“Stress” affects most people especially in a negative way. Even though we want to get rid or to stay away from being inflicted with such, our routinary activities always lead us to succumb towards stress. So, how do we manage stress? What do we need to avoid this? These are just few of the phrases most of us ask often times.

Now, “WORRY NO MORE”. According to some of my readings, there are many and better ways to avoid stress. Fun and relaxation are an essential part of living a balanced life. To achieve a healthy work-life or student-life balance, it is really up to you to create boundaries that keep work or activities from intruding on the things that matter most in your life. Start by making a “concrete list” of what really matters to YOU and then adjust your priorities and schedule accordingly. Get into the habit of taking time for yourself and set aside time in your calendar for the things that are less important. Plan what you are going to do and make the necessary arrangements.

You are in charge of your own schedule; so if something is important to you it is up to you to make the TIME. Also, take BREAKS to enjoy life especially during holidays. With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, it can be difficult to find time to relax. The GOOD NEWS is that relaxation doesn’t always require 30 minutes meditation or even expensive overnight out of town getaways and escapades, as useful as they may be.

There are many things you can do during this busy time of the year to make you feel relaxed, happy and refreshed such as going for a walk, listening to your favorite music, doing some holiday arts or craft, watching a funny movie, calling a friend or a family to chat or playing with a pet. These simple tips can make your holidays more enjoyable and less stressful. Give them a “TRY” and you will know that indeed it is really effective.

Did you just encounter a particularly stressful situation? What if you are rushing a deadline and cannot walk away for the next few hours? Here are a few simple steps to manage and reduce stress without leaving your workplace!

1. Karate Breathing Meditation

This quick exercise is easy to apply and it takes only 3-10 minutes to help you relax and feel more alert! Find a quiet place where you can be alone and you can get started. All you have to do is sit in a comfortable position but keep your posture erect, shoulders relaxed and your head up, then close your eyes but be mindful to keep your eyes focused ahead. Firstly, take a deep breath, expanding your belly and hold it in for the count of six. Exhale, and repeat twice. As you breathe, keep in mind to inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth and instead of moving your shoulders up and down, expand your belly. Gently keep your thoughts from drifting towards stresses of the day and focus on your breathing in the present moment, concentrate on the air moving in and out of your body. Continue this for as long as you like and you will notice that your body is more relaxed and mind more centered and prepared.

2. Walk Away the Stress

Get out of the stressful environment and try to get some fresh air. This enables you to put a temporary physical and mental distance between you and the stressful environment and gives you some time to, quite literally, clear your head. Concentrate on the environment around you while walking and enjoy the scenery before taking time to work through problems and possible solutions as you walk. Walking also decreases the physical responses to stress such as increased heart rate. Take some time out of whatever you’re doing to take a stroll outside before going back in with a more rejuvenated mind.

3. Listen to Music

If your office permits, music can be a powerful stress relieving tool. While music like Enya’s and Kitaro’s can put your body in a more relaxed state, cheerful and fast-paced hip-hop or rock can recharge you and energize you to complete the task ahead, focusing your concentration on your work and the effects of the music.

With the above tips and strategies, it will be easier and more effective for you to deal with stress in your workplace and life.

Brainwave Entrainment Do the Best Meditations CDs Include Music?

Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The pulses elicit the brain’s ‘frequency following’ response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.

Meditation is hugely popular these days, as more and more people discover the enormous range of benefits that a regular meditation practice can bring. There are many different ways to meditate, and a lot of people find it beneficial to listen to a meditation recording. Many such recordings include music, but is this always a good idea?

The point of meditation is to deeply relax the body and mind. Many people find mental relaxation especially difficult, especially those who are new to meditating. This isn’t surprising really, as most of us have little or no experience with mind control techniques, and as a result have minds that jump around all over the place, racing from thought to thought.

The use of a meditation recording can make relaxation process much easier, because it gives the mind something to focus on. Furthermore, the actual sounds featured in such a recording can have a relaxing effect in themselves. This is why music is often included on meditation tracks; such music is typically very calm and mellow, and is specifically designed to have a calming effect on the listener.

