo Japanese flute and have soothing and relaxing sounds anytime you want in your own home!

As with all great traditions, there are few differences at experiential levels; however, at a belief level, after we label and try to explain the experiences, some differences exist – such as beliefs about heaven and God. Heaven is achievable, but always only a temporary respite for a Buddhist, and there is no belief in a personal God; a difference between belief and actual knowing is recognized. We can believe in Santa Claus, but when we see him in our living room putting gifts under the tree, then our belief becomes a reality, unless, of course, its dad all dressed up!

So what do Buddhists believe? They believe that we must follow the precepts, or guidelines, which number five, eight and ten for lay people, and two hundred twenty-seven for monks. The five precepts list not killing, stealing, indulging in inappropriate sex (with those spoken for or too young to understand), lying, or indulging in intoxicants. These are to be adhered to at all times.

The eight precepts are kept temporarily when a lay person attends a retreat or visits a monastery. They are the five precepts plus 6. no eating solid food after noon, 7. no dancing, singing, music, entertainment, jewelry, perfumes or cosmetics, and 8. no sleeping on high or large luxurious beds.

The ten precepts apply to people actually living in a monastery and add no touching of money, gold or silver to the list, and separates the seventh precept into two. making ten. Buddhists believe that if these precepts are kept, the next lifetime will be in a happy realm of humans or devas (minor Gods). However, because of past karma from many other lifetimes that has not been fully resolved, there is the possibility that after some time in this happy realm, a temporary fall back into the hell, animal or ghost realms could occur. Therefore, only being a good person won’t insure a happy destiny forever – that takes additional work.

Heaven to a Buddhist, unfortunately, is not a one-way ticket! If only it were that easy. A Buddhist must go a little deeper than being good, kind, loving, and following the rules. The morality has to become natural where all actions are moral without thinking about how morality will help them get to heaven. This requires what is called a spiritual training of the mind, or meditation, which if perfected, removes all our bad karma so that we will not have to worry about falling back into the lower realms.

Spiritual training begins with meditation; concentrating the mind or practicing awareness. In Christianity, this is called orison or introversion, which is further broken down into recollection, quiet and contemplation (meditation). These stages of Christian practice parallel Buddhist meditation very closely, with the outcome being an approach to the ground of the Christian soul. The mind sinks into nothingness, which deepens until the Christian mystic completes his or her journey within to the center of the divine Immanence where he or she comes face to face with his or her God, no different than the Christian prophets who have come before. The mystic doesn’t read about God or imagine him at this refined level, the mystic actually meets him! Why else would monks squirrel themselves away and give up all the good times to be had in the world? St John of the Cross, a quintessential Christian mystic has said that all the pleasures of the world are but crumbs from the God’s table.

After a Buddhist practices meditation religiously, lives a moral life, and acquires wisdom, he or she then goes on to the Brahma, or god planes of existence which span millions of years. Depending on their success with meditation, they will spend from one span to 84,000 spans in these realms. But, alas, eventually they will fall back into human form and be susceptible to all the physical and mental hardships, because only a human form can attain eternal freedom. All the other heaven and god realms are pleasant, but temporary.

The only way to insure never falling back into human form is to acquire supramundane wisdom, and this is done through advanced meditation practices, strict morality and the cultivation of wisdom. The meditator will observe materiality( material things in the universe including our bodies) with bare attention, not intellectual evaluations. He or she will see the arising and passing of all materiality.

The meditator will observe impermanence of all things in the universe, the suffering of beings here on earth, and the reality that no self stands behind it all. What the meditator sees as a self is only a reflection of the Ultimate Reality, but because we spend so much time on this self apparition, we never really get to know this Reality, and therefore can’t be with it permanently.

The trick is to somehow see this self and break the self-hypnosis that we are under. This is called enlightenment; a direct personal experience that is totally intuitive and beyond the common mind. Once the self is seen through, there is no possibility of ever returning to the human or lower realms.

All of this can only be experienced, not something that is believed in. Buddhists only believe what they can prove true for themselves, and meditation is the means of doing that. Once a permanent shift in consciousness occurs, then one can remain in the present and a base of calm underpins everything. Then, no matter what the turbulent outside circumstances are, underlying peace and wisdom prevail without effort. Therefore, Buddhists need not look to future realms or other places for their happiness, happiness is present in every moment .

