The Rush Hour can be a noisy environment and the ride to work may leave one exhausted and moody, making for a bad day. The following exercise can increase your energy for the day and allow you to arrive to work in a positive mood. It can be practiced on a train, bus or plane.

Find a seat. You may also do this standing up, but make sure that you and your property is secure
Once you have found your seat, sit down comfortably with your back straight and head level. If standing, make sure your back is straight and feet are firm.
Place both hands, palms down, flat on your knees, If you have a bag or backpack, place it on your lap and run your hands and arms through the straps and clasp your hands together. If standing, hold on to a strap or pole and make sure you are secure.
Close your eyes and breath deeply through your nose. As you inhale, allow your abdomen to fill with air first, then slowly bring up the air into your chest and upper chest. Exhale in reverse through the nose, allowing your chest to empty first, then your abdomen. Make sure that your exhalations are longer then your inhalations as this will help your body to relax more quickly.
After your breathing becomes rhythmic, focus your attention to the point between your eyebrows and begin to notice the sounds coming through your ears. Whether it is the noises of the vehicle you are riding, people talking, or even the music from someone’s walkman, feel the vibrations of the sounds entering your body. Direct these sound vibrations towards the point between the eyebrows.
While maintaining the deep rhythmic breath, allow the sound to become part of you…imagine that you are immersed in a sea of different sounds and vibrations and allow them to become part of you and you part of it.

This may be practiced throughout your ride, or in between stops. Start slowly, practicing this for a part of your trip, and gradually work your way up. Be aware at all times and refrain from falling asleep. It will be tough at first, but with practice, it’ll become easier. This exercise will also help with your regular meditation practice as it will help still the mind.

Meditation is a habitual process of training your mind to focus and redirect your thoughts. You can use it to increase awareness of yourself and your surroundings. Many people think of it as a way to reduce stress and develop concentration.
Basic meditation music simply provides a way for an individual to go deeper with their meditation by adding a new layer to their experience. … Unlike many other music forms, the binaural beats work with the brain to develop a frequency most associated with relaxation.

Do you get the feeling like you want to rewind your weekend when it’s Sunday night? Would you rather put hot forks on your eyeballs instead of getting up and going to work on Monday?

Well it sounds like you may have a bad case of the “Fun Sucker Boss” syndrome. Just staying motivated to do everyday tasks can be difficult but when you have a boss that has the fun vacuum over your head every day, well now it’s time to skill up, grab your motivational ninja stars and battle that boss!

So there is great news: staying motivated when your boss is a fun sucker doesn’t have to be AS challenging anymore. With the right tools and maybe a good stretch (you don’t want to pull a muscle in case you are forced to do a high kick, which we call Plan B) you can once again feel motivated to command and conquer!

We are going to share with you 5 tools that we have used and have had enormous success with in the past. The idea is to apply these on a daily basis. Make a habit by focusing on JUST these for the next 30 days and maybe, just maybe your boss will turn off their fun sucker vacuum.

So let’s kick this off with a FANTASTIC quote:

“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.” – Leo Tolstoy

5 Tools to Stay Motivated

1. Read or listen to people that motivate you.

Now we all have certain people that just get us going. They have a knack for raising the hair up on our necks or giving us goose bumps when they deliver a certain message.

This is what you need, kinda like a shot of motivational adrenaline first thing in the morning and right before bed. For optimal effectiveness you need to be consuming this information in 2 to 3 different ways. First you should read. Now we don’t mean a novel but at least 10 to 20 minutes a day.

Pick your favorite blog or better yet pick up a great book and read a chapter a day. Our suggestions are:

• The Motivation Manifesto by Brendon Burchard

• The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change (25th Anniversary Edition) by Stephen Covey

• Achieve Anything In Just One Year: Be Inspired Daily to Live Your Dreams and Accomplish Your Goals by Jason Harvey

These are just some that you can pick up on Amazon (pretty darn cheap if you do an eBook). The best part is if you do an eBook you can read it just about anywhere and you don’t have to worry about forgetting your book!

