Brainwave Entrainment Brain Waves – All You Need to Know

Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The pulses elicit the brain’s ‘frequency following’ response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.

In 1929 Mr. Hans Berger measured, using EEG, the frequency of brain waves. He discovered that after the patient closed his eyes, the waves frequency dropped to 8-12 Hz. He called those waves Alpha. As the time went on, more types of brain waves were measured and named. The connection between frequency of brain waves and certain activities and states was discovered. The four main types of brain waves are :

Beta – the frequency between 14 and about 30 Hz. It’s the most common state of mind, most of daily activities are preformed then.

Alpha – the frequency between 7 and 14 Hz. In this state of mind we experience daydreams, dreams, light trance.

Theta – the frequency between 4 and 8 Hz. The state of strong emotional sensitivity (hammer your finger and you’ll reach theta so your brain can properly sense the pain), trance, meditation and sleep.

Delta – frequency below 4 Hz. Very hard and rare to reach it consciously. State of deep sleep.

Nice, we got the theory behind us. Hope you read it 😉 Let’s get to the details.

How do I know what kind of brain wave I achieve? Can it be proven, even to myself?

I used to read about it, practice visualization, concentration and achieving an altered state of consciousness just for the sake of changing brain waves frequency. It is a useful skill if you know how and when to use it. I also thought about it. I claim that I know which sort of brain waves I’m achieving because it makes logical sense and fits together. I just compare the feeling of certain brain waves achieved through practice to the feeling I got when achieving it naturally. Theta = watching an important moment of good movie, alpha = closing your eyes while tired or calm (theta if very tired) and high frequency beta when strongly focused. I feel tired if I keep high frequency beta too long so I know it’s different than usual beta.

It’s not a big deal to achieve Beta state. You just did when you started reading. However it wouldn’t hurt to know how to get a bit higher frequency. It happens when you concentrate on one specific thing (e.g. monitor in front of you) or concentrate on perceiving as many things as you can at the moment (see all the objects on your desk and hear all the noise at once). I’m at strong beta while performing my telekinesis experiment (more about it soon)

It’s easy to achieve Alpha state too. Just close your eyes and relax. Unless you focus on what your other (then sight) senses perceive and think creatively about something(2+2=?), you’ll reach the Alpha brainwaves. If you want to reach Alpha with your eyes open, relax and let the picture blur. If you don’t want the picture to blur, relax every muscle instead of ones needed to perceive the image. It requires some practice and self-control.

Theta state is a little more tricky. If you achieve it consciously, any sound from your surroundings will bring you back to Alpha. It was “invented” so our caveman ancestors would survive in the wild ;). In this state you forget about where you are and what you’re doing. Your consciousness limits to your thoughts. You can reach this state by many forms of meditations or auto-hypnosis. As far as I know the easiest way to do it is to close your eyes in comfortable position and imagine you’re in elevator going down, stepping down the stairs, falling, counting down or whatever you want as long as it has something to do with going down.

Delta state is reachable by deep relaxation and meditation. I don’t think I ever succeeded in getting that far (I got noisy surroundings almost all the time). My idea on how to reach it is to lay down and don’t move a muscle. Relax and slowly count down from thousand to zero. If you get distracted by random thoughts you’ll probably stay in theta or fall asleep. Also, it’s hard to keep your body still. This can be performed only when you’re restless or you will quickly fall asleep. It takes some practice and requires silence. As for how to be restless, I don’t recommend coffee or other chemical boosters. Coffee would make you feel hotter the usual and you’d have a hard time keeping your body still. You can have a shower and do some exercise after you wake up. That should make you restless enough.

Why would I want to be able to shift my brain waves?

The more you perceive the slower (seemingly) time goes. When you’re bored and can’t wait for the end of whatever your torture is, just get to alpha with your eyes open. I find that really useful in school ;). Beta state will increase your productiveness at work because you’re less likely to find your thoughts wandering. Theta state is useful when you want to let your brain rest. Sometimes your head is just pounding after all that work you’ve done.
Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The pulses elicit the brain? ?requency following?response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.

This ?requency following?response of brainwave entrainment can be seen in action with those prone to epilepsy. If a strobe flashes at their seizure frequency, the brain will ?ntrain?to the flashing light, resulting in a seizure.

On the positive side, this same mechanism is commonly used to induce many brainwave states; such as a trance, enhanced focus, relaxation, meditation or sleep induction. The brainwave entrainment effectively pushes the entire brain into a certain state.

Brainwave entrainment works for almost everyone. It is a great way to lead your mind into states that you might usually have difficulty reaching, allowing you to experience what those states feel like.

