Meditation music is music performed to aid in the practice of meditation. It can have a specific religious content, but also more recently has been associated with modern composers who use meditation techniques in their process of composition, or who compose such music with no particular religious group as a focus.

What are your memories regarding music and movement in your younger years? Do you remember the type of music your parents listened to around the house? Do certain songs or types of music trigger memories? There may be love songs that still remind you of the way your first girlfriend smelled, or you may have songs that are associated with negative memories in your mind. This shows how powerful early childhood music experiences can be for most people!

Since the experiences your children have today with music could continue to affect them much later in life, there are ways you can use music and movement to their advantage. You can give your children early childhood music experiences that bring back positive memories, relaxation and encouragement when they are much older.

Music as Relaxation

There is a reason those with sleeping problems are often encouraged to listen to soothing music in a dark, comfortable place when they are unable to fall asleep. Music can be incredibly relaxing and may be combined with deep breathing exercises to bring down the heart rate for a calm, peaceful state of mind. Some people even meditate to soft music and meditation chants often form rhythmic tunes much like songs.

You can use this to your advantage by using slower paced, rhythmic children’s songs to soothe your children to sleep or out of a temper tantrum. Think of a mother rocking her crying baby and softly humming a tune. That baby will one day grow up to think of music in a relaxing manner, since that was their early childhood music experience. Give this gift to your children, starting today. They should be able to use music as a soothing, calming force when life starts to wear them down.

Music for Excitement

Music and movement naturally go together, so it makes sense to use early childhood music exposure to pump up excitement for life. Why do you think marching bands are used on football fields? The music gets the crowd on their feet cheering! In some cases, the band is more effective at exciting the fans than the cheerleaders.

If you properly role model the use of music and movement for excitement, your children can learn to feel comfortable when in situations involving music. When the marching band swings into action at a high school football game, your children will swing into action with them naturally. Your children may even be out there on the field with them!

Music for Fun

High school sweethearts swaying in rhythm on the dance floor at prom. A newly married couple dancing across the reception hall floor, starting their life together. College students at a rave dancing through the night. Your children will experience social situations throughout their lifetimes that involve music and movement. How they respond to these situations and how comfortable they feel moving in front of and with others may come down largely to their early childhood music experiences!

Early childhood music courses are perfect for training children to use music comfortably in all of these ways. What are your child’s experiences with music to date? Will they be able to use this to their advantage when they are older?

Each of us has inner resources for guidance along our life path. Information, inspiration, answers and more can be found within if we take the time to find it. “Listen to your heart” is a theme that can be found everywhere in popular culture, but how do you go about accessing those rich inner resources? Guided imagery and guided meditation can help.

To get to the place where those rich inner resources are stored, we have to first go past the chatter of the intellect, and the turmoil of the emotions. Guided meditation programs invariably begin with instructions to relax the body, let go of stress, and calm the mind. That’s an excellent first step, and it’s very helpful to have a soothing voice with some soft background music to help you release the daily struggles. (It’s ironic that in order to tap higher guidance to help solve one’s daily struggles, we have to release them first.)

Once we get nicely relaxed, we can begin to open to what’s waiting for us beneath the surface. The imagination is often the bridge between our conscious mind and higher guidance, and by relaxing and drifting, the imagination can engage. Guided imagery seeds the imagination to help us get things started. If I suggest that you visit a beautiful waterfall (The Healing Waterfall is one of the most popular meditations of the last 30 years), and suggest that there are pretty flowers nearby, and bright, clear water, you’ll begin filling in the picture in you mind’s eye, and soon your imagination is on a roll.

Then, if I suggest that you imagine the problem your trying to solve is dissolving in a pool below the waterfall, you can start giving over the stress you’ve been holding at a deeper level. At that point, I might suggest that you listen to the sound of the water, and hear in it any suggestions for helping to approach your problem in a different way. Or I might engage your visual sense, by suggesting you see images or symbols in the water that relate to helping you solve your problem.

Where do the images, symbols, and suggestions come from? They’ve been within you the whole time,as part of your consciousness, just waiting for the opportunity to reach your conscious mind. By engaging your imagination through the guided meditation program, you can tap in. The resources available in higher guidance are limitless.

Brainwave Entrainment Devastating Situations Are a Cry Out for Healing

Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The pulses elicit the brain’s ‘frequency following’ response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.

Others link the extreme acts to economic hardship. Still others contend that it is the incessant hate-filled rhetoric of talk shows, websites, videos and blogs and part of the free world. And yet others believe that the hatred is due to the proliferation of guns or the lack of spirituality in the world.

You might call it mental illness, imbalance, deranged thinking, paranoia, evil, or any other terms that indicate the problem of thinking that is stuck in one direction and unable to consider options.

For me — and for many others who understand the power of a balanced brain – these extreme behaviors are because the brain is stuck; it is unable to flow freely in the manner in which it is intended to function.

Brainwave pattern after brainwave pattern has revealed to our research team that when a person’s brain is stuck (we also say that it “lacks ability for self-regulation”) it is unable to understand beyond the immediate moment and gesture of action. It has no ability to appreciate or evaluate the larger context.

Are there ways we can change extreme behaviors? Can people with these “stuck” patterns who perpetrate horrific acts be helped? Do you believe that 22-year-old Jared Lee Loughner went on a Tucson shooting spree because he truly wanted to kill six people? Or did his stuck brain prevent him from comprehending his own action? Was he a victim of an earlier life trauma – or a series of physical and emotional traumas – that caused his brain function to go haywire?

Brainwave balancing works to help the brain regain its intended and healthy functioning. I can tell you of many clients for whom I believe our intervention has averted a tragedy. One such client was a young man – similar to Jared Lee Loughner – whose brain functioning prevented him from thinking clearly. He hurt himself. He hurt others. He tortured animals. He rambled on at times incoherently. His nobody-is-at-home asymmetrical eyes signaled to the world that this person could be “crazy.” He was easily a “Jared Lee Loughner” in wait.

In a note I received from his foster mother after his brain balancing sessions she noted that he went from being isolated and adversarial to having friends and laughing a lot as well as going from the bottom 25% to the top 25% of his class.

In my mind, the act of helping this one young man was an act of averting potentially senseless tragedies.

The process of balancing one’s brain is the opportunity to change brain imbalance for many people in the world. This truth tells us how incredibly important this work is for all people.
Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The pulses elicit the brain? ?requency following?response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.