This article was part of the front page for the ‘Club of 27’ webpage in 2005. It was the result of a presentation featuring the astrology of the 1960s and club of 27 members Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse. The webpage must have inspired the editors of Wikipedia as they featured a ‘Club of 27’ page–sans astrology of course. Later that year, the Serbian astrology magazine Astrologus published the presentation and then came to London to meet the presenters at the Psychedelic Dream Tea Palace in Camden Market.

It is tempting and perhaps far too easy to point out that all the members of the Club of 27 lived hard and died young. Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse so readily gave themselves to the hedonism, recklessness and controversy of their lives that even astrologically it is difficult to see beyond their tragic deaths, neatly marked out by a Uranus trine and Neptune sextile.

However, the members of the ‘Club of 27’ all had prominent Uranus connections. Hendrix, left handed and inventive from an early age, was playing the guitar with his teeth and behind his head before he could train himself to play the guitar with his right hand. Jones, born into relative privilege, did not battle his way out of poverty but out of the limitations imposed by his class. Joplin could never see herself as worthy of being loved–and so she set out to break down not only the gender barriers of the music industry but the racial ones as well. Winehouse’s life echoed similar themes a Saturn cycle later. A lover of reptiles to his family and friends long before he became known as the Lizard King to his fans, Morrison, the troublesome practical joker with an exceptionally high IQ had the rebellious and macho Mars-Uranus conjunction. Cobain, brought up in a society where perfect looks sell mediocre music, was the greasy-haired founding member of the “Grunge” music and lifestyle, was born during the Uranus/Pluto conjunction of the mid 1960’s. It is perhaps unsurprising theses Club of 27 members frowned on the “squares” of their generation: all have a conspicuous lack of the square aspect in their charts.

Additionally, Jones, Joplin and Hendrix were born with the Saturn/Uranus conjunction in their charts. Perhaps in an archetypal sense, this conjunction was epitomised by the unleashing of nuclear power in December 1962, in Chicago, when the firm structure of things (Saturn) was broken up in a totally new way (Uranus). Hendrix was born within days of that event, and Joplin only a month after. It was the same conjunction, echoing in their natal charts that would contribute to the cultural explosion that was the ’60’s.

In astrology, the planet Uranus is associated with sudden and shocking revolution. Uranus is known particularly for its ability to use eccentricity and innovation to bring about change. The Uranus of the United States stands at 8 Gemini (US Chart). At it’s first return in 1861, Civil war had broken out, and at it’s second return, US soldiers were fighting in WWII on the beaches of Normandy in 1944. Thus, the birth of Janis, Jimi, Jim and Brian coincided with the start of the third Uranus-cycle of the United States.

This triangle consisted of Uranus-trine-Neptune, both pointing in sextile to Pluto. The Neptune of this generation was also right on the MC of the United States (3° Libra), so the “children of the revolution” held their ideals of a Utopian society. They fantasised about their country having peaceful and gentle relations with the rest of the world. They would grow to be unafraid to experiment with music and drugs. With the Uranus/Neptune trine pointing in sextile to Pluto, this generation seemed focused on complete reformation. This transformation would seem to be part of the American karmic fate as Pluto is on the North Node of the US chart. It wasn’t until this generation grew up and began expressing themselves as adults that the effects of this configuration could be seen. Quite simply, by the time Janis, Jim, Jimi and Brian were born, the United States was ripe for a shake-up.

Thus, already predisposed to experiment, this generation would find fame during the Uranus/Pluto conjunction of 1966. 1967 was the year of the revolutionary Monterey Music Festival, the blossoming of the unforgettable Flower-Power revolution. During this time this vital conjunction of Uranus/Pluto moved across the Neptune of the US chart at 22° Virgo, showing the glorious dreams of which America is capable – but also, it wrought confusion and chaos on a society battling for equality, rebelling against authority and traumatised by a foreign war. The meeting of Uranus, the planet of androgyny and Pluto with its power-of-the-depths, coincided with the sexual revolution and the advent of the feminist movement. It seemed this generation became feminised, as a lot of young people, young men in particular, wore beads and flowers in their hair. The lifestyles of music, drug use, hedonism, psychedelic fashion and promiscuity characterise this Pluto/Uranus era, a time affectionately known as “The Swinging Sixties.”

When we look back on this era it is with a quiver of excitement and nostalgia. We can almost once again conjure up the wonderful feeling of rebellion, lack of inhibition and experimentation. It was also a time a great terror and turmoil: bodies of America’s young men were rotting in fields with unpronounceable names, as the Vietnam war raged. On home soil, an ongoing battle for racial equality was happening – a battle that never should have been necessary in the first place. No one knew better about the discrimination Black America faced than Jimi Hendrix, the only Black member of the Club of 27. Returning to America from a successful British tour in 1967, Hendrix found himself in a New York hotel – and was promptly mistaken for a bellhop.