THE HYPE
There is a lot of marketing hype around brainwave entrainment. It is sold with promises of increasing IQ, promoting weight loss, ?ind-tripping? enhancing creativity, concentration, inducing spiritual states and more.

While these claims are not entirely true, they are not altogether false either. In practice, the claims are based on an overly-simplistic view of how the brain and the brainwaves function.
THE RUB
People are very seldom deficient in a certain brainwave type in all areas of their brain. Usually the distribution is much spottier, with an excess in one area and a deficiency in another.

We are all different, especially when it comes to the distribution of our brainwaves. Boosting a certain brainwave state may be beneficial for one person, and emotionally uncomfortable for another. Without knowing each person? starting position, entrainment can be rather ?it and miss?

If brainwave entrainment leaves you with unwanted side-effects (see below) or discomfort, you?e probably encouraging a range of brainwaves that are already excessive in some area of your brain. The way around this is to get a brain map to see what your brain? strengths and weaknesses are, and see what (if any) brainwaves could use some encouragement.

This week is Valentine’s week and the TV commercials and the media are blasting us with tips and deals on flowers, candy, romantic getaways and aphrodisiac foods. But there are many today that will be spending Valentine’s day alone, and even those that have made a deliberate decision to be on their own right now may get a little bummed out with this overdose of “love” suggestions. For those that are not excited to have to explain what you are doing on Valentine’s Day to others, I hope that this article will give you some comfort. There has been many a day throughout my years when I was that person who dreaded having to explain my single status on Valentine’s Day and then later having to hear all the wonderful stories from my friends on how “great” their Valentine’s Day was. So, on this Valentine’s Day, whether you decide to announce this to others or not, I encourage you to spend this day of love celebrating with the person to who love can only originate for you, and that is with you.

For starters, I am a very spiritual person, and having a spiritual perspective on Love can be a positive game changer, but for now I will hold my spiritual perspective until the very end of this article and focus on the practical and logical side of celebrating a day of love with your primary source of love, you.

Love is a very misunderstood and misleading emotion. Many people that “love” each other are really in love with what the other person in their lives can do for them. I’m not implying people are devious or deceptive, only that it is human nature to externalize the cause of our emotions out to others. This is true of all emotions, anger, fear, irritation, disgust and so on. We have a tendency to “blame” bad feelings on the actions of others and then we tend to “credit” others with feelings of happiness and love. When it comes to love, the reasons we give credit to others for feeling love are varied and usually multiple. We love our spouses/lovers because they provide us security, and validate our identity, sexuality, or importance. We also enjoy their companionship, camaraderie, and connection. Our spouses/lovers elevate our status in humanity by telling the world, “Look – I am lovable.” Many times our spouses fill very practical roles in our lives, like providing income, or skills that we do not have, like marrying a handy guy, or marrying a good cook.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with any of these reasons for falling in love or being in love, except this: – If you cannot feel loved and whole without the other “person” in your life, then you are operating with a subtle and potentially heartbreaking dependency on someone else. Furthermore, if you feel that your life would be lost, empty, meaningless, or not worth living without your significant other, you are literally giving away one of your most amazing assets of being human, which is authentic and individual freedom. You become a prisoner in your own love choices. And don’t forget, if you are in a relationship because of what someone is giving to you for your validation and approval, so likely is your significant other.

Relationships are wonderful, fulfilling and can be extremely personally empowering. Relationships should be a safe haven for examining our personal limitations and growing within an environment of love and support. Having someone to grow with can be exceptionally gratifying. However, if part of the relationship is not examining personal and collective habits and behaviors to identify areas for growth, including those that lean towards a co-dependency on the other partner, then the relationship may be in store for some serious challenges.

When you think about love deeply, you realize that in order to have a healthy, fulfilling, and thrilling relationship; you must have deep love for both people in the relationship. Not an ego-maniacal narcissistic love, but a genuine love, admiration, and respect for each party. This is not the way most relationships start out unfortunately. In fact, the primary reason we look for love is because we feel we are lacking in some way and we want to other person to fill that need within us.

So, what does all this have to do with spending Valentine’s Day alone? Only to provide a background for why a day designated for “love” can be such an opportunity to honor the person you can always count on being there for you with love, which is yours truly. Isn’t it time to nurture and develop a strong relationship with the one side of any relationship that you have control over, yourself? Tune out the noise of the media and commercials and spend this week in deep contemplation and meditation about loving yourself. Deepen your meaning of love to include respecting yourself enough to know that you have things you need to do better, that you have made mistakes, and that in order to complete yourself, you have to come to terms with all of that. Work on forgiveness towards yourself and practice compassion.