This ?requency following?response of brainwave entrainment can be seen in action with those prone to epilepsy. If a strobe flashes at their seizure frequency, the brain will ?ntrain?to the flashing light, resulting in a seizure.

On the positive side, this same mechanism is commonly used to induce many brainwave states; such as a trance, enhanced focus, relaxation, meditation or sleep induction. The brainwave entrainment effectively pushes the entire brain into a certain state.

Brainwave entrainment works for almost everyone. It is a great way to lead your mind into states that you might usually have difficulty reaching, allowing you to experience what those states feel like.

THE HYPE
There is a lot of marketing hype around brainwave entrainment. It is sold with promises of increasing IQ, promoting weight loss, ?ind-tripping? enhancing creativity, concentration, inducing spiritual states and more.

While these claims are not entirely true, they are not altogether false either. In practice, the claims are based on an overly-simplistic view of how the brain and the brainwaves function.
THE RUB
People are very seldom deficient in a certain brainwave type in all areas of their brain. Usually the distribution is much spottier, with an excess in one area and a deficiency in another.

We are all different, especially when it comes to the distribution of our brainwaves. Boosting a certain brainwave state may be beneficial for one person, and emotionally uncomfortable for another. Without knowing each person? starting position, entrainment can be rather ?it and miss?

If brainwave entrainment leaves you with unwanted side-effects (see below) or discomfort, you?e probably encouraging a range of brainwaves that are already excessive in some area of your brain. The way around this is to get a brain map to see what your brain? strengths and weaknesses are, and see what (if any) brainwaves could use some encouragement.

Learning numerology involves two stages or phases-learning the meaning of the numbers and calculating the various personal number values. This article is about the first-learning the symbolic meaning of the numbers. Once you learn these symbolic values, you can apply their meanings to number expressions of the numeroscope. These meanings can also be applied to astrology, cartomancy, and metaphysics in general. They can be applied in the course of your daily life to discover the underlying purpose of whatever event is occurring or whatever activity you are performing.

In numerology, every point in the universe, the infinite mind, or divine intelligence has access to information regarding all other points regardless of distance in space and time (past, present, and future). This information is contained in the archetypes of numbers, which are only partially comprehensible to humans. Knowledge of the number archetypes allows a person to align his or her will and ego with the purposes of the universe. Knowledge of number archetypes may also allow one to participate in and direct the ongoing processes of the universe or of his or her life.

Just like the zodiac, every number symbolizes a step in the process of creation. The first step is symbolized by the number one. The second step is symbolized by the number two, and so on. For example, if the numbers of a particular day add up to the number three, you know that this day favors the third step in whatever process you are engaged. If the address of a building you are in adds up to the number five, you know that this building favors the fifth step of any process. If you encounter someone whose name adds up to the number eight, you know that the energies of this person favor the eighth step of any process.

Interpretation by the Numbers

The meanings for the numbers 1 through 10, 0, and the master numbers 11, 22, 33, and 44 are given below, accompanied by personality traits and behaviors commonly associated with each number. Where applicable, the Pythagorean meanings and associated geometric shapes are given. Also where applicable, the planets, urges, and elements of C. C. Zain’s esoteric psychology and the crises and resulting personal power of Erik H. Erikson’s identity development are included. In general, odd numbers are masculine, active, and positive. Even numbers are feminine, receptive, and negative.

Number 1 — Individuality, Purpose

Pythagorean numerology begins with the number 1. Called the monad, 1 is represented by a point. It is the source of all numbers, the origin of all things. It symbolizes the primal state of unity, indivisibility, and oneness. Some say that it is both an odd and an even number. The 1 is the number of God, the Prime Masculine Number, and the Yang. It manifests as the active principle, the number of consciousness, light, the ego, the father, and authority. The Pythagoreans considered 1 to be good, desirable, essential, and indivisible. The 1 is associated with the Sun, fire, and the colors red and red-orange.

Wherever the 1 is found in the numeroscope, it indicates the beginning of a new cycle, beginnings in general, creation, individuality, and selfhood. In esoteric psychology, the 1 signifies the Sun and the power urges, i.e., the desire to survive and to be something. In identity development, the 1 signifies the trust versus mistrust crisis from which arises the power of hope.

Personality traits and behaviors associated with 1 include: adventure, aggressiveness, aloneness, ambition, arrogance, assertiveness, bossiness, confidence, courage, creativity, desire, determination, dignity, direction, dominant, egotism, egotistical, false pride, independence, individualism, individuality, initiative, intolerance, leadership, loneliness, masculinity, newness, obstinate, optimism, originality, pioneering, pomposity, powerful, prestige, resistance, self-assurance, self-centeredness, selfishness, solitariness, strength, tyrannical, and willpower.

Number 2 — Polarity, Union

The number 2 is called the dyad and is represented by a line. It indicates the loss of the primal unity. The 2 is duality, and the Pythagoreans believed that 2 is a number of excess, the first feminine number, and a defective number. The 2 represents the principles of matter, manifestation, and material evolution. The 1 has been separated into 2. With the 2, a new relationship is now possible. Something has been created which is external of the 1. 2 is both the forming of dichotomies, the division of things into two categories, and the initial emergence of life. Awareness of the other creates tension and makes union and partnership possible. The 2 is the prime feminine number, the number of polarities, pairs, partners, opposites, and antithesis. The 2 is associated with the Moon, water, the oceans, and the color orange. Sometimes 2 is associated with blue.

Wherever 2 is found in the numeroscope, it indicates externalization, separation, tension, conflict, union, partnership, cooperation, rhythm, attachment, nurturing, femininity, and motherhood. In esoteric psychology, the 2 signifies the Moon and the domestic elements of self-preservation and race preservation. In identity development, the 2 signifies the autonomy versus shame and self-doubt crisis from which arises the power of will.

Personality traits and behaviors associated with 2 include: absorption, adaptability, apathy, appeasement, attachment, awareness, balance, bonding, caution, conflict, cooperation, cruelty, deceit, dependence, diplomacy, emotions, empathy, expedience, feelings, females, femininity, fluctuation, friendship, gentleness, home, instinct, intuition, hypersensitivity, kindness, maliciousness, marriage, mediation, motherhood, neediness, nurturing, obedience, parental, partnership, patience, peace-making, pettiness, petulance, reaction, receptivity, relationship, rhythm, self-consciousness, self-effacement, self-sacrifice, sensitivity, separation, shyness, submissiveness, tension, touchiness, understanding, union, and withdrawal.