Then there is audio/video. Now this is up to you but we go back and forth on these. We LOVE video because it really helps you feel more connected with the person delivering the message. What we like to do is listen to a podcast on the way to work in the morning. Then when you are at home in the evening you can watch a video. Our suggestions for Podcasts and videos are:

Brendon Burchard

Tony Robbins

Joyce Meyer

Dave Ramsey

John C Maxwell

Simon Sinek

These podcasts and videos last anywhere between 5 or so minutes to around an hour. We usually just pick and choose what we have time for. After a while though, you will make time to watch and listen to the ones that make the biggest difference.

2. Seek out peers in similar roles.

The reason for doing this is to connect with others and see what does or doesn’t help motivate them. The more we are connected with people that strive for better the more we will strive for better.

So where do we find these peers? Work can be a great place to start. If you can get others around you involved in sharing what is either broken with their motivation or what is helping them, then everyone can grow.

Remember that at work that fun sucking boss is probably affecting many others than just you. So here are some other suggestions other than just your workplace:

Facebook Groups

LinkedIn Groups

Online Forums (search Google for forums in your industry)

Use these to get started. Once you get your toes wet the world of connecting with others opens up pretty rapidly. Connect with these groups AT LEAST once per day. The purpose is to keep the motivation wheel moving.

In the beginning we do this by learning new tools, tips and techniques. We keep it going by helping others. So keep those relationships open and fresh!

3. Read scripture, for people of faith.

We LOVE reading scripture and applying it to our daily lives. Our faith is what guides us daily. So we like to share this one because of the massive impact it has on us each and every day.

Same as listed in number one, you can consume this in 2 to 3 different ways. To find scripture there are MANY different websites you can find that share it by subject or you can just pick up your bible. (Digital ones are available too!)

What we are going to do is list a couple of verses that DIRECTLY apply to this subject and the songs/videos that go along with them.

There is a Christian radio station that is called KLOVE. They have something they call the “30 day challenge”. They say if you listen to Christian music for 30 days your attitude, perspective and overall motivation will improve dramatically.

K LOVE radio station

Colossians 3:23 – “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” Here is a video of the song that applies: Stephen Curtis Chapman-Do everything. (Search on YouTube)

Ephesian 6:7 – “With good will render service, as to the Lord, and not to men,” Here is a video of the song that applies: Unspoken-Start a fire.

So apply this 30 day challenge as part of motivation mastery to help achieve your goal!

4. Become Centered

Becoming centered is a term that is highly over used and very misunderstood. It is something that most people relate to relaxing. Relaxing is just a side effect of becoming centered. When you attempt to become centered what you are really trying to do is connect with your inner self and the thoughts that you choose. When you choose the right thoughts and center ALL your attention on those thoughts, it gives you an extremely high level of clarity.

I read something Tony Robbins once wrote about why people over eat, or why people are alcoholics. He said that people use these “vehicles” as a transportation method to escape their crazy, chaotic day. We all have experienced this unbearable stress level, and honestly most of us experience it daily. He says that the escape actually helps us relax. With alcohol it’s the chemical effect that does it. With over eating, all the blood rushes to our stomachs which causes us to relax.

Well instead of growing larger and larger or drinking yourself to death, re-center yourself. Concentrate on what makes you happy and what your purpose is. (we will get to your “purpose” in the next point) When you are relaxed and centered you become more focused on your purpose. When you are focused on your purpose you have better clarity of your goals.

See how all this all ties in together? It’s like playing dominoes with your thoughts towards becoming more positive. One will eventually lead to the next and so on.

When your focus is on your goals, the fun sucker boss is nowhere in your sites, only your purpose is. In the end our goals and our purpose is what keeps us motivated.

Becoming centered can be done in MANY different ways but here a few that you can choose from to get you started.

Now you only need to start off with around 5 to 10 minutes of this a day and ultimately you should build up to around 20 minutes per day to achieve the full effectiveness.