Before I give you a few bullet points on developing and strengthening a love for self, let me just close this part of the article with a little spiritual insight as well. At a spiritual level, you are love. The idea of you, the essence of who you really are, your soul, IS love. We may not sense this due to things like commercials, media, tough times in the past, or general negative outlooks on life – but it is true and spending a little time nurturing this love, in a spiritual sense, can be life altering. As you probably already have heard, Love (notice how this is capitalized to represent Divine Love), is unconditional. This means that despite your past choices, you are still an idea made of love. This will never change about you; the only thing that you have a choice about is whether you accept this or now. Love yourself at a deeper spiritual level and celebrate your connection to ALL, not just to a special someone that may come along later. This week and in weeks to come, celebrate Love.

Do not sit at home sucking it up. Plan a fun evening for yourself doing something that only YOU would love. This might mean a night of reading, going to a movie only you could appreciate, indulging in a special meal or desert, taking a long walk or getting a massage. Stay away from emotion agitators, like alcohol, drugs, excessive eating, sad music and movies. Honor yourself with a special celebration.

Start a habit of reciting (out loud or in your head) affirmations of self-love. You have probably been doing a lot of self-depreciating self-speak for quite some time. Initially, your self-love affirmations may seem awkward, but keep at them. Talk to yourself in the mirror. Affirmations that are meaningful to you – work. But to make them meaningful, you have to be persistent in the practice. Pick out two or three good ones and keep up the good chatter.

Develop two or three new habits that serve you and honor your higher self. Commit to learn a new skill, learn a new topic of interest, make a plan of action for a creative project, consider a weekly outing to a place or activity you love (bookstore, antique store, shooting range, fishing).

Practice daily forgiveness and compassion to yourself. Please do not misunderstand these with unaccountability and pity. Study these concepts and learn to truly let go of the past and learn from your mistakes. Compassion is accepting that you did your best at any moment and accepting yourself completely as you are.

Do something nice for someone or do an act of service. Nothing promotes a sense of love all around like expressing love unconditionally. Volunteer at a dog shelter or any charity of your choice, buy the person behind you at your coffee shop their coffee, visit your parents or an aging relative showing up with some hand-picked wildflowers, give all your office mates a Valentine Thank You for being You note, buy your pet a new toy or a special treat. Don’t ever be afraid of giving away love. The more you give and the more you don’t expect any return, the more you get… It’s a hard one but boy, once you can do it, truly unconditionally, it is so freeing!!!

Think about yourself as more than a brain attached to a body with a few personality traits attached. You are soooo much more than this. You are a divine being. Begin to see yourself as a divine entity first, that has a body and a mind. Act from your higher being.

Remember YOU are a source of love. We cannot depend on anyone else to love us, especially when we cannot love ourselves first. I know this is an overused cliché “to love yourself first”, but in this case there is some universal wisdom in this saying. Be the person you know you can be, always.

The thought of the holiday season makes most people’s anxiety and stress level rise. The season holds lots of activity which will include list making, frantic shopping, house decorating, food shopping, cooking, family frictions, post office line waiting, cleaning the house, and a longer list of other unavoidable chores to endure. Before you start to feel exhausted by holiday season frenzy, learn to love yourself by having more respect and esteem for yourself. Create a healthy attitude in knowing that the more you treat yourself kindly, the more your whole family benefits.

Taking more “me” time during this season is highly recommended. It’s an act of love that nourishes your soul. Wanting a break from parenting, work, and holiday whirl is justified, and you shouldn’t feel guilty. Don’t ever suppress your own needs. Your health is to a large extent controlled by the circulation of your blood. When your emotions are enthused by something you do, then it stands to reason that your heart is stimulated and that makes you feel alive and helps you enjoy a sunny disposition.

Here are some ideas that will shake up your old ways, create time, and allow you to remember your own well-being.

1. During the holiday season, get up earlier than everyone else in the house and sip that cup of coffee, tea or hot cocoa, sit down with a crossword puzzle, look out the window and savor the time alone.

2. When your child takes a nap, instead of packing presents to mail to relatives, try some slow lunges or jump rope and do pushups for 30 seconds. Stand on your tippy-toes and stretch your entire body. It not only feels good, but it is great for your mind and body. Relax. You can pack the gifts later. Or take a cat-nap yourself!

3. Hand your child over to your husband, baby-sitter, friendly neighbor, or relative and take time out to take a walk around the block, wander leisurely through stores while shopping for yourself, take a bubble bath, take the dog for a nature walk, have a color analysis done on your hair, your make up done by an expert, go to a spa, get a massage, or any activity you fancy will make your heart dance and sing.