Number 3 — Interaction, Synthesis

The number 3 is referred to as the triad. It is represented by a plane, is composed of unity and diversity, and restores them to harmony. It is the first odd, masculine number. The 3 is the principle of spirit and the process of spiritual evolution through reconciliation of opposites by finding common elements or points of agreement. The 3 is the process of synthesis. The 3 represents the trinity or triune god found in most religions. The 1 is the thesis, the 2 is the antithesis, and the 3 is the synthesis. The 3 harmonizes dichotomies and is considered to be an extremely lucky number. It is ease, flow, grace, happiness, abundance, and rest. The 3 is associated with Venus, love, harmony, balance, intelligence, and the color yellow.

When 3 is found in the numeroscope, it indicates the possibilities of growth, relationship, understanding, equilibrium, ease, and peace. In esoteric psychology, the 3 signifies Mercury and the intellectual elements of adequate adaptation. In identity development, the 3 signifies the initiative versus guilt crisis from which arises the power of purpose.

Personality traits and behaviors associated with 3 include: animation, artistic, artistry, arts, beauty, brilliant, charm, communication, conceit, conversation, cooperation, creativity, cultivation, ease, energetic, enthusiasm, entertainment, envy, equilibrium, expansive, expression, extravagance, flirtatiousness, friendship, frivolous, good luck, grace, greed, growth, happiness, harmony, humor, indecision, imagination, inspiration, intelligence, joy, laziness, love, lucky, luxury, optimism, outspoken, peace, pleasure, poetry, popularity, relationships, romance, rhythms, self-expression, sociability, sociable, spirituality, superficiality, triviality, understanding, vanity, versatile, vision, wasteful, witty, words, and writing.

Number 4 — Construction, Creation

The number 4 is the tetrad. It is represented by a solid and is the first feminine square. The 4 represents justice, is steadfast, and a perfect square. It is also the number of the elements, the seasons, the ages of man, lunar phases, and virtues. It represents the power to manifest ideas in the material world. It is said to be the root of all manifested things. In many ancient cultures the 4 symbolized the world, the Earth, and any Establishment. It is the number of foundations, solid matter, the points of the compass, the seasons, the (classical Greek) elements, the winds, completion, solidarity, stability, equilibrium, the (classical Greek) four kingdoms of matter. The 4 is action, activity, energy, power, strength, crisis, sacrifice, the square, the cross, and processes of building and creating solid, concrete forms in the material world. It is the four psychological functions in Analytic Psychology (Jungian). The 4 is associated with Saturn and/or Mars, the Earth, and the colors red, green, or brown.

Wherever the 4 is found in the numeroscope, it indicates the presence of activity and strong energies needed to overcome obstacles, conflicts, and crises. The power to manifest one’s dreams in the material world and/or to actualize important relationships is present. In esoteric psychology, the 4 signifies Venus and the social elements of the ability to band together. In identity development, the 4 signifies the competence versus inferiority crisis from which arises the power of competence.

Personality traits and behaviors associated with 4 include: achievement, action, activity, aloofness, application, bitterness, building, calm, creativity, crises, energy, concentration, conflicts, conservation, construction, dedication, dejection, dependability, depth, determination, discipline, dull, economy, efficient, enduring, follow-through, form, foundation, fundamentals, gloomy, goal-orientation, growth, hardness, hard-working, ill health, impersonality, individuality, industrious, industry, joyless, limitation, management, melancholy, monotony, narrowness, organization, painstaking effort, patience, perseverance, planning, power, practical, practicality, repressive, respectable, restlessness, restriction, self-discipline, skill, stable, steady, strength, and struggles, and suspicious.

Number 5 — Intelligence, Originality

The number 5 is called the pentad and represents man or humanity, especially in regards to creativity, intelligence, talents, and self-expression, i.e., especially those qualities that are most uniquely human and separate man from the rest of the animal kingdom. Thus, the 5 represents the Quintessence, humanity, the magician, magic, the (Western) senses, and the (Chinese) elements. The 5 is the masculine marriage number, because it unites the first female number and the first male number by addition. It has the virtue of being incorruptible, because all multiples of 5 end in 5. The 5 is associated with Mars and/or Uranus, the Air, and the color blue.

Wherever the 5 is found in the numeroscope, it indicates the presence of intelligence, creativity, special talents, uniqueness, individual expression and possibly genius. In esoteric psychology, the 5 signifies Mars and the aggressive elements of the ability to defend and secure. In identity development, the 5 signifies the identity versus role confusion crisis from which arises the power of fidelity.

Personality traits and behaviors associated with 5 include: activity, adaptability, adventure, adventurous, belligerence, change, changeableness, clever, conceited, courage, creativity, criticalness, curiosity, discard, enterprise, expansiveness, experience, flexibility, freedom, haste, impulsiveness, individuality, intelligence, intuition, invention, irresponsibility, lustful, magnetism, movement, nervous, progress, promotion, resilient, restlessness, resourcefulness, sarcastic, scattering, sensuality, sexual, strife, temperament, thoughtlessness, uniqueness, unpredictability, unstable, variety, versatility, and vitality.

Number 6 — Responsibility, Success

The number 6 is represented by the hexad. The 6 is the feminine marriage number, because it unifies 2 and 3 through multiplication. It is also considered the first perfect number and is the area of a 3-4-5 triangle. The 6 represents the benefits that come from activity and productivity. To the Pythagoreans, 6 was the perfect number since, when multiplied by itself it results in the number itself (6 X 6 = 42 ~ 4 + 2 = 6). The 6 was also considered to be a perfect number because ~ 1 + 2 + 3 = 6. The 6 combines the ease, harmony, good luck, synthesis of the 3 with the polarity and awareness of the number 2. The 6 is an active, productive, and successful number 3. It brings good fortune, but through effort, productivity, and activity. The 6 is also related to the human soul, harmony, creation, love, marriage, domestic happiness, and matters of the heart, by some numerologists. The 6 is associated with Jupiter, the Earth element, productivity, and the color indigo.

Wherever the 6 is found in the numeroscope, it indicates a high likelihood of success and prosperity through work efforts. In esoteric psychology, the 6 signifies Jupiter and the religious elements of faith in leadership and tolerance. In identity development, the 6 signifies the intimacy versus isolation crisis from which arises the power of love.