Listen to relaxing music, without words: Pandora has a station called “Calm Meditation Radio” (I’m actually listening to it right now as I write..hey, it helps me focus!) Brendon Burchard has a great video on meditation as well.

Prayer: This is something that I do during focusing on my thoughts. It helps me connect with my creator and brings me closer to my purpose. Here is an excerpt from The World Community for Christian Meditation’s website on meditation:

“Sit down. Sit still with your back straight. Close your eyes lightly. Then interiorly, silently begin to recite a single word – a prayer word. We recommend the ancient Christian prayer-word “Maranatha”. Say it as four equal syllables. Breathe normally and give your full attention to the word as you say it, silently, gently, faithfully and above all – simply.”

Sit/lay still with your eyes closed. You can use this hyper-easy method just about anywhere! Go someplace quiet and get as comfortable as possible. You could go in your car on your lunch break or you could go to a room that is empty in your office. The idea is to go somewhere you can have peace and quiet for at least 5 minutes.

5. Make a list of your purpose.

Simon Sinek wrote a fantastic book called “Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action”.

Starting with why means to find your purpose and to connect with it. The best way to do this is NOT to ask yourself what you are doing but rather why you are doing it. This can be extremely powerful in achieving and maintaining ultimate motivation.

As people we are never motivated to do something because we are told to. We are motivated to do something because we FEEL it. Have you ever said to yourself “I’m doing this because I have a gut feeling about it, it just feels right.”? That’s because we are all driven to do something by our feelings. We need to connect with those feelings to help keep us motivated.

So list out your purpose. Remind yourself of your whys. Don’t fool yourself by saying your purpose is money. Money is a side effect of achieving your greater purpose. We all need money, but that is NEVER the purpose or the why that helps maintain motivation.

Here are some examples:

I need to be successful

I need to make a better life for my family

I need to help my team achieve THEIR goals

I need to help my team love their work

I need to help my team grow into great leaders

These are just some simple yet powerful examples.

Notice how we used the word “need”? That is a powerful word. If we used the word “want” it lacks the power to complete it. Want is like a New Year’s Resolution, which over 85% of people fail at achieving by January 15th, it lacks the strength of commitment.

We always do the things we need first, and then if we have the time and energy we get to the things we want. So remember your purpose and make a strong list of your NEEDS so you have a good reason to be and stay motivated.

Let’s recap… The 5 tools you are going to commit to use for the next 30 days are:
1. Read or listen to people that motivate you.
2. Seek out peers in similar roles.
3. Read scripture, for people of faith.
4. Become centered with yourself and your thoughts.
5. Make a list of your purpose. (your “why”)

With these tools equipped and maybe a little stretching for that high kick (safety first), you can stay motivated even when your boss is a fun sucker.

The Power of Love

All of us – young or old, poor or rich, salt of the earth or intellectual, battling grave illness or enjoying phenomenal health – all of us want the same things in our lives. We must take care of our survival needs by providing shelter from the elements, food and sustenance for our bodies, and protection from dangers. Because we are social in nature, we need to connect with others in various ways. We need to belong, to be part of something larger than ourselves. Most of all we need love, and the more there is in our lives to enjoy, the better off we are in all ways.

In a very real sense, love is what powers the universe. Love is behind the benevolence of the creator(s) in our stories about where we came from. Love is the one uplifting force that empowers us and allows our consciousness to grow. Our culture recognizes and honors the power of love in thousands of ways, each with endless permutations:

Nothing stands in the way of a mother’s love for her children
Spiritual love is the highest power of all
Because of love, I am made whole
Love me, love my . . . (parrot, car, crooked smile, kids, etc.)
Love makes the world go round
Can’t buy me love
I’m a fool in love
The Music of Love

Where would Etta James, the Beatles or nearly every country western singer be without love to sing about? The lack of same, the loss, the regaining, the denial, the requited and the unrequited. Indeed, where would music itself be without love? It is love, after all, that stirs the heart to passion and the voice to sing. The Do-Re-Mi of love is equally qualified to express our sweetest feelings to our children as it is to let our mates know in no uncertain terms just how deeply felt our biological imperatives are on Saturday night after the kids have gone to bed. Love is such a complex and ubiquitous subject that our civilization, just as all the thousands before us and the millions more yet to come, our thoughts and feelings are filled with the artifacts of our discussions, songs and images about its various manifestations.