4. Create a one hour date time with your friends this month. Do whatever you all agree will be fun and enlivening.

5. Try having a “do-nothing day” in the middle of the holiday season. Watch movies, listen to soothing music, burn some fragrant smelling incense, prepare your favorite foods. And remember this is the day where there are no phone calls allowed, no shopping trips, no errands ran and absolutely no stress permitted. On this special day you can take a walk on the beach, sip fresh lemonade, blow bubbles in your yard, take a ride in the countryside, and gratefully and gently pamper yourself.

6. Treat yourself to nicely scented flowers. Purchase flowers with a deep, rich smell such as roses, carnations, lilacs, hyacinth and gardenias. Smell the fragrance of jasmine, lavender and marjoram. The bright colors and scent will bring you feelings of joy and create a good-mood flow.

7. Create an extra hour each day for yourself by going to bed later. Use this time to relax, write in your journal and meditate. This is the best time of all to really feel “me” time.

Life is a gift to be used every day,
Not to be smothered and hidden away,
It isn’t a thing to be stored in the chest
Where you gather your keepsakes and treasure your best;
It isn’t a joy to be sipped now and then
And promptly put back in a dark place again.

Life is a gift that the humblest may boast of
And one that the humblest may well make the most of.
Get out and live it each hour of the day,
Wear it and use it as much as you may;
Don’t keep it in niches and corners and grooves,
You’ll find that in service its beauty improves.

Edgar A Guest

And remember, whatever you do in life, do it with love! Choose to make your family’s life and your life a journey packed with good thoughts, good feelings and good memories this holiday season. Happy Holidays Everyone!

Ever wonder how ‘they’ do it? You know the ones, they are positive, always see the glass as half full, and no matter what the situation, they can always find a positive thing to pull from it. How do they do it? What is different in their day to day thinking that allows them to see the good in all?

I have watched, spoken to, listened to, and studied many leaders, who seem to stay positive, and professionals who make it their business to keep in the right frame of mind. I have pulled some bits of advice and information that is free to implement, and some may even save you some money.

One of the most giving things we can do for ourselves is to discover different ways to stay positive throughout the year. I know there are times when I just feel the weight of the world on my shoulders and, I’ll be honest with you, last year was probably one of the most challenging years I’ve ever experienced. But having these outlets really serves to remind me that, in the long run, things are ok.

So, when I started thinking about this topic, the old saying by Timothy Leary came to mind. “Turn On, Tune In, And Drop Out”.

By doing these three things in a variety of ways you really can change your thinking and, truly, your life. I’m going to kind of go out of order with the saying so, Mr. Leary, where ever you are, please forgive me.

I’d like to start with Tuning In:

Now the brain is amazing, and even though we don’t consciously register everything that is being presented to the brain in the way of sights, sounds, etc, our subconscious does register it. Some things we’re just so used to doing we don’t even register what we are doing, and that allows some pretty negative messages to get through.

So let’s start by tuning in to what messages ARE around us, and what we are receiving. Here are a few examples:

Do you watch the news? Lots of good, happy stuff with that, isn’t there? Do you read the paper? More good news, on every page. What do you watch on tv? Crime shows? Reality shows? What are your casual conversations like? What about the magazines you read?

Now, starting immediately, I invite you to go through the day and really pay attention to your actions. How do you talk to yourself? Others? How do you think about others, or yourself? What shows do you watch every night? What is the last thing you read or listen to or watch before going to bed?

Take some time, be aware. That alone may change your life. Once we actually tune in and become aware of where we need to work on staying positive, then we can!

Drop Out:

Now most of you may very well have done a quick once over of your day in those past few moments as you read those examples, looking to see where the weak spots are. Here are the big ones and some of the hardest ones to let go.

1. Stop watching the news. I’m not saying never ever watch the news anymore, but really, in the morning, and evening, every day is really unnecessary, as well as reading the paper, and check on the internet, and so on. Once a week or so is probably more than enough. It’s been a proven fact that bad news sells, so it’s what is focused on. Almost every expert I have come across who is involved in attitude adjustment, time management, and so on have made this the number one change to make, and to make it immediately. Stop watching.

If you feel you absolutely need to get a dose of daily news, a great website I found recently is http://www.goodnewsnetwork.org It’s news that you won’t read in the newspaper for the most part because it’s good news, but it’s such a breath of fresh air, and helps you to realize there are good things happening in the world.

Along those same lines..