There’s no doubt that music meditation recordings can work extremely well. But the main issue with them, at least in my experience, is that no matter how pleasant and tranquil the music is, it’s likely to become annoying with repeated listening.

Now, I’m a huge music fan, and can happily listen to music for hours on end. But meditation music is a bit different, because if you’re meditating every day (as is recommended), and you’re listening to the same meditation track regularly, then you’re not listening for pleasure, your listening for a specific purpose. And chances are, you’re not going to feel like listening to that particular music so often. If the music starts irritating you, it can become a distraction from your meditation – which is just what you don’t want.

So this is something to be aware of if you’re thinking of buying a music meditation recording. In my opinion, such recordings are better for occasional rather than regular use.

However, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take advantage of sound-based meditation recordings, as they have a huge amount to offer. Instead, it’s probably best to choose a track which features ambient sounds for regular use. These have a similarly relaxing effect, but lack the irritation factor that melodic music can cause with repeated listening. Such tracks may feature nature sounds such as running water or crackling flames, pink/brown noise or synthesised sounds that are soothing in nature.

The best meditation CDs will also include brainwave entrainment technologies such as binaural beats. These are sounds of specific frequencies which actively encourage your brain to descend into a profoundly relaxed trance state. This makes brainwave entrainment recordings especially good for those who are new to meditation, as they make it much easier to relax properly and focus your mind.
Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The pulses elicit the brain? ?requency following?response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.

This ?requency following?response of brainwave entrainment can be seen in action with those prone to epilepsy. If a strobe flashes at their seizure frequency, the brain will ?ntrain?to the flashing light, resulting in a seizure.

On the positive side, this same mechanism is commonly used to induce many brainwave states; such as a trance, enhanced focus, relaxation, meditation or sleep induction. The brainwave entrainment effectively pushes the entire brain into a certain state.

Brainwave entrainment works for almost everyone. It is a great way to lead your mind into states that you might usually have difficulty reaching, allowing you to experience what those states feel like.

THE HYPE
There is a lot of marketing hype around brainwave entrainment. It is sold with promises of increasing IQ, promoting weight loss, ?ind-tripping? enhancing creativity, concentration, inducing spiritual states and more.

While these claims are not entirely true, they are not altogether false either. In practice, the claims are based on an overly-simplistic view of how the brain and the brainwaves function.
THE RUB
People are very seldom deficient in a certain brainwave type in all areas of their brain. Usually the distribution is much spottier, with an excess in one area and a deficiency in another.

We are all different, especially when it comes to the distribution of our brainwaves. Boosting a certain brainwave state may be beneficial for one person, and emotionally uncomfortable for another. Without knowing each person? starting position, entrainment can be rather ?it and miss?

If brainwave entrainment leaves you with unwanted side-effects (see below) or discomfort, you?e probably encouraging a range of brainwaves that are already excessive in some area of your brain. The way around this is to get a brain map to see what your brain? strengths and weaknesses are, and see what (if any) brainwaves could use some encouragement.

What could be worse – not being able to get to sleep, or not being able to stay asleep? I’m not sure, but a disrupted night’s sleep feels awful, dampening your enthusiasm for the day, and hampering your creativity. By the end of the day you can’t wait to crawl back under the covers; except that you know that, like most other nights, just being in the bed hasn’t help stop you staring at the ceiling, tossing and turning.

So what’s going on? Lets look at the major reasons why people can’t get a refreshing sleep

Checklist item One: Are you exercising enough?

Lack of exercise. Although you may feel tired, a fitness training session may be just what you need to burn off some stress. Counter-intuitive as it sounds, using up energy in exercise will actually give you energy. For people who have trouble sleeping, the best time of day for training may be afternoon. Why? Its all to do with cortisol.

Cortisol is a hormone produced by your adrenal glands that helps wake you up in the morning. Your body’s cortisol production should peak between 6-8am, then decline slowly through to the evening. As night falls and your cortisol levels drop further, then melatonin (the hormone that helps you fall asleep) is released by the pituitary gland in your brain. In the morning the reverse happens: melatonin secretion declines as cortisol helps wake you up. (Light helps wake you up too, but that’s another story)

People who are feeling stressed tend to have higher circulating levels of cortisol. They need to burn it off to get to sleep; and exercise will do just that.