Personality traits and behaviors associated with 6 include: beauty, burdens, carelessness, comfort, complacent, conscientiousness, conservative attitudes, creative, domesticated, domesticity, educational, legal, religious, and/or spiritual interests, exaggeration, expansion, family, friendliness, gossipy, harmonious, harmony, healing, honest, hypocrisy, idealistic, interfering, joyfulness, justice, loyal, luck, meddling, morale, morality, optimism, over-concern for others, over-expansiveness, overindulgence, parental, passion, productivity, prosperity, protection, reliability, responsibility, selfish, self-righteousness, service, social and artistic balance, trivial, trust, understanding, and wisdom.

Number 7 — Thought/Consciousness

To the Pythagoreans the number 7 is represented by the heptad and is associated with the Greek maiden goddess Athene. They considered 7 to be a virgin number because it has no products, and a circle can never be broken into 7 equal parts. The 7 symbolizes the cosmic process of creativity. It combines the divine trinity of the 3 and the power of physical manifestation of the 4. The 7 represents the stages of manifestation and the seven aspects of God as manifested through the seven stars or angels. It represents creation, divinity, and religious and fated activities. It symbolizes occult mysteries, magical ceremonies, and psychic and clairvoyant powers. The 7 is considered to be a difficult number to interpret in a specific and accurate manner. The 7 is associated with Saturn, religion, devotion, authority, royalty, the Earth element, and the color purple.

Wherever the 7 is found in the numeroscope, it is very likely that religion and spirituality figure prominently. Either the exoteric and/or the esoteric aspects of religion may be present. Strange and fated occurrences are likely as well. In esoteric psychology, the 7 signifies Saturn and the safety elements, and the abilities to escape from enemies and provide security. In identity development, the 7 signifies the generativity versus stagnation crisis from which arises the power of caring.

Personality traits and behaviors associated with 7 include: aloneness, aloof, analysis, authority, bureaucracy, calculation, confused, conservative attitudes, contemplative, depressive, dreamy, efficiency, escapism, exactitude, example, faith, fear, fussiness, impractical, intellectual snobbery, intelligence, introspection, intuition, investigation, knowledge, lazy, legal, religious, and/or spiritual interests, loneliness, malice, melancholy, metaphysics, moody, mystery, mystical, nagging, nervousness, perception, perfection, perfectionism, pessimism, philosophy, pride, psychology, religious or spiritual development, realities, reason, research, responsibility, science, secrecy, self-knowledge, self-righteousness, skepticism, silence, solitude, suspicion, thought, understanding, the unseen, verbosity, vision, and wisdom.

Number 8 — Power/Sacrifice

The 8 is referred to as the octad or ogdoad. It is the first cube: 2 x 2 x 2 = 8. Because it is the 4 (action, activity, energy, and crisis), divided by the 2 (externalization, separation, tension, and conflict), the 8 symbolizes the point of maximum dynamic activity, the point of the greatest energy and power. It is considered to symbolize material success and worldly involvement. The 8 is associated with the Sun and Uranus, activity, frustrations, busy work, and the colors rose and the transitional color between red and violet.

Wherever the 8 is found in the numeroscope, it indicates intense energy needed to finalize the details of and structure. At times the 8 can be very frustrating. At other times, it may feel exhilarating when our consciousness flows with the work we are performing. In esoteric psychology, the 8 signifies Uranus and the individualistic elements, and the abilities to depart from the past and develop better ways. In identity development, the 8 signifies the integrity versus despair crisis from which arises the power of wisdom.

Personality traits and behaviors associated with the 8 include: administration, authority, broad, business, busy work, capability, carelessness, comprehension, concentrated effort, control, cruelty, eccentric, efficiency, energy, extravagance, executive ability, extreme individualism, frustration, greed, guilt-ridden, haughty, hard work, impatience, lack, improvidence, leadership, loss, management, material accomplishment, materialism, money, obstinate, organization, power, promotion, rewards, ruthless, self-reliance, skill, strain, strength, struggle, success, tenacity, thoroughness, tough, unscrupulous, vindictiveness, and waste.

Number 9 –Completion

The number 9 is referred to as the nonad or ennead. It is the first masculine cube. It is also considered incorruptible because no matter how many times it is multiplied, it reduces to itself. The 9 can be thought of as a very spiritual number or as a very lucky number because it is three 3’s. The 9 is similar to the 7 in that it is a very spiritual number and one that prefers isolation and withdrawal. It is actually the last number in regards to numerology because all other numbers can be reduced to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9. The 9 represents the human gestation period, ending in the completion of one cycle and the beginning of the next. It is also similar to gestation in that the actual activity of creation is not visible to the material world. The 9 is may be associated with Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto. Because of its universal qualities, it may be associated with all the colors of the spectrum, bright blue, and psychedelic colors.

In the numeroscope, the 9 suggests creativity, spirituality, withdrawal, and completion. A 9 in the numeroscope indicates that the person will give birth, probably several times, to the development of spiritual ideas, mysticism, and psychic phenomena. In esoteric psychology, the 9 signifies Neptune and the utopian elements, and the yearning for better conditions.

Personality traits and behaviors associated with 9 include: attainment, benevolence, compassion, completion, creativity, dedication, devotion, disruption, emotion, expulsion, extremes, generosity, genius, imagination, impersonality, intellect, intensity, intuition, limitless power, meditation, mysticism, personal loss, philanthropy, psychic phenomena, regeneration, religious devotion, service, selflessness, shyness, ulterior motives, understanding of the spirit, upheaval, universal awareness, and universality.

Number 10 — Rebirth

The number 10 is called the decad. It represents completion, infinity, and rebirth. It is also the number of our fingers and toes. The 10 is said to contain all the numbers because after 10, the numbers repeat themselves. The number 10 is generally not used in numerology because the 10 is reduced to 1 in numerology (1 + 0 = 1). The 10 has characteristics of both the 0 and the 9. In esoteric psychology, the 10 signifies Pluto and the universal welfare elements, and preservation through cooperation among individuals.

Number 0 — Everything and Nothing

The 0 is not included in Pythagorean numerology. It represents God unmanifest, i.e., Spirit without Matter and without things. It is God before creation, especially physical or material creation. It is Divinity without awareness. The 0, or circle is divine potential upon which no action has been taken. It is the cosmos before the cosmos comes into being, before the Big Bang, or whatever. It is also a symbol of infinity. The 0 also reminds us of the positive value of powerlessness. In metaphysical symbolism, a circle with a dot in its center indicates that creation or physical manifestation has begun. It especially symbolizes that the Spirit or God, has divided into individual parts so that it may come to know itself. This division is not real. It is the false perception of mater or material objects. In astrology, God manifest is represented by the symbol for the Sun. The Sun is the individualized spirit that sustains each of us. The 0 is not used in most numerological calculations or in the numeroscope. The reason is that 0 + any number = the number. The 0 has its own significance, but it does not add anything to numerological calculations.