Through a smoky haze, this generation used music to express their dreams of peace and harmony as the Vietnam War raged and used drugs to escape the grim reality of a futile conflict. The finest anti-war songs came from this period. The Flower-Power generation expressed its anger through music and thereby de-legitimised the war. Its new visions were moulded while experimenting with drugs and meditation. The expression “If you can remember the ’60’s you weren’t there,” seems an apt tribute to this time. And who better to carry and inherit the torch of the sixties turmoil than the sensitive, emotionally water-logged Piscean Kurt Cobain who had the conjunction of Pluto/Uranus straddling his ascendant? Amy Winehouse, too, would become a member of the Club of 27 in due course. Her Sun was in loose conjunction to Uranus/Pluto configuration of the ’60s.

Most people pack so much into one day that they believe it’s impossible to fit meditation time into their daily routine. The truth is the ego will fabricate whatever story it needs to in an effort to stop you from meditating.

Before you allow that to happen keep this reality in mind:

“Meditation is not some-thing you do…it is the experience of Being that which you are!”
– Terry Swejkoski

What if you could breakout of the typical mindset of being too busy to sit in silence for a few minutes each day? Would you at least be willing to give it a try, or would you continue to allow your ego to control which path you take?

There’s an old saying, “you don’t know what you don’t know,” however, the experience of meditation allows you to get in touch with all that is simply waiting for you to discovery. You know a lot more than your mind will allow you to acknowledge – meditation takes you far beyond mind.

When you begin meditating you will start to see what you don’t know – it will begin to materialize into your life as if by magic. The deep knowing that is only experienced in silence is brought to the forefront and your acceptance of what is matures through conscious clarity. When sitting still, you allow the deeper messages from the higher self to come through and provide direction based upon a much higher level of knowledge. This knowledge comes from the Spiritual self, which is the true essence of which you are.

Fitting meditation into daily routine is easy to do – anyone can experience it.

Here are a few suggestions:

• Get out of bed a half hour before anyone else does in the household

• Pick a time and simply place it on your calendar as you would with any other appointment

• Acknowledge the existence of higher self and ask for guidance

• Train yourself to be still by listening to soft inspirational background music

• Replace television time with meditation time

Contrary to what some so called “Guru’s” teach – there are no-rules for meditation. Simply follow your own inner guidance system (higher self) to bring meditation into your active daily life. It’s really not necessary to follow a formal lesson plan to begin meditating; you can do so for brief moments, even seconds.

Once you start to experience the blissful affects of meditation, you will automatically find yourself allowing more moments for peace, silence and tranquility, which will replace other outside mind based experiences that clutter the mind.

Think about a time when you were sitting at a classical concert and listening to the instruments warming up. The cacophony of sound was disconcerting probably to say the least, but once a single person tapped a tiny wand a few times and began to wave it around, magic began to happen. The magic didn’t just happen on the stage, it cascaded off the stage like a waterfall and soon had the audience enraptured. The music transported the audience mentally to an entirely different place. At least that’s how it happens for many people.

If you are familiar with a piece of music it can take you many places. Those places are often familiar. Your mind drifts back to a time when you heard that particular piece, or maybe (if you are a child of the sixties and seventies) you might harken back to a laser light show that augmented the music that was a part of your altered state of mind. Or maybe it wasn’t like that for you.

Perhaps you hear Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf” and it takes you to a childhood performance and you “see” performers dancing about in rhythm to the music. Or maybe it’s a Bugs Bunny moment as he directs the orchestra through Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody. Or maybe you’ve never heard a piece before. In any case if you allow yourself, your mind is going to be swept away to some degree. You are entering a meditative state and you’re not even trying.

But it doesn’t have to be classical music really. It can be jazz, rock, hip hop, country or any other style or type you care to name. The fact is that for some reason human brains are very receptive to rhythmic sounds and some of mankind’s most amazing creativity is exhibited in music.

Of course, every sound is not for every person. We all have our particular tastes in music and one man’s trash is another man’s treasure to borrow a phrase. The hypnotic quality of music often will have you pulling into your driveway at the end of a work day and not even remember the ride. You are taken away to a different state while Aerosmith, Gershwin or Motley Crue play and possibly you sing along. Music, as they say, calms the savage beast, but it also soothes the modern man. And that seduction, by another name is meditation and it, like Calgon, takes us away.