Love is.

And yet, love is not, also. In fact, love, so freely and unselfconsciously given and received through all our connections, is the one thing we often lack for ourselves at our core level of being. We often do not love ourselves. How amazing!

The Dance of Love

A lack of self-love is first felt in very similar ways to that ballroom dance class you were forced into as a teenager in which you pretended to actually enjoy a kind of rhythmic spasm that could loosely pass for dancing. The shaky feet, the sweaty palms, the cracking voice. When it comes to self-love, there you are, quivering with your partner on the dance floor, ready to accept death as a suitable alternative to the foxtrot or the waltz.

Despite your best intentions, your two left feet probably goofed you up socially for years, if not forever. You’ve compensated by finding other ways to appease and delight your dance partners. You’ve proven to each of them that they are indeed the objects of your affections and worthy of your most undying love. Just so, you’ve never really come to grips with what it takes to feel your own love of self.

The most glaring way a lack of self-love shows up in someone’s life is in the failure of one’s intentions to manifest in desired ways.

Nothing seems to work. Despite all the books and CDs on self-improvement, all the workshops, all the inner work, all the best intentions – your life is still not where you want it to be. Maybe your job really bites. Perhaps your relations have become stagnant and uninspiring. Maybe you’re just tired of the day-to-day routine that you’ve grown accustomed to over the past twenty years or so.

Where Are You?

Your best intentions seem to have proven to in fact be your most mediocre ones. What happened?

The answer is incredibly simple after all. It’s been staring you in the face like the one that looks back at you every morning in the mirror. The answer is you!

You need to fall in love with yourself! You need to quit shaking and sweating, forget about your quivering voice and your two left feet and begin to glide and swoop like your life depended upon it. Because it does. Your life – at least the one you’ve dreamed about – depends upon your spirit soaring to every greater and greater heights, something it cannot do if you cannot love yourself.

The Feathers of Intention

Intentions are the feathers that allow you to catch life’s thermals. Love buoys them up and makes them defy the earth as they waft ever higher and higher on the currents of your life. Trying to set an intention loose upon even the most gentle breezes, let alone the mighty gales of your at times tumultuous life, without the mastery and awareness that self-love brings, is simply an exercise in futility. Without self-love, your intentions won’t fly. They remain undirected and unmoving, stuck to earth like so much fluff plastered to a rock in a rainstorm.

Fluff yourself up. Dry yourself out. Become as light and airy as the most ethereal down you can imagine. Prepare for takeoff. You are ready to launch your beautiful intentions into the glorious great beyond. You’re cleared for take-off. Have a good flight.

Still here? Ah, yes. There’s that issue of self-love. Let’s take a moment to recap.

What do we know for sure?

We know that love empowers the entire world
We know that self-love empowers us personally
We know that intentions need empowerment to manifest
Self-love Empowers Your Intentions

We must quickly come to the conclusion that given that the above statements are true, the most surefire way (actually, the only way) for us to manifest our intentions is to tune into our love. If, however, our love is only a one-way affair, if we can only effectively give love to others but not to ourselves, no matter how hard we try, we’ll never be able to empower our intentions enough to create the vision we have for our life.

I’ll say it again, because it bears repeating at this point:

The most glaring way a lack of self-love shows up in someone’s life is in the failure of one’s intentions to manifest in desired ways.

We all know how to visualize. We’ve been to all those workshops and read all those books, right? Some of us have accumulated many, many hours meditating and visualizing and praying and intending and sincerely trying to be worthy of having a good life.

It’s all about self-love.