2. Get rid of cable. Better yet, get rid of your television altogether. Now for those who just shut down at that thought, take a deep breath and stay with me here. Trust me, I understand the want for the entertainment. I really do. But for the most part, the programming is unnecessary and a waste of time if it dominates your entire evening. Get rid of it. Think of the money you’ll save.

If you can’t handle totally getting rid of the television, then just get rid of the cable. At least drop down to basic cable, and I mean basic cable, not the option of 75 channels or more. I know, it will be rough at first, you will more than likely go through withdrawals, I know I did when I couldn’t watch some of the programs I had adjusted to watching on a regular basis, but you really will feel the cobwebs clear out of your head after a while. If nothing else, you can sign up for something like Netflix or Blockbuster and get movies in the mail and online.

3. Steer clear of negative conversations, including the ones you have with yourself. If you find the conversation drifting towards being catty, or constant complaining, and we’ve all done it, stop yourself. These are habits that need to be broken, and a great way to help stop the habit is to wear a rubber band around your wrist. Whenever, you feel the conversation heading in that direction, or you are hard on yourself, snap that band. It will remind you that you are someone who wants to grow in a positive manner and those conversations that tear down someone else or yourself are not allowed anymore.

I’ve discovered these days that if I do start becoming involved in a negative conversation, I can actually feel a sense of poisoning and discomfort in myself during the conversation. I know then that it’s time to check the conversation and adjust accordingly.

This leads us right into..

4. Keep your distance from dreamstealers, and crazymakers. We all know who they are in our live. They are the ones who say, ‘that sounds too hard to do.’ Or, ‘Why would you want to do that??’ Now, you don’t have to disown them, just distance yourself a little. Your dreams, goals, and ambitions are important to you and to others in this world. You absolutely do not need someone who is threatened by your ambition to be constantly attempting to quietly sabotage your efforts, whether their intentions are well meaning or not. They are, hands down, the quickest reason we give up our dreams and goals. Tell your dreams and goals to people who will support them, not tear them down.

After the cleansing, the out with the bad, we want to fill the space with good things. Things that will lift us up, and take us higher. This brings us to the final part…turning on. This is my favorite part, because replacing all the icky stuff in your head and heart with the good stuff just feels so nice.

1. Be grateful. Not just at dinner during grace, not just at bedtime during prayer, but all day. Allow thanskgiving to be more than just one day out of the year in your life. A great exercise I do, which is from the book Ask & It is Given by Esther & Jerry Hicks, is called the “Rampage of Gratitude”, and here is how it works:

At any point, but especially during an upset moment, take a quick look around where you immediately are, and find something you are thankful for at that moment. It can be the wedding band on your finger, it can be the shoes on your feet, the car you are driving, the baby you’re holding, etc. Recognize why you appreciate it and give thanks. Here’s an example:

The other night I was sitting in bed and having an especially rough night. I won’t go into details, but let’s just say it was one of those nights where you just want to hide. As I sat in bed I remembered the exercise. I looked around the room, and then I thought, ‘I love my bed. It’s big, it’s soft and warm, and is such a heavenly retreat. I am so grateful to have this bed.’

It’s as simple as that. Soon, you’ll find yourself noticing all sorts of little things to be grateful for, without even thinking about it.

2. Listen to music. It is scientifically proven that music has an effect on your mood. There is a great book called, ‘This is Your Brain On Music’ that writes about the physical reaction our body has when it comes to music. Music can enhance your mood. Get yourself an I-pod, an mp3, a cd player, whatever, and burn some of your absolutely favorite uplifting songs that you have and listen to it. Regularly.

Now with this, you need to remember the ‘tuning in’ rule of be mindful of what you are listening to. If the lyrical content is that of a negative origin, it kind of defeats the purpose. Remember, you want to lift yourself up, not bring yourself down.

Find what fills your heart and soul, musically, and listen to it on a regular basis. Play it loudly and dance. Belt that song out! Let those endorphins rush around!

3. Subscribe to positive daily messages. Let the first things you see when you log into your email is an uplifting message, or thought provoking message that puts you on the right track for the day.

Now there are so many different ones you can subscribe to, but some of my favorites are Bob Proctor, Abraham-Hicks, and Brian Tracy. One of my absolute favorite ones is from Mike Dooley, and he writes them from the perspective of the Universe. I print out quite a few of these and post them. That website it http://www.tut.com and it’s called ‘notes from the universe.’ I also subscribe to one called the Daily Word, which is on a more spiritual plane.

It’s so nice to be able to go to my email in the morning and the first emails I see are those that remind me how great things are.