People who are exhausted when they wake but get a burst of energy late at night (when they really should be asleep) can sometimes be suffering adrenal fatigue, where their cortisol production has become exhausted. This condition requires professional treatment.

Checklist Item Two: Do you have a wind-down routine?

A winding-down routine may help you get to sleep. That means switching off the computer, the television, and going through a routine like stretching, meditation, peaceful music. These kind of activities will give your brain the message that its time to stop for the day. A regular bed time and regular wake up time helps too. Your internal body clock will gradually adjust to the steady routine.

Checklist Item Three: How much caffeine are you taking in?

Watch out that caffeine, the ‘wake up’ drug found in coffee and energy drinks, isn’t keeping you awake. If you think it might be, try stopping all caffeine at midday and see if you find it easier to get to sleep over the next few days.

So there’s your checklist for improving your sleep: Regular exercise, a regular sleep time and wind down routine, and avoiding caffeine. Good luck!

Listing the causes of stress is tricky to say the least. A stress condition can be real or perceived, and it is solely dependent on the individual. Some of the basic common reasons are:

Life’s Situations

Attitude

Could by your genes

Smoking

Work

Commuting

Finances

Low self esteem

Regardless of the cause, stress starts certain changes in the body that are designed to give it a quick burst of energy, the body goes through the following changes when faced with a stressful situation:

-The adrenal glands release adrenaline and stress hormones that trigger certain organs to go into action.

-Your breathing becomes faster and more shallow which creates the body to take in more oxygen.

-The liver releases more blood sugar to provide more energy.

-The heart beats faster and blood pressure rises to increase the oxygen and nutrients throughout the body.

-Blood flow to the brain and muscles is increased and reduced to the digestive organs.

So each time there is a stress situation this is what our bodies go through, then if there is chronic stress the body stays in high alert and that is when we get high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, damaged blood vessels, decreased mental skills, weakened immune system, heart disease, inflammation in the body, drinking, over eating, depression and headaches.

What we need to do is identify our individual cause of stress, and be specific, make a list; don’t just say it is my job or it is my relationship or it is my kids. Get really specific because the next step is to list ways of reducing that stress, so the more specific you can be on your identifying list the easier it will be to list ways of reducing it.

The list for reduction of stress could go a little like this:

Meditate daily

Take a walk on lunch hour

Take a walk in the evenings

Do deep breathing exercises during the day

Go to bed earlier and make it your sanctuary

Take at least 30 minutes a day just for you

Listen to motivation tapes or music on your commute

Eat healthy organic foods

Go on an anti-inflammatory diet

Yoga

Progressive Muscle Relaxation

Guided imagery

Laughing

Making love

Long relaxing bath with candles and music

I am sure you can make your own list, it is fun to think of the ways you can make your self happy and joyful and lead you into a less stressful life…go play and find your own ways….

A lady once asked me how much time she should spend meditating. When I said, “about 15-20 minutes 2 or 3 times a day,” her eyes widened and she said that she didn’t have that much spare time in her busy day.

I asked her how much time she spent each day watching TV,

How much time she spent listening to the radio or music,

how much she spoke on the phone,

how much she spent reading books and newspapers,

how much she spent on hobbies and other pastimes such as going to the gym,

how much time she spent surfing the web & reading emails,

how much time she spent cooking & cleaning,

how much time she spent sleeping (some people sleep too much),

how much time she spent socialising and chatting to friends.

It turned out that she couldn’t possibly shave-off some time from all her other tasks to give a few minutes to one of the healthiest pursuits for mind and body ever devised.

One interesting thing about meditation is that when you get into the routine of doing it, 20 minutes can pass in a flash.

Often times I’ve sat down to do my meditation, set my timer for 20 minutes, (I use the timer on my phone) closed my eyes, and after about what feels like 5 minutes hear the timer beeping.

“That can’t possibly be 20 minutes,” I think, but when I check the clock, 20 minutes has definitely passed.

Also the time spent meditating is returned to you many times over. You can get more things done in the same time. Things seem to go smoother with fewer hitches.

When you meditate regularly, life is easier.

We all have desires. We all want things. We all need social interaction and companionship and we all seek these things. But have you ever wondered why you have these desires?