Master Numbers

The term master number refers to two, three, or four numbers which are considered to be above and beyond the normal spectrum of the average human being. These numbers imply genius and superior accomplishments brought over from previous lives. Master numbers may possess greater potential or higher vibrations than other numbers. They may be highly charged and difficult to handle. They may take great effort to integrate into one’s personality. Realizing the power of master numbers may require time and maturity. After interpreting a number as a master number, it is usually reduced numerically to a single digit, and the standard interpretation is applied as well.

The numbers 11, 22, 33, and 44 have all been referred to as master numbers. Master numbers are interpreted before they are reduced to single digits. As previously mentioned, most numerologists recognized 11 and 22 as master numbers. A few use 33 as a master number, and even fewer use 44 as a master number. Some numerologists do not use any master numbers.

Number 11 — Inspiration/Illumination

The number 11 refers to idealism and outstanding accomplishments that are largely intellectual or mental in nature. It often indicates artistic or musical talent. The individual with an 11 is said to be inspired, and he or she is usually an inspiration to others. An 11 may also display characteristics of a 2. Of course, not everyone with an 11 is capable of manifesting the talents and characteristics of an 11. In such cases, the 11 becomes an ordinary 2.

Personality traits and behaviors associated with 11 include: altruism, aviation, creativity, confusion, debauchery, deception, delusion, destruction, dreamer, ecstasy, elation, electricity, escapism, evangelism, faith, fame, fanaticism, greatness, idealism, ideals, illumination, impracticality, independence, inner conflict, insight, inspiration, intangible, intuition, limelight, mysticism, nervousness, obligation, originality, peace, perversity, phobias, principles, psychic, radicalism, rebellious, religion, reverence, sacrifice, self-destruction, sensitivity, shyness, spirituality, spiritual vision, subconscious, tactlessness, truth, understanding, and uselessness.

Number 22 — Masterful/Master Builder

The 22 is interpreted as a number of great material accomplishments, often through the use of spiritual or magical abilities. It is the most powerful of all the numbers. A person with a 22 turns dreams into reality. He or she is referred to as a Master Builder. A 22 may also display characteristics of a 4. Of course, not every with a 22 is capable of manifesting the talents and characteristics of an 22. In such cases, the 22 becomes an ordinary 4.

Personality traits and behaviors associated with 22 include: achiever, ambition, broad vision, discipline, distribution, intense, limitless, materialistic, methodical, pressure, practicality, resourceful, self-confidence, strong, and success.

Number 33 — Initiate/Master Teacher

The number 33 symbolizes the principle of guidance. It is the most influential of all numbers. The person with a 33 has made great spiritual accomplishments in previous lives. He or she has successfully integrated the 11 and the 22 and has risen to a higher level. He or she has become the Master Teacher, and his or her dharma or spiritual purpose is to uplift humanity spiritually by communicating the wisdom of the ages. He or she must forsake all personal ambitions.

The Master Teacher displays a high level of devotion to truth. He or she must seek understanding and wisdom before preaching to others. The Master Teacher must find original ways to encourage spiritual evolution. The arts, medicine, or some unconventional form of healing are possible mediums through which the Master Teacher addresses the public. He or she must share the truths he or she knows. If not, the Master Teacher may stagnate. His or her opportunities for further growth dwindle away until he or she performs the duties of the Master Teacher. A 33 may also display characteristics of a 6. Of course, not every with a 33 is capable of manifesting the talents and characteristics of a 33. In such cases, the 33 becomes an ordinary 6.

Personality traits and behaviors associated with 33 include: artist, blessing, bravery, Christ-like, compassionate, courage, discipline, educator, guidance, healing, healer, honest, inspiration, love, martyr, monk, physician, protection, self-sacrifice, teacher of teachers, and truth.

The 33 manifests only when the birth day, the birth month, and the birth year (day/month/year) each add up to 11, when the month and day add up to 22 and the year to 11, when the month and year add up to 22 and the day to 11, or the day and year add up to 22 and the month to 11. For example, during the 21st century the years 2009, 2018, 2027, 2037, 2045, 2054, 2063, 2072, 2081, and 2090 add up to 11. During the 20th century, only the year 1901 adds up to an 11. Years like 1991 add up to a 2. 1991 = 1 + 9 + 9 + 1 = 20 (1 + 9 = 10, 10 + 9 = 19, 19 + 1 = 20, 2 + 0 = 2).

The master numbers 11, 22, and 33 are said to represent a triangle called the Triangle of Enlightenment. In relation to the Triangle, the number 11 represents the vision, 22 combines vision with action, and 33 offers guidance to the world.

Number 44 — Masterful/Master Manager

The 44 is the number of the Master Manager. The Master Manager is extremely rare. He or she is a conscious bridge between the physical plane and higher planes or realms. The Master Manager is capable of manifesting whatever he or she focuses on with desire. He or she is learning to be a creator. A 44 may also display characteristics of an 8. Of course, not every with a 44 is capable of manifesting the talents and characteristics of a 44. In such cases, the 44 becomes an ordinary 8.

Brainwave Entrainment The Three Best Alternative Treatments for ADHD

Brainwave entrainment is a method to stimulate the brain into entering a specific state by using a pulsing sound, light, or electromagnetic field. The pulses elicit the brain’s ‘frequency following’ response, encouraging the brainwaves to align to the frequency of a given beat.