4. Associate with people who are where you want to be. You Want to be a high up in your networking company? Find your highest upline and get to know them. I remember when someone gave me this challenge last year They said, ‘To you want to be successful? Then go find a success story in your town and call that person up.’ So I did. I called him up, and chatted with him for a while. I’m not kidding. I wanted to know what was important to him, how he got to where he is, and so on. It’s as easy as that. You’ll discover these people these people are always willing to help.

Associating with people who are where you want to be helps you expand your mind and grow. You are able to see a different perspective from people who have done what you want to do. Again, this doesn’t mean you have to get rid of all your current friends, family, etc. You never know when you might find your mentor among those new friends.

5. Go to what fills you, spiritually. For some that can be church, for others meditation, it’s your life, only you can make that connection. And here’s what I mean by that. I’m a trail runner, and years ago I used to live by a trail that I would run on regularly that would take me right by a church. I remember running by the church on Sunday, seeing all the parishioners filing into the church, and thinking, ‘that’s their church, this is mine.’ Being outdoors on those crisp mornings, on the trail with the long blades of grass, drinking in the fresh air was what connected me to my source and allowed me to come alive and be in the moment.

These days, I have discovered a spiritual community that gives me the same feeling. I encourage you to do the same. Doing this really helps lift you on those hard days.

6. Help others. Now, perhaps you just had an immediate thought of, ‘I work full time! I have children! Where do you expect me to carve out time to volunteer?!’ Well, take a deep breath. How much you time you donate is up to you. It can be 10 hours, 10 minutes or 10 seconds. You will be surprised the impact only a few moments can make.

The other day, the high temps for the day was only about 20 degrees. I was driving home from the store and passed a woman with a young girl, no more than five years old, standing at the bus stop with bags of groceries waiting for the bus. I knew it was going to be a while for the bus to come. After driving down the street I turned around and went back. I picked them up and drove them home. I found out the woman had gone to the store in order to get some medicine for her son who had the flu.

I can’t tell you the feeling I had after I had dropped them off and made sure they made it safely into the house. So if you don’t feel you have time to volunteer at the local shelter, I invite you to go through your day and as you do, see who you can help even if it’s just with a re-assuring smile, or a simple, ‘can I help you in any way?’

It will change your mood immensely.

6. Read a book. Find a feel good book! The library is full of books that offer other tips on how to improve on thinking positively, autobiographies about people who overcame the odds, and so on.

One of the books I refer to when I’m feeling a bit down is anything by Jack Canfield. His writings are so uplifting and don’t allow for excuses. Perfect! Some of the other books I read when I’m feeling a bit down, Marianne Williamson’s ‘A Return to Love’, Andy Andrew’s book, ‘The Traveler’s Gifts’. Feed your head with the good stuff.

And that’s it! It require taking a seminar, or a huge investment, this is one of those things that you can accomplish with just a few changes.

It was mentioned to me recently that many people don’t even try to do anything because it just seems too daunting and extreme to try to do it all, but as the experts explained, you don’t have to do EVERYthing. By changing just one little thing, you can create a profound effect on your outlook and life. Then when you are comfortable with that small change, you can make another small change, and so on. After a while, you look back on all the small changes you’ve made and it really adds up.

The goal is to be aware…tune in, find where small changes can be made, and make them. Trust me, you will feel pounds lighter, stand inches taller, and make you smile that much easily.

Brainwave Entrainment Want to Reduce Stress and Become More Creative? Try Alpha Meditation

Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The pulses elicit the brain’s ‘frequency following’ response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.

Are your daily problems stressing you out and keeping you from finding creative solutions?

I know I’ve faced that situation, in fact almost every day. It seemed like there was just an endless stream of crisis and problem issues.

But I found a way to deal with it. The method I started using was alpha meditation.

Meditation works by slowing our brainwaves from the highly active and alert state of beta, down into the meditative frequency of alpha. Alpha brain waves are in the frequency range of 8-12 Hz.

It is in the slower alpha waves region that the subconscious mind can be accessed because of the relaxed brainwave state. A steady routine of alpha meditation sessions will reduce your stress and allow more creative solutions to pour from your subconscious.

When you’re stressed and trying to do too many things at once, nothing can get solved. Taking a step back with just a short few minutes in alpha meditation can put you back on track.

But, do you think that meditation is too hard to learn and takes at lot of practice?

Meditation does take learning and a lot of practice, but it can be effective. The results will come but not necessarily quickly.

A quicker route to effective alpha meditation is by listening to a binaural beats download while meditating. Binaural beats are specially designed recordings that you listen to with a set of headphones. They are designed to gently coax brainwaves into the alpha waves state.