It’s simple, really. Love yourself. Treat yourself at least as well as you would any other lover. Coddle it and cuddle it. Give yourself a big hug! Show your self that you care! Empower yourself and your intentions will start to float about as they were meant to. A beautiful, fluffy life is the life you’re really after, and you can’t get that kind of life being harsh with yourself. Lighten up! Let the feathers of your intentions land where they may.

Whenever I have a situation, a problem, or need inspiration or peace the answer is meditation. No matter what you may need, meditation is the way to tap into our Inner Being, our Higher Self. The answer is within.

We know more than we give ourselves credit for. We use a small percentage of our brain. Much of the time our mind can go round like a hamster on its wheel. In meditation we can tap into the vast storage system of our brain as well as the wisdom of the Universe when we quiet our mind in meditation

16 years ago I went to a meditation class in the hopes of getting rid of the migraines I had suffered with since I was 5 years old. Maybe I even had them before that and don’t remember. This began a life-long daily practice. Once in a while I fall off the wagon but I’ve found the peace I was longing for, the end of migraines, inspiration and the answer to whatever I need to know in the practice of meditation.

Meditation is an ancient practice used in many cultures. I’ve read numerous books on the subject, and I haven’t scratched the surface of all that has been written. It is probably easiest to take a class just to get started, but it isn’t necessary. You can begin on your own by simply sitting quietly and listening. What am I listening for? I call it God. You can call it whatever you wish. It’s not so easy to turn off your mind. It takes practice and persistence, but it is worth the time and effort. The reward can be amazing and even astounding.

Here are a few optional suggestions to get you started on your path to peace and enlightenment:

To set the mood, light a special candle. I have a few special scents I enjoy.
Put a CD of soft gentle meditative music on your sound system.
Begin with 5 minutes. You can work up to 20 minutes or longer as it becomes more comfortable for you. Set a timer if you’re concerned about missing an appointment.
Read a page from an inspirational book to take your mind off the concerns of the day.
Sit upright in a comfortable chair with your hands on your lap, your palms open and upward to receive your guidance and your feet on the floor.
Remove your shoes if possible so that nothing is between you and mother earth.
Try stabilizing yourself by imagining a grounding cord going from the base of your spine down to the core of the earth. Place a hook on the end of the cord and attach it to the earth’s core.
Put your attention on your breath. Follow your breath. Don’t think about anything except being open and receptive. Release your thoughts and allow them to pass and bring yourself back to center.
Don’t allow yourself to become discouraged if your mind wanders from time to time. It’s completely normal.

It is my practice to meditate before I pray. The rewards are many from lowering blood pressure, to calming nerves and bringing inspiration. Don’t put stress on yourself if you think you’re not doing it right. There is no right or wrong. Enjoy the process of learning to meditate.

Meditation music is music performed to aid in the practice of meditation. It can have a specific religious content, but also more recently has been associated with modern composers who use meditation techniques in their process of composition, or who compose such music with no particular religious group as a focus.

Caregiving can be like being in the service–you’re working more for the good of others than for yourself, you’re working under the direction of others, and your own needs are not often considered. It’s a tough job, as anyone who’s been a caregiver will tell you.

It’s also a gob many people are dong. It’s estimated eighty percent of the care provided in America is performed by unpaid caregivers. 120,000,000 adults are or have been caregivers for adults. As our population ages, this trend will continue. Many of those caregivers provide twenty hours of care a week, in addition to their employment.

What now? If you’ve never been a caregiver before, you might not feel prepared. The thought of taking care of another adult, often one of your parents, can be daunting. The goal here is to make it less overwhelming, if not easier. Here are basic things to consider to keep you from crumpling under the weight of your responsibilities.

What’s the hardest thing for caregivers to understand? They have to take care of themselves too. Ideally, caregivers would take care of themselves first, but that isn’t how we are, is it? We always see something our loved one needs or wants, and turn ourselves inside out trying to make it so., we want our loved ones to be safe, well, comfortable and happy, and if they aren’t, we believe we’ve failed.

It just isn’t so!