There are a LOT of alternative treatments for sale out there for people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder who would rather not have to use a strong medication such as Ritalin. Some of these are good, some are fair, and some are bad. Anything that is on the market will help somebody out there. There are upwards of 10,000,000 people with ADHD in the US, including children, teens, and adults. So a treatment that worked for as few as 01% of those who tried it could still line up thousands of people for Donohue to say what a remarkable treatment it was. Just as a way of reference, consider that studies show that a placebo is effective, when measured by parent rating scales, with about 15% of children with ADD/ADHD. As measured by way of computerized tests such as the TOVA, placebos are 0% effective at bringing about statistically significant improvements. So, when we rate the effectiveness of any treatment, alternative or medical model, we need to consider the effectiveness (measured by parents subjective ratings or objective computer ratings?) and the possible side effects. Choose wisely. These are the three alternative interventions that I think are the best. These decisions are based on personal experience in my practice, and from both published and unpublished research data. I’ll only list them briefly, as this could turn into a book if I write too much detail. 1. EEG Biofeedback Training. About 70-75% effective as measured by both computer assessment tools and parent ratings. Important issues in treatment are: Age of child, IQ of child, expertise of therapist, quality of equipment, and financial resources of family. This technology involves the acquiring of the EEG brainwave activity from the subject, and through the use of either animation, or sound, or tactile feedback, the subject learns to change and control his/her brainwave activity. Simply, the subject is trained to produce less of the slow brainwave activity that is related to “disregulation” or being a “space cadet” and learns to make more of the mid-range activity related to focused concentration and self-control. Yes, it works. No, it is not just placebo. This is a 25 year old technology that is recently gained a lot of respect from clinicians and is used at about 1,000 sites now nationwide. It is best for children over 6 years old, with average or above IQ’s. The therapist must know what he’s doing, so look for experience and training. The equipment must be good. Two computer monitors are best, one for therapist and one for subject. The number of sessions can range from 20 to 40. Cost ranges from $50/session to $150/session. Shop around. Some insurances cover these services, most do not. Resources: EEG Spectrum has an association of therapists around the nation and world. They now have 300 Associate Offices in 25 countries. I’m not associated with them, but I do consider Sigfried and Susan Othmer as old friends. 2. VAXA International’s newly revised “Attend” product. It is effective for 70% of ADD ADHD individuals, as measured by computer testing and parent scales. Important issue: Can the child swallow capsules (they are pretty large capsules). This is a nutraceutical medicine that combines 75 ingredients, including amino acids, homeopathic medicines, phospholipids, essential fatty acids, Pycnogenol, grape seed extract OPC’s, DHEA, DMAE, and more. I did the clinical research for the manufacturer, so I have seen this work with my own eyes with dozens of subjects. I am convinced that it is very helpful for the majority of kids/teens/adults. It can be used with medications, and as it begins to be effective the medication levels can often be lowered. With temper problems or hyperactivity/hyper-startle problems, it is best combined with other VAXA products in targeted treatment strategies for your specific type of ADHD. “Attend” takes about 30-60 days to become effective. Improvement continues for at least 120 days. We even measured improvements with college athletes who were not ADD ADHD in reaction time over a 90 day period! We have the data from our clinical studies, and a comparison between the effective of Ritalin, EEG Biofeedback, and “Attend” in the “Attend” section of the ADHD Information Library. Be sure to check that out and see for yourself! 3. Elimination Diet. This is the 3rd best alternative treatment that I know of. It only seems to work with about 20-25% of the kids who try it, but when it does work, it is great. Why does it work? I don’t know. Some kids seems very sensitive to food additives or food colorings, or to sodas, or to cow’s milk, or to sugars paired with carbohydrates. Some kids seem to have real ups and downs with their blood sugar levels. Why does it work for some, and not for others? I have no idea, and I’ve had hundreds of kids on this diet over the past five years or so. Here’s a letter I received last week via email… Dear Doctor, I requested the info for the ADD diet for a friend at church. It’s working wonders for her 3 yr. old son (after just a week!), but she’s unable to find the Rice milk, Almond milk or Better than Milk. Can she substitute a lactose-free product or is there something else besides lactose in the dairy to avoid? If she can’t, where can she get the other products you recommend? (We live in Oklahoma City) We’d both like to express our thanks for the information. It’s going to help a lot of other people we know, too. We’ve had many requests for copies of the info.

Once again, many thanks! Love & Peace in Christ, Karen F These are wonderful responses! But, don’t get your hopes up too high. If it works, great! If it doesn’t work, try something else. To get a copy of the diet visit the ADHD Information Library at http://www.newideas.net/adddiet.htm.

Meditation is the best way to relax your mind and body. Many people know the techniques of meditation but a large number of people are still unaware of how to meditate. Since there are some basic points to consider before meditating, even though there is no predefined way to meditate, here are issues to take into consideration.

1) It’s at your own discretion how you will meditate. You need to know one thing that meditation depends upon: your level of concentration for the purpose.

2) Many think that the best time for meditation is before sunrise. Yes, it is the best time because you can concentrate more during this time of the day. Taking a bath before meditation refreshes your mind and body before meditation. Your sitting posture is important as well as your body positioning. Sitting with a straight upright posture is the best way to meditate and will help you in achieving the best desired results.

3) There are many different ways of meditation. Some people burn candles for adding aromatherapy effects, while some use meditation music, for focusing and enhancing their attention and concentration during meditating.

4) Yoga techniques can be used for meditation. Yoga unites the mind, body and soul. Yoga helps in the circulation of blood, oxygen and energizes the body more quickly.

5) Meditation is beneficial to your overall emotional, mental and spiritual well being. Meditation can help create peace and harmony in your life. It works wonders for you.

6) Breathing patterns are important. Meditation uses your breath to centre your concentration. The secret is to learn focus breathing without concentration too much on the breath. The breath serves as a catalyst for your meditation. While meditating focus on the subconscious or mantra and the technique your teacher has taught you. Most often practitioners get too lost in controlling the breath. Meditation is not a breath controlling exercise.

7) Physical fitness is also important. No matter what level of meditation you intend to take up either for a calm mind or for manifesting abundance, if you are not physically fit it will not be helpful. Meditation will not work if you are not physically fit. A physical body has greater concentration power thus, enabling you to have maximum benefit from meditation. If you take up meditation take up yoga and exercising as well.

8) You must be regular in your meditation. You must preferably meditate regularly at the same place and same time everyday. From elaborate and intricate breathing exercises to simple relaxing will prove beneficial only if you perform regularly.

In summary, meditation is a private activity. It is a religious or personality development exercise but is essentially a personal and private activity. Discussing it over a cup of coffee will not help you but will rather hinder your progress, in other words.

You may discuss it with your teachers or fellow learners but it is on the whole an internal and individual process. You will find the path within yourself even if you do not believe in the religious or spiritual part of the meditation. Learning to control your mind is a solitary process that may get distracted or hindered with extensive discussions.

Summertime is here and the living should now be easy. That includes your weight loss plan. Here are the first twenty-five of my best suggestions to help you accomplish your weight loss goals.

1. Get a checkup: Assess how healthy you are. Know your numbers. Don’t ignore any medical issues. Make a plan to lower that cholesterol or lose 10% of your weight in the next 6 months or take care of your teeth if you haven’t seen your dentist in a year.