Do you truly believe that the desire itself is what you are wanting or can you see that it is the feeling that this desire will give you that is your real driving force?

What we are all really wanting is the feeling of happiness. We all want to be happy. We think that having more stuff, money, better relationships or whatever, will bring us happiness. So would you be interested in by-passing the middle-man and just feeling happy for no reason? If you want to feel happier more of the time then I’m sure you will be interested in the sound technology known as binaural beats!

Welcome to the world of binaural beats!

Feeling happy happens in the mind. We have all heard the old saying “one man’s meat is another man’s poison”. This simple little statement really does encapsulate the difference between people in the world. One situation, event or thing can be a blessing to one person yet a curse to another. For example leaving in a one-bedroom apartment may be bad for an American family of 4 but for a family of 6 living on the streets of Calcutta it would be a blessing.

However, as human beings we all share things in common. One such thing is our brains. We all have the same type of mental hardware – our brains – and all brains work in similar ways. Although we may hold different views and have different attitudes towards things in life and the world our brains work in very specific ways – that are common to all us of humans.

Scientists have worked very hard to create a new sound technology called binaural beats. These binaural beats can induce specific brainwaves in the listener to create very specific mental, emotional and physical states.

For many years now scientists have been working to identify the brainwave patterns that are associated with many different emotional, mental and physical states. Scientists have identified almost all of these states and the brainwaves that are associated with them. Knowing these brainwave patterns is great for science but I’m sure you think it doesn’t really have any meaning for you. It is once we introduce the technology of binaural beats that this information becomes of real practical value.

Knowing which brainwave patterns create which emotional states, from anger to love & happiness, it is possible to create these brainwave patterns by using binaural beats. Binaural beats can be used to create deep relaxation, aid restful sleep, produce more creative ideas, and retain more information and a multitude of other things. Are you aware that binaural beats can even be used to create the exact brainwave patterns that have been shown to release endorphins in the body to relax you and make you feel happy?

What’s more if these binaural beats are used regularly for about 30 days the new brainwave patterns become a permanent feature for you. Now this is not to say you will be walking around happy all the time. The brainwave states associated with happiness that you have developed through the use of binaural beats just becomes a habit. So, just as you can get into the habit of feeling sad, or looking at the negative side of life, you can also get into the habit of feeling happy and looking for the positive in everything – all through the use if binaural beats!

To gain this increase in positive feelings in your life, through binaural beats, all you have to do is listen to some special sounds through stereo headphones and watch as your life begins to change!

These spells will work wonders and will also enhance commitment and happiness in a relationship with a named lover. But you have to use a Wiccan Love Spell with extreme caution as, lack of genuineness/seriousness and sincerity of feelings/wishes can have an adverse effect.

Wiccan Love Spell for attracting love

To remove hurdles and obstacles that prevent being eyed out by a wonderful lover and to open out your heart, you can use this simple Wiccan Love Spell. This magic spell has to be performed in total tranquility after creating the necessary time and space.

It involves taking an herb scented shower or bath. You have to first pour sufficient amount of rose essential oil over natural sea salt or bath salt. Take a handful of bath salt. Then you have to run the hot bath. Mix in the water with the salt and essential oil mix. Listen to inspiring music while enjoying your relaxing bath. Now you have got to dress up in clean clothes.

Wear your favorite outfit.

Then light scented or aromatic candles and incense and arrange multi colored flowers to facilitate the arrival of a new lover in your life. Create a Wiccan altar by placing a clean piece of cloth on table. Then arrange pink or red flowers on this altar. It is best to go for scented roses. Then you have to arrange 4 red or green candles in 4 corners of the altar in each cardinal direction – west, east, south and north. If colored candles are unavailable, you may safely use white candles.

On the altar, you have to next place 1 piece of rose quartz.

Take a suitable container and burn love incense in it. Place the container on a charcoal disk. Some of the ideal herbs are frankincense, lavender or rose or you may settle for a store bought mix of love incense.

Then you have to loudly declare your heartfelt desire for love with full sincerity. Speak in a language in which you are most comfortable. Then you have to meditate for a few minutes. After your meditation is over, you should extinguish the incense and candles.