Binaural beats technology is easy to learn and you can get results faster.

IMPORTANT: A binaural beats download cannot do everything by itself. You absolutely must put yourself in a conducive meditative environment. You must be in a quiet and undisturbed place for everything to work.

Meditation has so many benefits and using binaural audio programs will give you access to these benefits at the click of a button. Research has shown that many of the benefits that meditators experience after years of dedication can be gained through the use of binaural audio.

Commonly this is used for meditation, but that’s not the only use by far. You can use it to put you into a receptive brainwave pattern that will enhance your learning ability and retention

Long term use of a binaural program will “entrain your brain waves” What this means is that by externally inducing a particular brainwave, and the beneficial effects that you’ll experience from this, you begin to get those benefits all the time.

It’s like a groove that your mind slots into more easily every time you run it. This is pretty exciting stuff because it means that we aren’t always going to need to rely on a particular audio track to reach a brainwave state.

Different levels of brainwave activity:

13 to 40 Hz – Beta waves

This is the most common brainwave level to be at during most of our waking hours. It’s at this level that we experience joy, sorrow, anxiety and anger. We can feel worried and stressed, but also alert with some focus.

7 to 13 Hz – Alpha waves

This is a more relaxed state when we are less alert than in the beta state but we are still receptive to learning and retention. This level can be induced simply by listening to baroque music, which has a certain tempo that will put most people into an alpha state

4 to 7 Hz – Theta waves

This is the level of sleeping and dreaming, we spend most of the night at this brainwave level. This is also where we are hypnotized and are very receptive.

Less than 4 Hz – Delta waves

This is the lowest brainwave level that we can experience and it is associated with extremely deep meditation but most people only ever experience it in the small hours of the morning for a brief time.

The body undergoes most of its rejuvenation during this time. If you’ve ever had a night when you’ve been disturbed and restless all night (and really who hasn’t?) then you wake up feeling like you’ve not slept at all even though you’ve spent 8 hours in bed. Often this is due to the fact that we didn’t reach a very slow level of brain wave at all. Over the course of the night we almost aim for this deep level, spending only a few minutes a night there.

Many cultures use music and especially drums to produce a trance like effect on the listeners, taking them to a low brain wave state while they’re still awake. In its many varied guises this is a quick way to access the spiritual realm through external stimulus.

The concept of brainwaves being altered has been around for years, but it is only in recent years that recording technology has allowed us to fully harness the power of this amazing knowledge.

Using binaural audio you don’t need to wait to get the benefits of meditation and all the rewards that follow. Research keeps on showing more and more benefits, many of which are well known to monks and yogi’s but there is now scientific validation to those claims and best of all the benefit are available to us all. Quickly and easily at the press of a button.

One of the first tasks that will be given to any church pianist is that of providing a weekly offertory. While some may consider the presentation of a solo one of the easier aspects of the position, I feel that the quality of the weekly offertory is one of the major factors that distinguishes a good church musician from a superb one.

Because of the role music plays in the church service, the offertory must be selected with care. Think about where the solo will occur in the order of worship. Are you following a lively choral anthem that will lead right into the congregational worship? Will the offering follow a generally somber prayer for the needs of the congregants? If you find yourself in a church without a strong liturgical tradition as I do, the positioning of the offertory may be altered weekly. There are few scenarios worse than a grandiose arrangement that follows a quiet time of meditation. Without advance thought and planning, you can sometimes find yourself in an awkward situation.

Additionally, it is important to think about your congregation. An uber-contemporary church may not respond to a classical setting of your favorite hymn. In contrast, the latest praise and worship chorus is probably not the best option for a high liturgical service. Most of us probably find ourselves somewhere in the middle of these two extremes – in what is commonly referred to as a blended service. In these settings, the choices become more difficult and more exciting as well. How often have you tried to find a great arrangement that blends a contemporary chorus with a traditional hymn without giving the impression that one of the pieces is more important or, worse still, more holy? There are a few arrangers today who are doing just these type of settings, but they are few and far between, generally demanding extreme technical facility as well.

More often, I find myself looking for arrangements of hymns that are approached with harmonic and rhythmic freshness. My current congregation is a multi-generational group with eclectic tastes in music. I have quickly accepted the fact that I will never please everyone present with my selections. Because I have so many preferences in my congregation, I get to explore some unusual settings. Some of our favorites are jazz settings of hymns such as Leaning on the Everlasting Arms and a complex harmonic treatment of Great is Thy Faithfulness. I didn’t begin using these unusual arrangements immediately though; just as with all other areas of ministry, as the congregation develops trust in you as a music minister (for that is what every church pianist should strive to be), they will also extend that trust to your musical selectivity.