2. Fill up on fluids: When the heat is on nothing tastes better than an icy cold beverage. This is the time of year for smoothies, slushes and refrigerators filled with pitchers of mint, lemons, limes, apple slices, melon slivers, and cucumbers.

3. Use your muscles with your mind: Be smart about activity. Being outdoors is such a mind boosting experience. If you can take your workout outdoors please do so. Getting 15-20 minutes of sunlight will give your body a boost of vitamin D. And please breathe!

4. Get your 8 hours in: Staying active mentally and physically all day will ensure a restful night sleep. Summerize your bedroom. Bedding that is lightweight, light colored, and lavender scented, music of ocean waves, and a comfortably cool air temperature all add to the enjoyment of a good night sleep.

5. Get creative: There are so many foods to grill. Expand your palate try grilled pineapples over toasted angel food cake, or grilled parsnips, tomatoes, and mushrooms on thin crust pizza topped with feta cheese, and basil.

6. Grow an herb garden: Chives, basil, cilantro, dill, mint and rosemary are excellent flavoring to add for breakfast burritos, salads, salsas and dips, vegetables, fish, seafood and poultry, fruit ice desserts and summertime beverages.

7. Smell those roses: Find a botanical garden and take a stroll. Listen to the birds; take a picture of a garden you enjoy looking at. This can be an easy way to lower your blood pressure and relieve some stress.

8. Write yourself a letter: Where do you want to be a year from now? Are you working and happy at your job? Are you lacking computer skills? Is there a trip in your future? Do you have a bucket list? Why not?

9. Dance the night away: All you need is music. You don’t even need a partner! Dancing is a form of exercise and has the additional benefit of taking your mind off any problems you might have in your personal life.

10. Volunteer: Do you have expertise or a hobby that you can share with others? Volunteers always get back so much more in rewards than they are giving. Our world can be a lonely place for a senior without family or an orphaned child or stray animal destined for death.

11. Get emotional: We often reserve our feelings for the sake of appearances. It is a fact that repressed emotions are a greater risk to our health. So let your feelings out. Wrap your arms around those loved ones; tell them they are important to you; remember birthdays and celebrate! Surprise someone with an unexpected gesture.

12. Start the day: Breakfast makes the rest of the day easier on your appetite. On the move either pack something the night before (English muffin, peanut butter and banana) or throw a shake together with coffee, cocoa, yogurt, ground flax cinnamon, fruit of choice, nuts, and ice. Add protein powder for additional staying power.

13. Make a date with yourself: Send an email, set an alarm on your watch to get up and move every hour even for 5 minutes. There are many free apps available.

14. Eat internationally: Each day create Asian-(stir fry), Mexican-(fajita), and Greek-lamb kebab), French, Italian-(cappuccino), Californian-(avocado salad), and Dominican-lentil stew), South American-(flatiron steak), Northeastern-(clam chowder), Southern-(collards), Tex-Mex-(chili). You never have to be bored.

15. Never be hungry again: The secret weapon is to eat every 4 hours. Have healthy snacks readily available in your car, gym-bag, on the job, in the freezer and pantry.

16. Lose the “disease to please”: Be aware that practicing to say no is a positive behavior. No guilt attached. For the sake of your health and your planned schedule you might need to excuse yourself from volunteering to take over someone else’s responsibility.

17. Strategize your kitchen: Check everywhere your eye will go. Place healthy products within your view. Please remove all foods and beverages that are not on your planned menu.

18. Measure your waist: Women 35″ and men 40″ are the numbers for you to not exceed. Abdominal fat is associated with increased disease risk.

19. Fill up your plates: That is a 9 inch one. When your plate is filled your perceived satisfaction increases. So trade in those large plates for smaller ones and beware when eating outside of your home.

20. Count your paces: Get a pedometer and aim for 10,000 steps a day. Sounds like a lot but the average woman walks 4900 steps a day without trying.

21. Know your family history: It might save your life. Talk to your relatives and share family medical history.

22. Brew a nightcap: Chamomile tea if left to steep all day might turn into a natural sleeping aid for you.

23. Om: Meditation has been around for centuries. It has been credited for lowering blood pressure and having positive stress busting effects so give it a try before saying nay. There are yoga classes, tapes, and books available.

24. Challenge your mind: Take a class, read a book, memorize a poem or do a crossword puzzle. Scientific studies show challenging your brain will help improve memory. It also will take your mind in other areas away from thinking about problems or hunger.

25. Say please to cheese: The calcium and appetite soothing benefits that cheese has goes a long way with satisfying the appetite. Cheese is versatile and healthy in small portions.

These practices are recommended by patients who have succeeded in losing weight, increasing their fitness levels and saying good bye to medications for high cholesterol, blood pressure, and high blood glucose or blood fat levels. I will be publishing my next twenty-five shades to shape up your weight loss.

Some people have the amazing strength and courage to turn tragedy into something good for others. This young woman turned her near life-ending tragedy and serious back injury into a journey help men relieve back pain naturally, and to help our Marines wounded in the wars and aid their families.

Loredana “Laurie” Meilbeck, a Registered Yoga Instructor, had her world changed forever in the form of an over-sized SUV crushing her tiny Ford Escort at 65 miles an hour, and breaking her back. Common and unfortunate enough perhaps, but it is the human spirit growing beyond this tragedy which makes for a story.

Refusing to allow her spirit nor her body to become dominated by this tragedy, she used Yoga to maintain the positive spirit required to persevere through a grueling rehabilitation process, to rise above an otherwise crippled life, find beauty again, and bring health to others with her experience and strength.

Laurie’s life prior to the accident had been that of an outdoor Southern California girl; weekends at the ocean swimming and tanning, in the mountains hiking and skiing, with an abundance of outdoor life, free and mobile. She was an accomplished figure skater, a model, and a student of biology and natural sciences. The mother of two very active kids, she was the ‘Uber-mom’ involved in everything from girl scouts to BMX racing.

After sustaining the numerous life-threatening injuries to her skull, back bone, internal organs and limbs, she had to literally learn to read, talk and walk all over again. During days spent studying flashcards in English and Italian (her native language), to hours of physical therapy, enduring several reconstructive surgeries and a myriad of medications, Laurie often heard from doctors of the limitations that her life would have. “May never walk again”, “would live with brain damage”, “only have a limited capacity to work”, etc. As these dark prospects troubled her, she quietly began recalling her yoga training, and was aided in the simplest poses by a friend visiting. She began to cling to the belief that yoga practice would pull her from the dismal future others envisioned for her. Working slowly, she was able to increase her capability to accomplish more physically while clearing her mind and intensifying her positive focus with meditations and breathing.