The most important thing you, as a caregiver, can do for your loved one is to be there for them. That doesn’t mean you must be there all the time, or every day. It doesn’t mean you have to provide all their care yourself. It doesn’t meant you shouldn’t have a break, and it certainly doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take care of yourself.

Caregivers not taking care of themselves is a huge problem for both them, their loved ones, and our country as a whole. This country depends on unpaid family and friends to care for loved ones who need help. As I’ve said before, it’s a tough job.

Somebody has to do it. There aren’t now, and never will be enough professional caregivers, nurses, nursing assistants, home health aides, to care for everyone who needs help. The shortage of these workers is a looming crisis. The trend is for professional caregivers to care only for the most frail among us, and that trend will continue. Family caregivers are critically important!

Family caregivers are in danger! Caregiving can be exhausting mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. You can’t care well for others if you fail to take care of yourself. Burnout happens when a caregiver’s reserves are depleted, and they ‘just can’t do it anymore.’ Physical and mental health is at risk, and the caregiver could quickly become someone needing care.

Are you convinced you need to take care of yourself? I know there aren’t enough hours in the day for all you have to do. I know there might not be any extra money lying around. I know someone always need something, right now, or sooner, if possible.

If you can’t put yourself first, at least commit to putting yourself on the list. You know what you need to do, but sometimes we need a gentle reminder of how to be good to ourselves. Our emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual needs intertwine, so many of these ideas relieve more than one problem.

Your know what you need for good health, but you might not know how to squeeze it in. You’re busy, have little time for yourself, and when you get a minute, you just want to collapse! “How can I fit taking care of myself in–I barely have time to breathe?”

Don’t think of ‘taking care of myself’ as a separate task on your ‘to do’ list. Work it into the rest of your life. here are some ideas:

Take a multivitamin daily. It’s a little insurance policy in a pill, for when your diet isn’t well balanced.

Keep water in the fridge so it’s cold and refreshing. Try to drink between one and two liters every day. Adequate fluid intake is critical for our bodies to work effectively, and most of us don’t get enough. Caffeinated beverages don’t count. They can actually cause you to lose more fluid than you take in.

Find an activity you enjoy, and do it! Like to dance? Turn on your favorite music and dance while you clean the kitchen. Put that dusty exercise equipment in front of the TV and walk or ride while you watch.

Can you exercise with your loved one? Play an active game together, or just rock in rocking chairs while you chat, every little bit helps!

Stay positive!

Enjoy the time you spend with your loved one Everyone loves to laugh, share funny stories, jokes, or watch a comedy together,

Create a ‘give blues the boot’ book – a three-ring binder with plastic sleeves holds your collection of jokes, anecdotes, quotes, and stories that tickle or inspire you. Glue them to construction paper, and decorate with stickers or drawing. Slip your creations into the plastic sleeves to preserve them.

How about adding some words of encouragement to yourself? What would you say to a friend in the same situation? You deserve encouragement too!

Add some pages dedicated to happy memories, favorite people, places you’ve visited, or want to see. Sprinkle your book with uplifting quotations, passages of scripture, and inspirational messages Refer to your book whenever you need a dose of joy.

Reminisce! Ask your loved one about everyone’s favorite topic – themselves be the recorder of their stories. Label family pictures and ask them to tell you about them. Help your loved one assemble their stores and pictures into scrapbooks.

Remember to take time off. Do something you enjoy every day. If you can’t remember what you like to do, you need to rediscover your personal passions. Look for moments of joy and beauty. Music can change your mood for the better. Find something calming that matches your present mood, and gradually change to something happier and more upbeat.

Keep a gratitude journal. It will help you notice the small pockets of beauty in even the most discouraging day.

Refresh your spirit. Pray, meditate, think deep thoughts. Reconnect with the important things in life.

Don’t let your brain turn to mush. Read, almost anything. work puzzles, word searches, or number puzzles. Follow the news, there’s still a world out there. Connect with friends, and/or a support group, either in person or online. No one can get through life under their own steam.