Here are a few closing thoughts on making your weekly offertory a highlight of the weekly service for those that you serve.

Select pieces weekly in an attitude of prayer. All too often we forget that our solo will be a part of the worship service. We can simply choose to provide pretty background music while the important activity of collecting the congregation’s cash is performed. I think the better decision – and the one for which we strive – is to play music that is anointed by the Holy Spirit to aid those who are hearing as they worship in the act of giving.

Always have a few selections that you can fall back on. We’ve all been in the situation where the week got too hectic and our preparation time suffered. Perhaps the scheduled soloist became ill at the last minute, making the planned offertory less than desirable. Having a few selections in your back pocket gives you some flexibility whenever the need arises to make a last minute substitution. Use them sparingly though or they will become part of the normal rotation and you’ll find yourself in need of some new fall-backs.

Don’t sacrifice beauty for showmanship. Have you ever listened to a church pianist play a solo only to later ask “What WAS that song?” The arpeggios are beautiful and the tricky scale passages are impressive, but if they get in the way of the music’s message, we’re taking the focus off of the One we are to worship and shining the spotlight directly on ourselves. (Ouch…is anyone else feeling the sting of those toes that were just stepped on?)

NEVER attempt to play beyond your technical abilities! As a musician, I am all for stretching myself and continuously developing my technique. The worship service is not a practice hall, though. Just as bad as shining the spotlight on how beautifully we play is presenting a glaring example of an ill-prepared solo as part of a worship service. I am not in competition with the pianist at the church across the street, so I don’t have to attempt to play as beautifully as she does. I just have to bring my musical offering to the Heavenly Father each week as a loving sacrifice that brings Him honor and my worship. When we try out that new arrangement that is just a bit too difficult (or – Heaven forbid – completely beyond our skills) we risk interrupting the flow of the service and distracting the congregation from their worship.

Always play for the Audience of One. This is the last point on my list because I believe it is the most important one. All that I am as a Christian, a musician, and a person is because of Jesus. It is a wonderful feeling to have an audience respond to beautiful playing with appreciative applause – and, let me add, there is nothing wrong with receiving these accolades! Scripture teaches us to give honor to whom it is due. More than anything though, I want the applause of Heaven that comes as I play for the audience of One – the One who gave His all that I might have life. He is the source of the music and our constant goal should be that our music bring attention only to His grace, mercy, and greatness.

Do I get tired of trying to find a new piece each week? Of course! Like everyone else, I have a core set of arrangements that I rotate through. But the blessing of sharing my gift with God’s people outweighs the long rehearsals. Occasionally, God opens doors because of our obedience as well. A few years ago, the congregation provided an opportunity to professionally record some of my favorite arrangements. In July, I will have the chance to sit down in the studio again and record two new CDs – one for Christmas, the other songs of praise and thanks.

Happy playing!
Kennith

There are simply too many ways guys can attract girls circulating on the internet. If you really want success, I would recommend to forget about speed seduction, neuro-linguistic programming, and all the other gimmicks, and get back to basics! Believe it or not, the simplest and most effective way to attract women has been around for centuries, and this article will give you a quick outline of it.

All great seducers share similar things in common. Casanova was known as “the world’s greatest lover”, and was also a great adventurer. Soren Kierkegaard, who wrote much about seduction, also had his fair share of intense episodes. On a slightly different level, and as much as it pains me to write, Adolf Hitler has also been mentioned as a great seducer, as evil as he was. The common trait that all of these men share is easy to see. They were all confident, strong, and adventurous. They were all “bad boys” of their times..

One has to realise that women just don’t choose men based on much more that subconscious brainwaves. After all, we are merely animals. Women are biologically programmed to respond to strong, stable mates, who give the impression of being able to bear them healthy children, and to be able to protect them. Whilst this may not be the end goal for every woman, the subconscious thought is always present.

Another note to mention about all great lovers is that they were all famous. Why are ugly rock stars always getting the pretty girls? Why does that foreign exchange student pull all the local girls? Easy, they’re famous! It could be said that humans, and women in particular are susceptible to trends. Take fashion trends for example. If something is wanted by a group of women, more will jump on board. To put this bluntly, date more, go out more, start a band, start a website, start a social group, start a bar, just get your name and reputation out there!

Obviously, there are many other basics involved in attracting women, but this article has gone over a few of the more important ones. To summarize, try to come off adventurous and strong, note that women are attracted subconsciously, and get extremely social and “in demand”. Don’t forget to shower every day, shave, and dressed comfortably!