With all of today’s technology, the business world is in competition, the hours you need to work are getting longer and the work is more exhausting. If there is travel involved, it is sure to add more work time and less time to relax.
In this modern life, stress is not a stranger. Stress is a big reaction from the body and is caused by not enough sleep and no distractions from work.

Managing stress in business has changed when it was made known it may be the reason humans are getting more diseases. Psychology has tried to figure out how to treat the problem and they have found those that are under stress from work are not getting rid of the used up energy in their body. If the energy can be released in a healthy way, the body can heal itself the normal way it should.

To provide workers with a positive outlook and a time for relaxing and distraction from the job, companies have formed a few things that will make a difference. They include:

It has been shown that moving around is helpful for stress. Companies have moved one step ahead to give the employees a team sport to join with. Golf is fast becoming the top sport. The tournaments that promote and motivate have been held on a regular schedule by companies. It is not uncommon to see meetings and other company activities being cared for over a game of golf. The sport of fishing is also high on the list.

Other ways to deal with stress in companies include secluded areas that are inside the building that are stress free places. There could be a gym where the workers can go to relieve stress by sweating out the problems. It could be a room that is for music, a pool for swimming, or some other sport facility. This will not only give your employees a chance to relieve some stress not only from the exercise but also from the time they save not having to work out before or after work.

When these places are not available, you can give yourself a way to deal with stress at work. Because stress causes negative things that are psychological in nature, the exercises that you can use do not need to be hard. You can try to meditate or to start yoga. Easy calisthenics and stretching exercises will help. Workers may want to take a class after work. These might be something like karate, dance, or cooking.

To provide yourself with an easy meditation routine for controlling stress at work, check below.

To begin the meditation, become comfortable with the position you would like to use for the meditation. Straighten your back, close your eyes, and let your head drop a little bit. Your arms need to be placed in front of you with the palm of your hands close to your chest but, not able to touch each other. Clear your mind of everything. Try to envision a cold drop of water going from the bottom of the skull all the way down your spine. You should begin to relax and the more you do this the easier it will be for you to deal with stress.

Cravings are natural. But for people who are on a weight loss program, it is important to control the cravings. The health experts and registered dietitian provide 10 ways to effectively control cravings.

1. Know your triggers and avoid them. Dr. Marcia Pelchat, PhD stated that people crave what they eat; so if they switch the foods they eat, they can weaken old cravings and strengthen new ones. For example, drinking bland dietary -supplement beverages instead of eating ice cream. In time, your taste buds will forget the taste of ice cream and crave for healthy supplements.
2. Discard all temptations. If, for instance you have yielded to a craving and bought a box of chocolates, destroy them or give them away.
3. Eat nuts. Drinking two glasses of water and eating an ounce of nuts-6 walnuts, 12 almonds or 20 peanuts-can effectively control your cravings.
4. Replace a candy bar with skim latte. Its caffeine will not satisfy the carvings; yet it can save you the calories.
5. Deal with your stress. It is a huge trigger for cravings. Relieve stress by breathing in and out deeply.
6. Take a nap. Cravings come at times when people are tired.
7. Take care of your teeth by regularly brushing them and gargling with mouthwash.
8. Have a healthy distraction. Recognize cravings from hunger. If it is a craving, divert attention by listening to music, meditate, do some exercise or run some errands.
9. Indulge yourself once in awhile with a small portion of ice cream on a cone. Make a bargain by burning those calories off by having a brisk walk for 15 minutes.
10. Plan and pursue. Sometimes cravings arise when we pass by a bakery or ice cream parlor. Avoid the route so to effectively not give in to cravings.

Music is a wonderful tool for inspiration as well as relaxation. If you want to get the most out of your listening experience, try musical meditation. There are many ways to do it, so find one that works best for you. If you are not sure where to begin, then consider this easy method. You may find creative inspiration or simply a way to escape the world for a short time while you relax and enjoy your favorite songs.

The Play List

The play list is completely up to you. Some people will swear by classical music or other more relaxing sounds. In reality, any music can be relaxing if it fits your preferences. Keep in mind, that certain sounds can influence your mood and creative abilities. For example, if you wish to clear your mind to come up with ideas for a new fiction novel or short story, select songs with a tone similar to what you want to write. This could be country, alternative, nu metal, or classic rock. The genre does not matter, it is all about what you get out of the sound.

In terms of relaxation, even metal or heavier music can help you work out emotions. This can have a relaxing, emotional release effect in the long term.