You must have enough good quality rest to be able to function well as a caregiver. Without rest, it’s easy to become short, angry, and unreasonable. If you can’t sleep straight through the night, nap when you can. Pay someone to relieve you fo responsibilities so you can sleep, or take advantage of adult daycare or respite care. Use any time other family members offer to help to take a rest break instead of running errands.

Insomnia is a common disease which causes sleeplessness and can be found in case of kids as well as adults and aged people. There are various factors which can lead to insomnia. In medical terms, the lack of melatonin is the main reason for sleeplessness. Also, depression, stress, tension or deficiency of important nutrients like iron or magnesium can cause insomnia. Women have the highest tendency to suffer from this disease during the period of their menopause. The above mentioned causes are not the only reasons causing insomnia. Diseases such as diabetes, lung and heart disease may also cause insomnia. So, it is better to contact a doctor before implementing any of the ways to cure it.

The person suffering from insomnia has to take good care of his health. Avoid consuming heavy meals or sweets before bed. Also try not to have any kind of simulating beverages like tea or coffee or any kind of alcohol. The dinner should be taken well before going to bed, this way enough time is given so that the food is digested and it doesn’t cause any sleeping problems. Some of the common things and daily habits such as sleeping in bright light, reading or working while in bed need to be strictly avoided. The time of sleep also has to be fixed.

There are various drugs available in the market which can cure insomnia but they have lot of side-effects in which the primary is liver damage and the cure is also temporary. Instead there are natural ways to treat insomnia. Some of these can be done at home with no or little supervision and some need professionals.

On a regular basis, drinking a glass of warm milk before bed is one of the best ways to prevent insomnia. Also, 2 spoons of honey with milk work wonders. Another way is to roast a pinch of cinnamon till it turns black and then boil it with water. Drinking this an hour before bed also helps a lot. But this cure is not recommended for regular basis as too much cinnamon is not good for health. Also, massaging mustard oil on hands and feet is an ancient method for curing sleeplessness. Putting lavender sachet or flowers near your pillow and applying lavender oil to the forehead also helps a lot. Listening to lullabies or soft music relaxes the mind and helps to sleep. Acupressure and acupuncture too can cure insomnia but they require professionals.

Also, mental exercises such as meditation help relax the mind from tension and stress which helps to have a good sleep. Breathing exercises or ‘Pranayams’ also are found to do miracles. Morning exercises are also very important. Jogging and yoga are the best ways to remain healthy and prevent any diseases. Recent study shows that ‘Yoga’, the ancient Indian exercises have the highest potential to not only prevent but also cure almost all the diseases known to man. The most important point to keep in mind is not to worry if you are unable to sleep. Don’t add to the worries which already don’t let you sleep.

Do you suffer from temporomandibular joint pain? You are not alone. Many suffer from this ailment which is known as TMJ syndrome. It often occurs when the temporomandibular joint is damaged, misaligned, or even injured in an accident. It can cause pain in the jaw which restricts chewing and can cause popping and clicking, ear pain, and headaches in its sufferers. While there are no quick fixes to fixing the issue and often times the permanent solution is jaw surgery, there are some ways you can keep your symptoms from getting worse. Here are the top 5 ways you can manage your symptoms.

1. Manage your overall stress levels

The symptoms from this jaw ailment is often times made worse by stress. The tension caused by stress leads to tighter muscles in the shoulders, neck, and up to the jaw. This tension minimizes the range of motion allowed and begins to create painful problems. Those suffering from TMJ tend to have stressful lives and require relaxation techniques to minimize the effects this stress has on their body and mind. Meditation practices, yoga, exercise, and other relaxing past times must be incorporated into their lives to help them manage stress.

2. Get a lot of rest

Along with relaxation techniques to soothe some of the stress from everyday life, making sure to have healthy sleep patterns can do wonders as well. Getting enough rest can help you reset after a hard day, prepares you for the next day, helps you regulate all the hormones in your body, and allows for more resistance to stress in the first place. Healthy sleep habits are formed by having a sustainable and repeatable routine. Most people tend to wind down after dinner by listening to music or reading prior to bed.