This Wiccan Love Spell will bring a wonderful lover into your life.

Yoga is known for its calming and stress-reducing benefits. However, if you’re new to yoga and have never taken a class before, not knowing what to expect can have you feeling a bit nervous. Relax! We’re here to guide you every step of the way so you get the most out of every class.

For our beginners, we suggest taking our Gentle Yoga class. This class is designed to give you the time and support to understand the proper alignment of yoga postures and breathing techniques. It’s also perfect for people with joint or back pain.

While most people are familiar with the basic principles of yoga, many aren’t sure how they should prepare and what a typical class entails. To give you some peace of mind before your first class, here are some tips on what you can expect as well as some common yoga misconceptions.

What to wear

Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothes. You’ll be bending and stretching a lot, so wearing clothes that are constricting should be avoided as they will hinder your movements. Remember, this isn’t a yoga fashion show; you don’t need to buy designer yoga outfits.

What to bring

Bring a yoga mat, a towel and water. If you tend to get cold, bring a blanket to use during the relaxation sequence. Leave your music and ear buds behind, however, as you will need to listen to your instructor throughout the entire class.

Sequence of the class

Most yoga instructors begin class with a warm up of some kind. This can include simple poses, as well as meditation and reflection. Next, he or she will lead the class in a series of poses.

If you’re concerned about not being able to perform some of the poses, don’t worry. Most poses have varying degrees of difficulty and can be easily modified for beginners. Often, the instructor will be available to show examples of modified poses and to help you get into proper position.

The class usually ends with a period of relaxation to unwind and release any lingering tension.

Misconceptions about yoga:

Myth: To practice yoga you have to be: flexible, thin, physically fit and young.

Reality: There are no rules, no expectations, and no judgments in yoga. Everyone can benefit from practicing yoga – regardless of their level of fitness, age and flexibility. With practice, yoga poses (asanas) actually help you to become more flexible and physically stronger. Poses work by safely stretching your muscles and increasing the range of motion in joints. Yoga stretches not only your muscles but all of the soft tissues of your body. That includes ligaments, tendons, and the fascia sheath that surrounds your muscles. No matter your level of yoga, you most likely will see benefits in a very short period of time. In one study, participants had up to 35% improvement in flexibility after only eight weeks of yoga.

Myth: I won’t be able to keep up with the others in class.

Reality: Yoga is non-competitive. You may think many people are “better than you” at yoga, but don’t let these negative thoughts deter you. It’s important not to compare yourself to the person next to you. Some people are naturally more flexible. So be forgiving with your body and know that flexibility comes with repetition.

Everything you do in life, you do while in a “state.” Sometimes this can be referred to as your “mood”. People say stuff like “I wasn’t in the mood” or “I’ll get around to it when I’m in the mood.” Our state or mood is mostly created unconsciously but it can be consciously triggered when we learn how.

In order to read your Angel cards it’s helpful to get yourself into a particular “state”. It’s common sense that in order to hear the guidance from the Angels your mind must be quiet, if you are anxious, worried or upset then you may misinterpret or react badly to a particular card and miss the guidance that is being given. So, it makes sense to be in a state of peace before and during reading your cards.

You can do this in many ways. To prepare you could have a warm bath, listen to a meditation, listen to music, maybe some classical or spiritual music. You could go for a walk to relax your mind and body. Exercise is always a good way to let go of tension and gain equilibrium in the mind and body.

Learn what works best for you, write down what you enjoy doing to relax and plan a process of getting into the “state” most helpful to sitting quietly and contemplating your communication with the Angels.

When you’ve set the scene for your “state” of being, you can then work on the energy of the room where you’ll be reading your cards. You can do this by lighting a candle or candles, playing some music, maybe using a special cloth for your table that you only use for your readings, maybe burning some incense. You could also use a sage smudge stick to ensure there are only positive vibes in there.

The benefits of creating your state and preparing your environment is amazing. Not only will you feel good about listening and understanding the Angels but the communications will be clearer. You’ll establish if there is more to learn and use the cards in discovering this. Most importantly the connection established with the Angels will be stronger, fueling your belief in these amazing energies, and supporting you to contact them with challenges and issues in all areas of your life.