The Position

Set up in a relaxing position. You may choose to lay on your bed or couch, or sit upright on a pillow. Make sure you are not so comfortable that you fall asleep. The idea here is you stay awake so you can truly feel the music and consciously come up with thoughts, ideas, and emotions that will be remembered. It might be a good idea to keep a notebook and pencil close by in case you come up with a concept you simply must write down.

The Setting

When you choose your setting, make sure it is a place you can listen in complete privacy. Other people may act as strong distractions and keep you from fully immersing yourself in the sound, even if you are not speaking to the person. If others are present, go to a separate room and shut the door. Blinds and curtains should also be pulled to block out anything that may draw your attention away.

You do not want to play the music so loud you go deaf, however it must be loud enough that you can focus on it. That also means other sources of noise should be shut out. Keep the television off as well as anything else that could over power your music.

Time to Meditate

You have the play list ready, a comfortable place to listen, and no distractions. It is time to get into the song. Make sure you have a play list that is long enough to give you time to really fall into the sounds. Even if you only have a few songs, you should put them on loop or random, any mode that will allow for continuous play. If you have to get up and change tracks every so often, you will not be able to maintain focus.

Get into position, turn on the music and prepare to listen. It is also helpful to close your eyes to shut out your other senses as much as possible and focus solely on hearing. Pick out an undertone in the song. This should be an ongoing sound that is slightly buried under the rest. Follow it along, listen to how it shifts and changes. Let your mind ride it like a current.

If you have difficulty doing this at first, try an easier to follow sound. As you practice, you will get better at following more hidden undertones within the song. If the song changes, jump to a new sound. Initially, you may opt to listen to the same song a few times to get the hang of it before switching.

Mental Separation

Open yourself up to the influences of the music. Allow your consciousness to float along, keeping a firm mental grip on your chosen sound. As you do this, you may feel less aware of the world around you. Keep going until you are fully immersed. Feel any emotions the tone conveys, and let yourself do so completely. Do not think about other things, such as real life problems or commitments.

As you get better at musical meditation, you may feel inspired to write or create using whatever medium you prefer. Get the most out of the experience by harnessing the full extent of emotion your play list generates. You will feel inspired while you relax to the sounds of your favorite songs.

You must remember when being a child that due to the excitement you felt before a planned trip, it was impossible for you to sleep. Unfortunately, your sleeping problems are not today the outcome of an expected and desired journey. Problems at work or in the house keep your mind occupied and your body restless. Although you know how important it is for you to sleep during nighttime, you are convinced that you are incapable of entering the stage of dreams, especially when the thought that you must sleep and you cannot crosses your mind. Surpassing your present worries by simply counting sheep may help some but not you. You better come up with a better plan before visiting a doctor’s office.

First, take a deep breath and try to understand that sleep is your body’s time to heal. A healthy body and mind can help you overcome all those persistent problems you have to face during the day. Stop putting on a fight and realize that bed time is your chance to reboot your body’s batteries and revive your mind. Try to relax and always remember that this is a goal you can attain all by yourself.

Check the room’s temperature. The cooler it is the better are the chances you will be able to sleep sooner. Do not try to freeze to death so as to expedite the process, but rather keep the temperature at a totally comfortable level so as to avoid feeling hot, since this is proven to mess your sleeping patterns.

Keep the room dark by closing blinds and curtains. The darker the room is the less possible might be for you to feel the difference between open and closed eyes.

Invest in a comfortable and back supporting mattress. If your bed is too soft or too hard, you will probably experience greater difficulties in falling asleep and you will be waking during the night trying to find a better and more comfortable position, for your legs, back or neck.

Consider buying earplugs and an eye mask. Earplugs can isolate you from the sounds outside -or even inside- your house and an eye mask will help you block out any excess light.

Sometimes, simple things like adjusting the room temperature by turning on the AC or the fan and let a soft music theme play in the background -if you prefer listening to something pleasant- can help.

Additionally, some people suggest you should try to meditate, while others advice you to drink milk or herbal tea made from chamomile.

Keep in mind that experts agree that you should avoid consuming any large portions of food or alcohol or caffeine-based beverages, since the digestion process will take hours before it is complete and alcohol or caffeine are very effective stimulators that can mess your sleeping patterns and keep you awake for hours.

Most importantly, try to maintain a fixed sleep schedule every night, as this routine will help you fall asleep faster so as to get the appropriate amount of rest.

In case none of these suggested tips can help you establish again healthy sleeping habits, you should consider visiting a doctor. Some sleep disorders, like insomnia, require special treatment and medication.