3. Use a mouth guard at night

Using a mouth guard at night can help alleviate the pain associated with teeth grinding. Many who are suffering from the symptoms of TMJ allows unknowingly grind their teeth together at night. Grinding your teeth will cause tension to build up in the jaw muscles and lead to tooth pain along with the grinding down of tooth enamel. Often people have dreams where their teeth are falling out or they can sense physical pain it is usually due to the friction of teeth grinding. Once diagnosed, wearing a mouth guard can fix this issue.

4. Use home remedies

There are some home remedies available to sufferers of TMJ. Ice packs and over the counter anti-inflammatories can lead to relief. Gentle massages of the back, shoulders, and even jaw can help stimulate circulation leading to relief. Avoiding overly chewy foods or candies such as gums and fruit snacks that put extra strain on the jaw muscles is advised.

5. Try alternative therapies

There are many alternative therapies such as botox, acupuncture, and osteopathic remedies that have helped sufferers manage their symptoms and pain. Many have had favorable experiences with new and alternative methods, so do not rule them out.

Overall, dealing with the effects of TMJ does not have to feel hopeless. Use these 5 times to keep your symptoms from worsening.

My good friend Christine recently mentioned she had an extra ticket to a gospel choir concert here in Buenos Aires. Would I like to join her?

I jumped at the chance to have a fun night out with her AND get my blast of hallelujahs. Besides, I wanted to see what an Argentine gospel concert crowd is like.

We went. We grinned at each other when the crowd burst into exuberant applause after every single raise-the-roof solo performance by a choir member. We clapped until our hands were swollen. We whooped with unbridled joy.

And then we watched with jubilation as the choir was encouraged– some might say coerced–by a stomping, chanting, on-their-feet crowd to offer not one, not five, but EIGHT encore performances following the initial bowing and exiting.

O Happy Day!

It was a cross between a revival and a futbol game. There’s a certain chant that sports fans do here–a wordless, lilting open-mouthed melody. Everyone was doing it while standing and clapping with arms raised high.

The crowd looked like any symphony audience in Portland or Seattle–mostly upper middle class but with plenty of students and a variety of nationalities. We found it fascinating that the place was absolutely packed for this relatively unknown gospel choir of African Americans singing traditional spirituals and “Porgy and Bess” selections–all in English, of course.

But despite the cultural and language barriers, this choir rocked the house, moved that crowd, and made everyone feel glad to be alive and blessed to be there together.

O Happy Day!

Just reading the titles of the songs in the program was a soul-stirring experience. You don’t need much English to understand the meaning of:

** “He’s Blessing Me”

** “O Happy Day”

** “Bridge Over Troubled Water”

** “Hold On”

** “There Is A Quiet Place”

** “Oh, Doctor Jesus”

** “Amazing Grace”

Now, I was raised Mormon and danced my way through a variety of spiritual perspectives right on through Buddhism. If I had to pick a religion t-shirt to wear for all the world to see, I guess it would be the one with the Buddha on it. But on the night of the concert, it was Jesus all the way.

O Happy Day!

Music fills our souls, and it doesn’t really matter what the brand might be. The Buddhist monks chanting? Very cool. The gospel singers? Awesome. I have been in temples and shrines and cathedrals around the world, and there’s something profoundly inspiring about the religious music that fills them–no matter what label it happens to be wearing.

The more open we are to what we hear and experience, the more likely we are to tap (or is it clap?) into the joy it stirs in us. Paying attention to the ways we can access our soul–or true nature, or whatever you want to call it–frees us to discover new sources of inspiration.

Whether it’s gospel, classical, blues, or hip-hop, play with the possibilities and surprise yourself by finding something inspiring about a musical form you’ve barely heard before. Find what makes you want to clap–even if it’s not in your native language or tied to the church you attend on Sunday.

Look for ways to get those happy tears flowing, and you’ll be connected to what matters most.

O Happy Day!