After 3 months, she was released from the hospital. Still suffering many challenges such as severe headaches and back pain, it was difficult living on her own and had much help from family. She continued her Yoga practice daily with a friends help. She felt that the pain medications doctors had prescribed clouded her ability to think and masked her emotions. In disgust one day, she gathered up her pain medications and flushed them all down the commode.

As the years went on Laurie kept Yoga as her daily practice, continued raising her children, and eventually went back to work. With diligence and hard work, her life began to take on a resemblance of her better days. Feeding on her love for Yoga Laurie eventually decided to make Yoga her profession.

Upon becoming registered Yoga Instructor, Laurie taught at several local Yoga studios and gyms, while continuing with additional training, and opened her small private Yoga studio.

One of the opportunities she had was to teach regular classes at Marine Corps Base-Camp Pendleton. In attendance at these classes were mostly Marine wives who coaxed their Marine husbands to join them at a Yoga class, and another class was for the Wounded Warriors, those returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The participants included young, muscular Marines who had been in the Iraq war or were fierce athletes.

While many seemed reluctant or skeptical at first, Laurie experienced watching the transition as the Yoga class became more important and valuable to the men who attended.

Laurie noticed a marked improvement in the men who participated in her classes, if she could get them to attend. Many began returning, first at the door for class and eager to begin, talking about which poses they liked, the disappearance of stiffness and pain, improvement of their golf game, etc. As a patient yet challenging instructor, Laurie was respected. The outspoken satisfaction and enjoyment verbalized by these men was enough for Laurie to realize what was needed: a Yoga class just for men.

Laurie realized that if Yoga classes could be so well-received by men that she could carry the message to even greater numbers, and help men and women to enjoy Yoga together.

During this process, Laurie had a revelation: that her tragic experience could actually become one of the greatest defining moments of her life, and that yoga was the key. As a “Marine Mom” herself, she knew the sacrifices that the young men and women made for our country. As a back injury patient, she knew the challenges of recovery. She knew the social obstacles for men to enjoy Yoga, and as a compassionate soul, she knew that to truly enjoy life she needed to give to others. She vowed to turn her challenges into a platform for greatness in her life.

With unbridled enthusiasm, Laurie embarked on a mission to create a yoga class which could attain all of these goals. A yoga class with which men could identify, by coupling one of the primary ailments that men experience-back pain- with one of the primary physical benefits of Yoga. In turn, it would help proliferate yoga, and those in need would receive help.

Laurie set out to establish a tone and style that would be appealing to men. This included the setting in the room, a basic pose routine focusing on stretching and relaxing, less focus on meditation, yet a maintained focus on breathing and physical movement and with a contemporary music selection. In the many months spent researching and designing the Yoga class, Laurie created a class that covers the entire spectrum of requirements for posture, stretching, strength building and spine-aligning poses.

Devoted solely to men and targeted specifically to men’s back problems, Loredana created the class specifically for men to get involved in yoga to help relieve back pain and back problems. She introduced the class to her local Adult Education program, and created it on video for men to use at home. Making a debut at Saddleback Valley USD Adult Ed in February, the class was filled to capacity with 20 men from various walks of life who attended for a multitude of reasons: older men who had lost flexibility, golfers and personal trainers looking for more flexibility, and those with back injuries or surgery pending. The feedback was impressive, the satisfaction with the class very high. Several men returned the following semester, along with several newcomers. Laurie began teaching the class in her private studio, and endeavors to take the class into ever widening circles of people at every opportunity. As many men are reluctant to begin yoga at a public studio, they practice yoga for back pain relief by following her class on video at home.

Remaining true to her spirit of gratitude and service, Laurie donates a significant portion of her proceeds to the wounded Marines. She became a benefactor for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund (IMSFF), an organization who’s function is to provide financial assistance to injured Marines, Sailors, and service members and their families during their difficult road to recovery. She continues to work to support the Fund in various ways.

Laurie enjoys a very healthy lifestyle, and teaches Yoga at her private studio in California. Laurie’s courage, determination and Yogi spirit are admired by her students, and she is pleased to offer her message of hope, strength and health.

Laurie works with her husband Phillip to bring the benefits and awareness of yoga to more men.

How to Meditate

Meditation is focusing the mind on something rather than letting it roam free. When you focus the mind, the result is a quiet mind. The purpose of meditation is not just to quiet the mind, however, but also to experience the peace, love, and joy of being in the Now and, ultimately, to express this peace, love, and joy in the world.

The mind can be quieted by focusing on any number of things, which accounts for the various types of meditation. Generally, the focus is on a sensory experience because the senses are a doorway into the Now. When we focus on a sight, sound, or physical or energetic sensation, the mind is quieted because we can’t think and fully sense at the same time. For instance, you can’t think and listen to what someone is saying at the same time. Similarly, you can’t think and be fully absorbed in listening (meditating) to a piece of music. The same is true of any sense: If you are fully engaged in sensing something that precludes thinking. If you are thinking while you are sensing something, then you aren’t actually fully sensing it, although you might still be aware of it. The goal in meditation is to be fully engaged in sensing and not in thinking. So the simplest instruction for meditation is to be fully engaged with whatever you are sensing, and whenever your mind wanders from that, gently bring it back to sensing.

You can meditate (focus) on music. Or you can meditate on the sounds in your environment and on the silence in between those sounds. Or you can meditate on a beautiful flower, a sunset, the breeze blowing through the trees, the clouds moving across the sky, or any other beautiful sight that has the capacity to capture your attention. Or you can meditate to the physical and energetic sensations in your body as you are sitting or moving. Tai Chi, Qigong, yoga, and other body-oriented spiritual practices have you focus on the body and the sensations related to positions and movements of the body.

Experiment and find out what you most enjoy focusing on. The simple instruction, once again, is to put your attention on what you are listening to, watching, or sensing in some other way, and when you catch yourself thinking, bring your attention back to sensing.

During your day, make it a habit to pay attention to what you’re sensing rather than to what you’re thinking. The result of being more in your body and senses during the day is greater peace, contentment, happiness-and effectiveness. Listening to our thoughts often distracts us from what we’re doing and makes us less effective, not only less happy.

Please consider making meditation a part of your day this week and every week to come.
